The book talked about an artist who didn't realize that he was feeling incomplete because of one of his incomplete art where he left his soul. Every artist portrays his soul through his artwork. So how could Rajiv be able to come up with a new art to come up with a new art when his soul wasn't with him?
I loved how the author described the character. The language was simple yet impactful. I could feel like I was watching a short film or video beacuse the author has perfectly described each and everything so when I read it felt like it's was happening right infront of my eyes.
Loved the way Majuli was described that I instantly put it on my go to places list ( obviously after the situation gets better).
I felt that the end of the book was incomplete and didn't feel satisfied with it. Hope it had a different end.

They stayed there for a week trying everything from scratch and improvising his painting skill. Even after a lot of effort and painting he is not able to complete any painting he starts.

'Sofia on the Balcony' is the second flash read book of Himanshu Goel, which I read. The protagonist of the story is a man named Rajiv Arora, who is an extraordinary painter. His mindblowing, unique paintings made him a renowned painter in world. After his renowned work 'Soul on the mountain' he faces a havoc in creating any artwork. One fine day, he is asked to be again under the mentorship of his teacher, like the way he used to be when he was just a budding artist. The story is about how the protagonist resolves the issue that he faced with the support of his teacher.
Though it's a short story, it conveys a lot of messages. The role of mentors or teachers in our life is beautifully portrayed. Though we grow up and acquire more knowledge than our teachers, they never cease to amaze us when we face a hurdle in our personal or professional life. We again turns to be a child and eagerly learn from them during such situations. There are some problems in our life which we don't count actually when it hurdles our success. But having someone with us who help us figure out that issue and keep us focused in our passion field is a blessing. This book is a very less time consuming read. Beginner friendly language is used and great message conveyed. I recommend this feel-good book to people who enjoy reading short books.

Stanzin took him along to Majuli, a beautiful river island in Assam to help him come out of his depressed mood and so he could create a masterpiece. Even after a lot of effort and painting he is not able to complete any painting he starts.

The story revolves around why this is happening to Rajiv, and whether he will be able to come over his issues or remain in this slump for the entire life.
I must say that everyone deserves someone like Stanzin in their life, who was not only Rajiv’s mentor/teacher but also the guide who helped him when he needed it the most.
Its completely unbelievable how in just 26 pages, the author managed to give us full fledged story that had everything, starting from Hurt, Anger, Romance, Fun, Tragedy, Joy, Sadness, Excitement and Adventure.
Though extremely short in length, this book had everything that we look in for a good read, so I'm going to give this book FIVE BALCONY STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A nice, quick read which teaches us that one’s creativity can never be lost and that the reason’s behind a blocked mind run deeper than what it may appear to the blind eye.
What I liked about the book: —> Stanzin’s eccentric character. —> Effectively conveys the message that emotional trauma and personal tragedies don’t just leave behind grief, they affect our minds on a deep level as well. —> Tells is that our creativity and artistic talent can be healing and a great outlet to overcome grief. —> The imagery and narration of Majuli. I’m so tempted to visit this place after reading about it in this book.
What I did not like about the book: —> I wanted to know a little bit more about Stanzin and even the bonding between Rajiv and Stanzin, like what was the teacher-student camaraderie before Rajiv became a famous artist, how did she teach him all he knew about art, etc —> I wish there were more characters than just Rajiv, Stanzin and Sanju. Maybe other students than Sanju who were under Stanzin’s training. —> What happened to Sanju?
Quotable quotes: —> The room was a mess of paint splashes, brushes and torn canvases, the absurd combination formed a painting of its own kind on the floor. —> There was a simplistic beauty to Majuli. The grass was the greenest of greens and the sky was the bluest of blues. —> Not everything you do has to be perfect. Don’t stop, let it be a bad painting, let it be an imperfect work of art. —> Rajiv was feeling better, Sanju and Stanzin were good company. He was used to being amongst elite art circles but it was refreshing to be in the company of the people who loved painting for painting’s sake. —> The mind of an artist controls logic, it teaches him how to hold the brush, how to mix the paint, but nothing more.” She explained. “The heart controls the emotions, it teaches him how to feel, how to make others feel by his work. But most important is the soul. The soul is the reason we exist, the source of life. The soul of the artist gives life to any art. It is what transforms a simple piece of paper into a living breathing creation.

Review
I have read many stories written by the author and In his every writing the poeple or characters have the story that is about how they successfully fights from there dark days to emerge as a new person to go in the path of the light.
A teacher is one who act as a light when student get surounded with darkness and in this book the author beautifully captured this line in his story.
Language of the book is lucid and smooth which can be read by anyone and it is a short read book can be read in just an hour so guys give it a read without thinking twice.
Rajiv Arora was no ordinary painter. He created his first piece of art when he was just in college at the age of twenty. In just 15 years, he had built an enviable reputation the world with his breathtaking paintings. His last painting “Soul of the Mountain” was sold for a whopping 2 Crore Rupees in an auction. There was just one problem, he was not able to paint anymore. Follow his journey to the river island of Majuli in Assam as he rediscovers himself in this flash read by Himanshu Goel.
🖍A flash read of 17 pages and an aesthetically pleasing cover of the book. As the blurb says it’s quite clear how the plot of the story actually is. I love Goel’s collection because they are written with stories based on true life events mostly and stories of common people and their journey in just a few hundred words- the author is extremely capable of expressing the depth of the plot. Also I’m loving this illustrations done with the cover.
🖍Sofia On The Balcony is a Fiction pick. It’s a story about how a teachers play a significant role in life. Goel literally handpicks his genres and plots to write his story just like a reader, like us, who pick our genres of books to read. It’s authentic.
🖍A teacher’s role in a student’s life is clearly shown in this story as the teacher helps the student to overcome his dark days where he is surrounded by darkness. The struggle of an artist to paint and how the teacher helps in overcoming the hurdles of life.

“The only time I feel alive is when I'm painting.” - Vincent Willem Van Gogh
Rajiv Arora, was a brilliant painter. When he was in the college, he created his first piece of art and in just 15 years, he was known in the world for his breathtaking paintings. One of his last painting “Soul of the Mountain" was sold for a 2 Crore Rupees in an auction. But something happened to him which affected him so deep that his paintbrush was unable to create the magic and he no longer was able to paint. Frustrated with his condition, he had left his family, friends and his hometown and rented a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere in hope of creating his next masterpiece but still he was unable to paint. But then, Stanzin, the women who taught him everything he knew about painting knock his door and entered his life as a "Ray of light in darkness". His journey to river island "Majuli" in Assam with Stanzin, will make him realize why he was unable to paint and how his last unfinished painting affected him. Was the girl in his last unfinished painting reason behind everything?
Overall, I really liked the story. The characters are well-developed. The storyline is simple and interesting. Everything was beautifully protrayed by the author. The peaceful environment of the river island "Majuli", in Assam was highlighted beautifully. The language used is simple and lucid. This book is a kind of short read(26 pages), which will take less than an hour. Highly recommend.
🎨"The only time I feel alive is when I'm painting".. - Gogh ... ... 🎨Sofia on the balcony by Himanshu Goel ... 🎨Genre : fiction ... 🎨Edition : kindle ... It is the story of an artist who paints his soul and mesmerises the world with his beautiful splash of colours. " Rajiv ", who thinks that a desolated room can be the best place to create a masterpiece and he himself books a villa to get a perfect outcome. Despite many trials he felt so frustrated by not getting the desired art frame. It simply puts his mind down to try further. And all of a sudden an unexpected visitor turns to his place in the villa, and Rajiv finds out the visitor as his childhood teacher, who taught him painting. His teacher took him to a mysterious island located in Assam and it totally changes Rajiv. If one feels that it's the place, which motivates an artist to draw, then it is totally judgemental. As the story proceeds, I couldn't find the word 'Sofia', which was mentioned in the title. The story unfolds many truths about the reality which was being like a hindering block to paint. The story reveals the mystery behind the title and also how it could be relatable to Rajiv. It is a short story which can be finished hardly in 15 minutes. The reason why I picked up this book is, it's catchy title as well as it's pleasantly designed book cover. ... ... It's free on Amazon kindle by the way.
🖌The book revolves around the protagonist,Rajiv Arora who was no ordinary painter. With his breathtaking paintings,he has already made his way into the world of renowned painters. His last painting “Soul of the Mountain” was was an amalgamation of natural aptitude and beauty. . 🖌The story shifts to a different state of the protagonist, two years later. The two-year interval portrayed a change, and one can see the painter sitting frustratingly, who could not even paint a single piece of art. The colours went distinguishly blemished and the reason is unknown.Torn sheets and splashes of colours everywhere witnessed the failures of a defeated painter. . 🖌I've read many stories of the author and he had created a remarkable mark in the bar of expectations, but this book didn't reach that. Although the plot was well-knitted, I felt that the end points were kept loose. The rainbow in the book cover demarcates the colours in the life of a painter. The combination of colours in the book cover is well-decided,but the sky colour could have been dark shaded, which in turn would have highlighted the dark phase of the protagonist. The title is apt and one could never predict the plot by the mere sight of it. This is a short read of about 25 pages. Grab the book to know more.
BOOK NAME: Sofia on the balcony AUTHOR: Himanshu Goel GENRE: Fiction(FLASH READ) FORMAT: Kindle
🌸The only time I feel alive is when I'm painting. - Vincent Van Gogh
🌸For an artist, his art is his food and soul. And if that ability is taken away from him, there would be no possible life left in him. Dealing with repeated failures after you have achieved something is more difficult than initial struggle. You lose yourself and your art. And it can only be rekindled if you rediscover yourself.
🌸Rajiv was no ordinary painter. Creating his first piece of art at the age of 20, he had achieved a milestone. His last painting was sold for a huge amount of two crores. But, call it fate or failure, he was not able to paint anymore despite several attempts. To know how he meets himself and his long lost art again, go for this flash read.
🌸The narration is quick, perfect and to the point. In the beginning, I was of the opinion that the beginning would give away all about the climax. But, it turned out to be the other way.
🌸The characters though minimal, are of crucial importance to the plot. The author has wonderfully highlighted about the importance of a mentor in your life.
🌸The cover and title though relatable, wouldn't give an idea about the plot.
🌸I would recommend it for those who want a quick read.
Book: Sofia on the Balcony Written by: Himanshu Goel Format: Amazon Kindle Length: 26 pages Rating: 4.5/5 Review: Himanshu Goel’s short book “Sofia on the Balcony” depicts the struggle of a renowned artist Rajiv Arora. He is a successful painter. When he was in college, he created his first painting. Now 15 years have passed and he has gained immense popularity with some breathtaking piece of art. His last painting ‘Soul of the Mountain’ was sold for a whopping 2 crores rupees in an auction. He was leading a perfect life until one day something happened to him which mentally affected him and he wasn’t able to paint anymore. He became frustrated and left his family and friends and rented a farmhouse for a change only to re-invent himself. But that didn’t helped him too. Only then, Stanzin, the woman who taught him the basics of painting, re-entered his life and took him to river island Majuli in Assam. He will realize the reason why he was unable to paint. Will he re-discover himself? What is the reason of his last unfinished painting? Flash reads are always welcome, it kind of freshens up your mind after a hectic day. The characters are well developed and will make you feel relatable. Moreover, the description of Majuli by the author should be appreciated. The narration is well paced and the language used is simple and lucid. Highly recommended.
Another short flash read by the author. It is a story about a famous painter Rajiv Arora who was painting since his college days and was became a well known painter within a span of time. His last painting was sold at a cost of 2 crore rupees in an auction.
He then was trying to paint the next art of his but something was stopping him to paint. He was kind of stuck. He shifted to a remote farm house away from his family and friends to focus on the painting but still he was not able to do anything. He got a wound on his hands while painting which he didn't care and went off to sleep.
Next morning he woke up with a knock on the door. The person was his teacher, the lady who taught him painting. She commands him to come with her without asking any questions and soon they were in a place unknown to him. Here he finds the motivation and understood why he was not able to complete the painting. Here he found the peace and feel connected with surroundings that cleared his mind.
Many of us would also find ourselves in similar situation in life and got stuck. But we just have to clear the mind and help ourselves to find the peace and zeal to move on in life for a beautiful outcome. Readers will easily be able to connect the story of Rajiv and his situation and I think could feel motivated on some part.
The story revolves around Rajiv who happens to be a famous painter, but somehow has lost his inspiration to paint at all. And then he meets his art teacher, Stanzin, who helps him pave his path and find his way again.
A perfectly crafted flash read. This book teaches us so many meaningful life lessons. First of all it is okay to be lost and not know your way around. You can never be a know-it-all. There is no harm in asking, taking or getting help, it won't mean you are not capable enough, because sometimes you get help from the unexpected places.
I really loved, Rajiv and Stanzin's bonding, a perfect Teacher-student relationship because that is something one dreams of. A bond to cherish forever.
My favourite character was of course Stanzin, she was not only talented and witty but also soft hearted, who didn't hesitated to help and guide his student in the time of his need.
All in all i would definitely recommend this to everyone. Its definitely worth a read ❤️
"...not everything you do has to be perfect. Don’t stop, let it be a bad painting, let it be an imperfect work of art.”
Art for some is a passion, for others, a hobby. But what is common in all kinds of art is its therapeutic power, it's calming potential. Nonetheless, a creative slump or block is something that is experienced by all artists, invariably.
In this flash read by Himanshu Goel, Rajiv is a reputed artist but behind his glory of success dwells a profound internal conflict raised by an art block. The frustrated artist's mentor Stanzin stands by him and takes him to the river island of Majuli in Assam. As Stanzin like the perfect guide, tries to detect the impetus, Rajiv strives to recover from it through his emotionally charged journey and strives to rediscover himself.
Despite it's short length, this account perfectly brings out the essence of art and it's cathartic effect. like the different shades of paint that rests on Rajiv's pallete, his different emotions are strewn all over in the narrative in the form of words.
It took me around 20 minutes to flip through this account of about 26 pages and it was a charming read. This is a story that can be appealing to all, but if you are an artist (which all of us are in one way or another), pick it up for a relatable read.
Well I could relate to this one the most, I believe because I paint too. If the artist has some sentimental value attached to a thing and it gets ruined then it's pretty difficult for him to work on the same piece. Same thing happened with the protagonist. He is a world-famous painter and his last painting was sold for 2 Crore Rupees in an auction but it's been two years and he couldn't paint anything. He isolates himself thinking he might get the mental peace and some inspiration for his next painting but he failed. Unexpectedly his mentor, a lady with bizarre fashion sense but a heart full of positivity comes to meet her pupil. She takes him to an isolated island where she obsesses him and gets the reason that it's a painting he left incomplete. A painting of a woman overlooking the balcony of the hotel room to the view of the city. Did you find any resemblance? So basically this beautiful girl, Sofia, the subject of this painting was the reason why Rajiv wasn't able to concentrate anymore but his teacher gave him a beautiful lesson. I guess the timing of this book is amazing, tomorrow it's Teachers' Day in India and this book do have a great focus on the tutor and pupil's relationship.
