Sharing an old, broken down super-dreadnaught with a gangster and a homicidal AI was not what Engineer Sollander had planned for this week. That she is also sharing it with a serial killer only made it worse.
Little of humanity has survived the the Entio invasion. Huddled on the barren world of Russou they have lost most of their past. Only the AI’s remember, and they will only lie. Sollander leads a ragtag band to the hulk of the greatest warship ever built, the CSS Goliath. Perhaps there is an AI there that will talk to her. But something else awaits in the cold, dark passages. Something altogether unwelcoming. The Goliath has not done with war.
I grew up in Africa, with a background in Cultural Anthropology and archaeology. Along with a side of police. My main focus is on creating a rich, diverse universe. Endings are not always good - because that's just life, isn't it? But there might always be a hint of redemption in there somewhere. I admit to being no good at social media. I wouldn't know what to put into a blog, and I don't presume anyone wants to hear my opinion on anything. So I don't tend to be very active either here or other platforms. Hopefully my writing stands for itself. I understand that not everything is for everyone, but do hope people find something worthwhile in what I create. Quality is important, as I think a writer should respect the time their readers have invested in reading their work. So I do make every effort to ensure my work is of the highest standard. I do apologise for the odd typo. Oh, I'm a Brit, so I pronounce aluminium as aluminium, and not aluminium. Sadly, I don't earn a lot from writing (that would be amazing, but unlikely!) so I must work full time. Because of this I don't write as much as I would like. Thank you for visiting, and hope you find your time here worthwhile.
I'm convinced JJ Abrams wrote this. Unreliable characters, mysteries upon mysteries, and more questions asked than answered. The first third of the book is very confusing. There's clearly a lot of history that is important to the story, but it isn't explained until the middle of the novel. It makes it very difficult to get into the novel and understand what is going on and why. Each character has their own motivation to get onto the Goliath, but there's no character that you really want to root for. Each has their own flaws and none of them are particularly likeable. Sollander is probably the best simply because she isn't a "bad guy", but st the same time she has no personality. Once inside the ship, I definitely got Event Horizon vibes, but in the end Event Horizon was much better. There were a ton of mysteries and questions here, but more often than not, they didn't get resolved. There was a ton of potential but it never followed through. The final twist was interesting but ultimately made no sense. I think the secret would have been discovered or figured out sooner. Overall it was a decent book but I think it could have been a lot better
Just finished reading Goliath after my father recommenced it. I loved it. Original, a superb plot and excellent characters with a twist that blew my mind. One of the best sci-fi novels i have read with one of the most memorable characters in Enderby. It would make an amazing film. This is a book I will read again, always a sign of a great story I think.
Nice book, easy read. A good plot that keeps you guessing until the end.
The only let down is the amount of grammatical mistakes in this book. someone (anyone!) should proof-read it, the amount of errors were quite annoying, particularly late on in the book
Started off one way then changed and changed again. The ending was not even close to what I expected. There was vengeance but not completely, or was it?
