সুবর্ণ বসুর জন্ম ৯ আগস্ট, ১৯৮৪, উত্তর কলকাতার শ্যামবাজারে। গভর্নমেন্ট স্পনসর্ড মাল্টিপারপাস স্কুল ফর বয়েজ টাকী হাউস থেকে মাধ্যমিক এবং হেয়ার স্কুল থেকে উচ্চ মাধ্যমিক পাশ করেছেন। বিদ্যাসাগর কলেজ থেকে প্রাণীবিদ্যায় স্নাতক, কলকাতা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রেসিডেন্সি কলেজ থেকে স্নাতকোত্তর। কেরিয়ার ম্যাগাজ়িনে সাংবাদিকতা দিয়ে কর্মজীবন শুরু, বর্তমানে ‘আনন্দমেলা’ পত্রিকার সম্পাদকীয় বিভাগের সঙ্গে যুক্ত। প্রথম গল্প ‘টেলিফোনিক’, প্রকাশিত হয়েছিল ‘উনিশ কুড়ি’ পত্রিকায়। ‘উনিশ কুড়ি’ পত্রিকায় প্রকাশিত গোয়েন্দা অনমিত্রর রহস্যকাহিনি সিরিজ় পাঠকমহলে বিশেষ জনপ্রিয়। লিখেছেন বহু ছোটদের গল্পও। তাঁর ধর্ম, পুরাণ এবং দেবদেবী বিষয়ক বহু নিবন্ধও বিভিন্ন পত্র-পত্রিকায় নিয়মিত প্রকাশিত এবং সমাদৃত।

এই গল্প বিতস্তার, যে লড়ে চলেছে একটি খারাপ প্রেম সম্পর্কের সাথে।
এই গল্প ঋতদেবের যে নিজের বুদ্ধির জোরে একের পর এক ব্যবসার বুদ্ধি বের করে চলেছে।
এই গল্প অনুপ্রিয়ার দারিদ্রের সাথে মোকাবিলা করার গল্প, অন্তর্মুখী ভানুপ্রিয়ার গুটিয়ে থাকা স্বভাব থেকে বেরিয়ে এসে নিজের পায়ে দাঁড়ানোর গল্প।
এই গল্প অতিরিক্ত উচ্চাকাঙ্ক্ষী ও কটুভাষী স্ত্রীর বিরুদ্ধে শুকদেবের রুখের দাঁড়ানোর গল্প।
আর সবার গল্প জুড়ে ঘুরেফিরে আসেন এক বইপাগলা মানুষ। ঠাকুমার ঝুলির মত বইয়ের ঝুলি নিয়ে তিনি ফিরে ফিরে আসেন প্রত্যেকটি মন খারাপ করা মানুষের কাছে। জিজ্ঞেস করেন, "ভাই, আপনি গল্পের বই পড়েন?"

এই প্রজন্মের ছেলে মেয়েদের জীবন, তাঁদের সুখ দুঃখ, এসব নিয়ে একটি প্রাণবন্ত উপন্যাস "ছায়াপ্রহর"। কাহিনীতে সকলের জীবনেই সমস্যা রয়েছে। কিন্তু তারপরেও উপন্যাসটি পড়তে পড়তে একটি অদ্ভুত ইতিবাচক আলো দেখতে পাচ্ছিলাম। আর সেই ইতিবাচক আলোই আমায় টেনে নিয়ে গেছে সারাক্ষণ। তবে হ্যাঁ, বন্ধুবাবুর চরিত্রটিকে আরেকটু কাছ থেকে দেখার ইচ্ছে ছিল, যেটা পুরণ হল না।

যদি কখনও বই হিসেবে এটা পান, অথবা আপনার কাছে ১৪২৭ সালের আনন্দবাজার থাকে, তবে অবশ্যই এটা পড়তে হবে।

"তোমার ছায়ায় শুধু দুরত্ব, কষ্ট, আক্ষেপ আর একা থাকা, ছায়াপ্রহর। ......আমাদের সেই ফেলে আসা দিন ফিরিয়ে দাও, ফিরিয়ে দাও চিলেকোঠার দুপুর, আকাশে পাক খাওয়া চিল আর ঘুঘুর ডাক...ফিরিয়ে দাও পুরনো বইয়ের গন্ধ, ভিজে আকাশ আর কাগজের নৌকো............

উপন্যাসটি শুরু হয় নিউ টাউন এর এক বহুতল বিশিষ্ট ফ্ল্যাট বাড়ির স্কাইওয়াকে একটি মেয়ের আত্মহত্যা করা দৃশ্য দিয়ে।।
এরপর শুরু হয় পূর্ব-কথন অর্থাৎ সেই দৃশ্যে উপস্থিত প্রত্যেকটি চরিত্র এবং তাদের পার্শ্ব চরিত্ররা কিভাবে কেনো এই ঘটনার সাথে জড়িত সেটাই উপন্যাসের বিষয়বস্তু।।
সোমদেব বাবু ও বিনতি দেবীর দুই পুত্র শুকদেব ও ঋতকে নিয়ে একটা সুন্দর সংসার।।
ঋতদেব যে বুদ্ধির জোরে সমাজ এর তথাকথিত উপায়ে চাকুরিবৃত্তি না করে নিজে থেকে চেষ্টা করছে বিভিন্ন রকম ভেঞ্চার করার এবং সে সফল।।
শুকদেব, শান্ত শিষ্ট পড়ুয়া প্রকৃতির ছেলেটি এখন বিবাহিত সুমনার সাথে, সুমনা প্রচণ্ড উচ্চাকাঙ্খী এবং বদরাগী।।
বিতস্তা ও সৌরাশিস একটা টক্সিক সম্পর্কের মধ্যে আটকে আছে।। সৌরাশিস ড্রাগ অ্যাডিক্ট, বদমেজাজী এবং কটুভাষী।।
অনুপ্রিয়া আর ভানুপ্রিয়া দুই বোন, অত্যন্ত কষ্টের মধ্যে দিয়ে তাদের জীবন চলছে।। ভানুপ্রিয়া অন্তর্মুখী কিন্তু রান্না করে দারুন।। অনুপ্রিয়া প্রায় একার হাতে সংসারের জোয়াল টানছে।।
আর এই প্রত্যেকটি চরিত্র আর তাদের জীবন যাপনের মধ্যে অদ্ভুত রকম ভাবে জড়িয়েছেন এক বইপাগল মানুষ, তার ধারণা বই পড়ার মাধ্যমেই জীবনের সব দুঃখ কষ্ট সমস্যার সমাধান সম্ভব, তাই তিনি পথ চলতি মানুষকে নিজের ব্যাগ থেকে বার করে গল্পের বই দেন পড়তে এবং পড়া হয়ে গেলে ফেরত নেন।।
শুকদেব কি পারবে সুমনার সঙ্গে মানিয়ে নিতে? ঋত কি সফল হবে নিজের নতুন ভেঞ্চারে? অনুপ্রিয়া কি প্রায় একার কাঁধে টানতে পারবে সংসারের জোয়াল? বিতস্তা কি বেরোতে পারবে বোঝা হয়ে যাওয়া সম্পর্কটা থেকে? অনেকগুলো প্রশ্ন, উত্তরগুলোর জন্যে একবার নাহয় পড়েই দেখলেন উপন্যাসটা, আশা করি নিরাশ হবেন না।।

পাঠ প্রতিক্রিয়া -
সুবর্ন বসু এর লেখা এই নিয়ে দ্বিতীয় উপন্যাস পড়লাম।। তার লেখার একটা বড় গুণ হলো উপস্থাপনা।। সাধারণ প্লটের উপন্যাসও লেখকের উপস্থাপনায় হয়ে ওঠে উচ্চ মানের।।
উপন্যাসটি আমাদের প্রজন্মের ছেলে মেয়েদের জীবন, তাদের সম্পর্কগত সমস্যা এবং সমাধান এই নিয়েই লিখেছেন।। ছায়াপ্রহর শব্দটির অর্থ আলো ও অন্ধকারের মাঝামাঝি একটি সময়, এই সময় এর মধ্যে দিয়ে আমরা প্রত্যেকেই সময় কাটিয়েছি, সেই সময়ে মানুষদের সিদ্ধান্ত হীনতার কথা লিখেছেন লেখক, বুঝিয়েছেন কোনো সময়ই চিরকাল স্থায়ী হয়না, সমস্ত অন্ধকারের পর আলো ঠিকই আসে সেটা শুধু সময়ের অপেক্ষা।। সেই আলোর সন্ধান করতে করতেই এই উপন্যাস কখন যে শেষ হয়ে যাবে পাঠক বুঝতে পারবেন না।।
শেষে লেখকের লেখনীর মধ্যে অদ্ভুত এক মাদকতা আছে, যা বারবার ফিরিয়ে নিয়ে আসবে বাধ্য করবে পরের উপন্যাস পড়তে।। সুবর্ন বাবু আপনার কলম দীর্ঘজীবী হোক।।

সুবর্ণ বসু, লেখকের প্রথম কোনো লেখা পড়লাম। পড়ে মনে হলো উনি শীর্ষেন্দু মুখোপাধ্যায়ের থেকে অনুপ্রাণিত। লেখকের লেখায় শীর্ষেন্দু বাবুর ছায়া দেখতে পেলাম।
প্রথমে বলি ভালো দিকগুলো। উপন্যাসে একাধিক চরিত্র এবং প্রত্যেকটা চরিত্রকে খুব ভালো ভাবে গঠন করেছেন এবং কোন চরিত্রের সাথে বৈমাত্রেয় সুলভ আচরণ করেননি। মুখ্য চরিত্র বলে কিছু নেই প্রত্যেক চরিত্র সমান গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। এখনকার সমাজে সম্পর্কের টানাপোড়েন, সংসারে ভাঙ্গন, প্রচলিত ধ্যান ধারনা উপেক্ষা করে মেয়েদের এগিয়ে চলা এগুলো লেখকের লেখায় ফুটে উঠেছে। কিছু কিছু জায়গায় লেখকের হাস্যরসের উপর দখলেরও পরিচয় পাওয়া যায়।
এবার বলি সমস্যার কথা। প্রথমেই বলতে হয় বই পাগোল চরিত্রের সাথে লেখক সুবিচার করেননি। চরিত্রের থেকে একটু বেশি আশা করেছিলাম। লেখক হাস্যরসের পরিচয় দিলেও সেটা যৎসামান্য।
একটা ছোটো ভুল শুধরে দেব, গেট দিয়ে MBA করা যায়না।

মুখবন্ধ (Prologue)
The narrator begins by explaining that they have a story in mind but are stuck on its ending, which is described as terrible and shocking. They decide to present this ending first. The scene is a skywalk on a newly constructed "G+30" (30-story) building in New Town. A young man has gone up to see the skywalk after meeting with the promoter, Chiranjib Babu. As dusk approaches, he enjoys the cool, windy atmosphere.
He is startled to see a young woman standing precariously on the railing, seemingly preparing to jump. She has used a pile of cement bags as a makeshift staircase to get onto the railing. Her disheveled appearance and tear-streaked face convince the man she is about to commit suicide. He recognizes her but gets her name wrong, calling her "Iravati". She curtly corrects him and asks to be left alone. As he cautiously approaches, intending to pull her down, she gets startled, loses her balance, and falls. The narrator stops the scene there, calling it the "prologue" and deciding to restart the story from a different point.

Chapter 1
This chapter introduces a quirky, elderly man, sarcastically nicknamed "বইপাগলা" (book-crazy). Anupriya, a hardworking young woman from a poor family. She supports her family by teaching karate and tutoring the grandson of a formidable local figure,
Mukunda Babu. Mukunda Babu is gruff and sharp-tongued but secretly has a soft spot for Anupriya, whom he helps indirectly by arranging a scholarship and increasing her salary when his grandson's grades improve. Anupriya is disliked by many in the neighborhood because of her self-reliance and the favor she finds with the influential Mukunda Babu. The chapter foreshadows a major incident related to her older sister
Bhanupriya's wedding.

Bitasta, a university student who is experiencing a period of deep melancholy, which she privately calls "ছায়াপ্রহর" (The Shadow Hour). Her relationship with her boyfriend,
Sourashis, is on the rocks. The conflict began when Bitasta casually compared one of their professors to Severus Snape from Harry Potter. This triggered an intensely negative reaction from Sourashis, who revealed his deep-seated insecurity about not reading English books or watching English films. He forbade Bitasta from engaging with English media, showing a controlling and aggressive side that left her shocked and distressed.

Bitasta confides in Somdev Babu, an elderly gentleman she met during her morning walks at Tala Jhil Park. She goes to the park at the insistence of Sourashis, who feels she needs to be "more trim". Somdev Babu, who jokingly refers to Sourashis as the "bad boy," listens to her story. He sarcastically praises Sourashis for his "traditional values" before advising Bitasta to break up with him. Bitasta, however, still loves Sourashis and considers getting him professional counseling.

This chapter details Somdev Babu's family, focusing on his elder son, Shukdev. Sumana, the daughter of Somdev Babu's childhood friend, Amaresh Palit. Somdev Babu had initial reservations about Sumana, finding her "over-commanding," but his wife, Binati Devi, insisted on the match.

Amaresh Babu cleverly had Shukdev sign the bank documents during the marriage registration without him realizing it.

Sujoy Prasad, a Group D municipal staff member, who falls for Bhanupriya after seeing her near his local club. His father, Vijay Prasad, approaches Bhanupriya's father,
Nabotosh, with a marriage proposal. However, the proposal comes with a demand for dowry: forty thousand rupees for a piece of land and a scooter. This puts Bhanupriya's financially struggling family in a difficult position.

This puts Bitasta in a state of severe mental conflict, as it goes against her deeply held traditional values.

This chapter provides a detailed account of Rito's mugging and Anupriya's heroic intervention. After she saves him, she takes him to her modest home for first aid. The "book-crazy" man is formally introduced as Bandhubrata Bhattacharya. He visits Rito's tutorial seeking a tutor for his grand-nephew (a lead Rito passes to Anupriya) and suggests Rito add a library for his students. Later, he finds a dejected Shukdev at a bus stop, lends him a book, and strikes up a friendship. The chapter ends with Bandhubrata witnessing Sourashis behaving strangely on the phone before publicly taking drugs.

Bhanupriya and Sujoy Prasad's relationship develops as he continues his gentle, apologetic pursuit of her for appearing drunk at the wedding. Meanwhile, following the family meeting, Shukdev tells Rito to cancel their appointment with the lawyer. He then goes to a bar, determined to take matters into his own hands.

Shukdev returns home late, pretending to be heavily intoxicated. He creates a dramatic scene, verbally berating Sumana, offering her all the assets she brought into the marriage (the car, FD, jewelry), and demanding a divorce. The entire family is stunned by his uncharacteristic outburst. This act of rebellion completely changes the power dynamic in their relationship.

Bitasta, having decided to give in to Sourashis's demands, agrees to go to his friend's vacant flat. The narrative flashes back, revealing that Shatakshi had tried to warn her about Sourashis's connection to a sinister political figure named
Biru-da, who is also the uncle of his friend Patal. Bitasta, believing Sourashis has changed, has been ignoring Shatakshi and even blocked her number.

Chapter 30
The story comes full circle to the prologue. Rito is the young man on the skywalk, sent there by his father to inspect a potential flat. Bitasta is the young woman on the railing. She had gone to the flat with Sourashis, only to discover his ultimate betrayal: he had brought her there as a sexual offering to Biru-da in exchange for political advancement. Biru-da, disgusted by Sourashis's pimping and lack of subtlety, threw him out and let a traumatized Bitasta go. Overcome with shame and horror, Bitasta went to the skywalk to end her life.
Rito manages to save her just as she falls. Later, in a coffee shop, she confesses the entire story to him.
Epilogue
Sourashis: Disappears completely after being thrown out of the university.
Shukdev and Sumana: Reconcile after his dramatic act. Sumana apologizes to the entire family for her behavior. They are now expecting their first child, and Somdev Babu has abandoned his plan to move out.
Bhanupriya and Sujoy Prasad: They get together.
Adhiraj and Anupriya: Their relationship is progressing, with Adhiraj finally managing to confess his feelings.
Bitasta and Rito: Unable to face the shame and the thought of starting a new relationship after her trauma, Bitasta moves to Pune to continue her studies, cutting off contact with everyone in Kolkata. Rito is left with a sense of profound loss and a missed connection, haunted by the memory of the girl he saved but couldn't get to know. The story ends on a bittersweet and melancholic note.

অসাধারণ একটি সামাজিক উপন্যাস। ❤️

অনেকদিন পর একটা feel good প্রেমের উপন্যাস পড়লাম, যাকে আবার অনেকে সামাজিক উপন্যাস বলে।
এই গল্পে প্রচুর চরিত্র আছে, তাদের লেখক ধীরে ধীরে পরিচয় করিয়েছেন। শুরুতে বেশ একটা চমক আছে, যা শেষ শীর্ষেন্দু বাবুর উপন্যাসে পেতাম। আবার শেষ অবধি দেখা গেছে সবাই আসতে আসতে পরস্পরের সাথে জড়িয়ে পড়েছে। দজ্জাল বৌমা ভালো হয়ে গেছে, ক্ষমতাশালী রাজনীতিক সুযোগ পেয়েও বেচারীকে ছেড়ে দিয়েছে। এসবের মধ্যেও গল্পের গতি কোথাও শ্লথ হয়নি। এই গল্পে সে অর্থে তেমন নায়ক কেউ নেই। দশের দশকের যুবক যুবতীদের নিয়ে মন ভালো করা একটি গল্প। মন ভালো করার জন্য একবার পড়েই ফেলতে পারেন গল্প টা।
তবে এই গল্পের চরিত্রদের মধ্যে বইপাগল চরিত্রটি আলাদা ভাবে উল্লেখযোগ্য। যিনি বইকে আবার ভাইরাল করতে চান, চান দিকে দিকে মানুষের হাতে বই ঘুরুক। এই চরিত্রটি আবার পরে ফিরে আসলে খুশি হব।
