This collects the three issues of Amazing Spider-man in which Silk makes her debut and two mini-series of Silk's own. Silk's personality in the debut issues is all over the place. She is both hysteric and sexualized. Those issues are a bit unpleasant to read. However, when it gets to the mini-series, Silk has a more consistent personality and her motivations are clear. The mini-series are a lot of fun to read. If you can get just the mini-series collections, I would recommend those over this. However, if you have to get this and you aren't into the first few issues, keep going. It gets better after that.

This collection of stories is an excellent starting point for anyone wanting to know the origins of the character Silk.

What I liked -
Whilst Silk’s origin is a little far fetched (yes, even for comics) writer Dan Slott is able to craft a great new character. The opening issues of Amazing Spider-man are fun and offer some insight in to Silk’s powers and character but it isn’t until the Silk mini series collected here that she’s given her own agenda and depth.
The solo stories are not ground breaking but do offer some fun scenarios and a good mix of action and drama. Silk’s plight is interesting and seeing her struggle to understand her powers/ new life make for good reading.
How she’s treated as both Cindy and Silk by Jameson is a fun dynamic when contrasted against his relationship with Peter/ Spidey.

What I disliked -
During the mid 00s Marvel were putting out a lot of titles seemingly with the ethos ‘throw it all at the wall and see what sticks’ and unfortunately Silk was one of these titles. The fact there’s 2 #01s in here show Marvel’s resistance to commit to more than a few issues. Part of the problem is that once the story gets going it’s dragged in to an event (often a problem with Marvel) and when it returns the story mostly picks up where it left off so the break in numbering just seems pointless. Another issue is the art. As always art is (and should be) subjective but the lack of consistency here hurts the overall quality.

Favourite panel/ moment -
Despite some good action scenes throughout the way Jameson is drawn with a softer and more caring side was a refreshing change.

Cindy Moon aka Silk is my favourite Spider-Person. This collection is a good introduction for people who don't know her.
The change of the creative team after the first two chapters was a welcoming one as I'm not a fan of Humberto Ramos's visual style and I do like Stacey Lee's better. I also think that Robbie Thompson made the character way more interesting to me than Slott did.

What I like about Silk/Cindy Moon is that she is way more ambiguous than Peter Parker, Gwen Stacey or even Miles Morales. Reading this was a good reminder why I liked the series back then and I'm excited for the new Silk run (TPB to come out mid May)!

I really enjoyed Silk's character, and the journey she takes in these volumes. Her interactions with Black Cat were such a fun read, and I love Cindy Moon as a character. Peter and Cindy's relationship, however, is odd. I would have much preferred them to just be friends or lead up towards being lovers, because the forced attraction between them from page one, is uncomfortable.

I love this series so far and look forward to reading Cindy's journey. I really enjoyed undercover Cindy and reading about her struggle with figuring out her emotions over her family's disappearance.

I only take out a star because the Peter and Cindy relationship doesn't sit well for me. It could have been done in so many ways where their romantic relationship wasn't forced and based off of pheromones.

We get a collection of the origin and early adventures of Silk...the Spider-Bride (dig deeper into Spider-Verse stories to get an answer as to what THAT is)

Tying her into the Spider-Verse pantheon comes with its own set of challenges. Luckily, we jump into her 1st limited series and find her getting used to freedom after a decade locked away.

The one thing that continually gets to me is that the art seems inconsistent. One issue she looks Caucasian and the next she's Asian American. At least her stature is portrayed consistently.

Bonus: same spider, different abilities...Silk shoots organic webs...Spider-Man has webshooters.

As someone completely unfamiliar with Cindy Moon/Silk, this was an excellent introduction of her origins, powers and motivations. I enjoyed this enough to want to read more.
I especially enjoyed that family was such a big motivation for everything that Cindy does, but I feel like this intro still left a ton open ended about why she ended up in the bunker and stayed there for so long. Hopefully that is a mystery that will continue to unfurl as Cindy keeps searching out her parents.

I actually enjoyed the beginning of the Silk series much more then I expected, and I already had good feelings about it. Cindy Moon is a pretty great character, and Stacey Lee's art was amazing. Excited to keep reading the series.
Also was nice to see a genuinely nice J. Jonah Jameson who was concerned about Cindy.

Started because Silk has a great visual look. Quickly collapses into ‘Spider’ tropes (working with J Jonah Jameson, perils of family, managing neighborhood villains). Excellent work with Black Cat (who is more interesting than Silk herself).

I'm... Conflicted on this? I actually don't really like Marvel comics (more accurately, when they just sort of drop you into the middle of a story and expect you to know what's going on). It was alright I guess
