When you turn 65, our federal government doesn't really give you a whole lot of resources to navigate Medicare. You just get sent a super-long "Medicare and You" booklet that's about as clear as mud.
But this book helps break down this gargantuan program into digestible easy pieces, while helping you avoid mistakes that can cost you penalties for the rest of your retired life. Don't bother trying to read the complicated government handbook; try this one instead!
This book is the most in-depth book about Medicare I have ever read. For Medicare being such a confusing, complex program, it's amazing how this book is able to untangle the web in way that makes Medicare understandable. I have now been saved from potentially making several mistakes of which I know I would have made had I not read this book before enrolling.
Perhaps the most helpful book I’ve ever read. Read it before you turn 65. Wish I’d come across it a few months sooner. Would have saved me some anguish and anxiety.
Just when I thought I understood the program I’d turn the page and there would be a new twist! Medicare is complicated and decision making is tough because we don’t know what our health will be in the future but I’m glad there are resources like this book. It was a great overview and loaded with references for further research.
Just finished reading the book “10 COSTLY MEDICARE MISTAKES YOU CAN’T AFFORD TO MAKE” by DANIELLE KUNKLE ROBERTS. Many people are often overwhelmed by Medicare information and fearful of making big mistakes. There are too many parts, too many choices. This book will help to prevent them and keep your money where it belongs. With practical tips and real-life examples of what not to do, Danielle will help you steer clear of devastating mistakes that can affect you forever. In this book, you will discover: * How to simplify your Medicare journey down to just five key decisions. * How to sidestep 10 expensive mistakes that could otherwise cost thousands. * How to choose coverage that provides exactly what you expect it to, with no surprises. I was expecting this book to be very boring but was pleasantly surprised. The author makes everything so clear and understandable. There is much to shock and dismay about this government program but it is much better to feel that way than to be totally uneducated and not realize how much money you can just be flushing down the toilet without having any idea that you are doing so and how your decisions could actually ruin your life forever!
I found this introductory book to Medicare to be very informative, thorough and most importantly not boring. Reading about Medicare may not be the most exciting topic, but Roberts does make it interesting in that she writes in layperson’s terms and gives lots of examples. I appreciated her examples about people who did make Medicare mistakes and how it affected them, and how the readers of her book can be more cautious. I have approached the time when I needed to apply for Medicare and her book helped make me more knowledgeable when I met with my licensed insurance agent to set up a Medicare Advantage plan and therefore helped me to ask good questions as well.
I highly recommend this book and I liked that the font of my edition was easy on the eyes. The book was broken into a different topic in each chapter and none of the chapters were too long. I was able to read a chapter or two at a time to give myself a chance to absorb the information I read.
As a former insurance agent and author, I highly recommend this book! Easy to read, easy to understand, this book will give the reader an accurate overview of Medicare and the differences between Medicare Advantage, medigap/Medicare suppliment. You will also understand what the different aspects of Part A, B, C, and D. As well as information on Tricare, group insurance. I am recommending this book to anyone new to Medicare or wants to understand Medicare and options for seniors. I am recommending this book to Insurance Agents! I highly recommend this book!
4.5 Stars. Definitely you need this book if you are going to turn 65 soon. But if you, or someone you know, is within a few years of getting Medicare, you should read this book NOW. There are some things you want to know well in advance for planning. You want to expose your poor brain to some of this early so it is not a shock later.
Engagingly written book that takes you through the twists and turns. For example, if you turn 65 while still working, then what you do about medicare varies drastically depending on whether you are employed by a company with 20 employees!
This book is excellent. The US health system is complex and costly - and becomes even more so as you approach retirement. Medicare appears bewildering to the initiated. Of the three books that I bought on Medicare - I found this one provided the clearest guide to the decisions that need to be made, when they need to be made - and provided the best overview of the how Medicare works, and the advantages and disadvantages of how to cover your healthcare costs in retirement. I learned a ton!
I had previously heard the book’s author speak a number of time on various retirement podcasts which led me to buy and read this book. I strongly recommend this book for anyone nearing Medicare eligibility age. It’s clear, very easy to read (I did it in about 3 afternoons), and extremely valuable in avoiding critical mistakes with Medicare enrollment and related decisions. It’s also one to highlight, bookmark and keep handy for future reference.
This book starts with the premise of Medicare comes with a cost and not just the premiums but the co-payments required. A well done beginning. The discussion on the 10 mistakes jumps in almost without a foundation on what Medicare is. Danielle Roberts does explain along the way the points of Medicare she discusses in each mistake. I am looking forward to reviewing a Medicare 101 seminar to fill in some of the gaps.
I now have a list of questions and some actions for my next trip to the Dr.
Sat down and read through in one sitting. Material is very well presented with logical flow and relevant examples. This book really assisted my understanding what I correctly needed based on my needs. Literally saved me from making 2 critical Mistakes . Very confident of my next steps. Thanks
"10 Costly Medicare Mistakes You Can't Afford to Make" is a huge jumpstart to a needed working knowledge of Medicare and how to make the right choices in signing up and maintaining an ongoing plan that works best for you. Approaching it from the angle of avoiding common mistakes is a great way to present the information in an interesting and relevant way. I would put this on the must-read list for people approaching their Medicare years.
The author of this book is a cofounder of a Medicare insurance broker so one should expect a heavy dose of promotion for that business.
The book itself covers a lot of main things that new Medicare beneficiaries should know. Some other books go deeper and could be read after this one.
The type is in a large font assuming new-to-Medicare enrollees can’t see standard-sized text. There were a few editing mistakes but not too drastic.
The book borders a bit on “click bait” with its title and the way the chapters are written.
Unlike some other books out there, this book is more recent and covers some changes for 2022. These books should include descriptions about how to stay up-to-date for 2023, 2024, etc.
Excellent and informative book that explains Medicare in an organized and easy to understand way. The author also includes numerous website addresses for addition information and ‘tools’ that are useful in figuring out what to choose. They also provide a free service to help individuals select the plan that best suits their situation. I HIGHLY recommend this book!
Read this for information, not for entertainment. Yes, there were multiple plugs for the author’s company, which sells Medigap and Advantage plans, but it always came across as helpful, not pushy. Medicare options can be confusing, but this book did a great job of laying things out in an easy to understand way. Very glad I read it. Would recommend.
This author really excelled in helping readers to navigate the confusing roadmaps of choosing a Medicare plan. I have read couple of books on this subject, this book is the best. Read it and you will truly understand how to avoid mistakes and optimize your choices and decision making. Good job!
If you are near the age of medicare benefits, this is important to read. If you think Medicare is simple, you will find it is sort of complicated. If you think it is complicated, this book makes it seem simple.
This book gives you an in-depth understanding of Medicare. It breaks down the differences of Supplements and Advantage Plans.....Great Book to read as you navigate thru the maze of making the right decision.
Very good information about Medicare and your options. Most importantly pitfalls to avoid. This is different than health insurance pre retirement. It takes a change in mindset.
Very helpful information that clears up a lot of confusion. Lots of suggested resources for further planning and learning. Wish I had read this before applying.
Lots of good information including all sorts of special situations that don't apply to me. Reinforces the authors videos and provides additional facts. I learned about Tricare for life and coordination of Medicare benefits with large and small employer health insurance.
I found this book easy to read with easy to understand examples and explanations. This covers all the necessities you need to understand. You will be glad you purchased this book.
Danielle has a good way of explaining a complex subject
I thought I knew some basics and found that there are subtleties and a lot to learn in general. This was a great explanation and I am sure that I am better prepared. Recommend for people approaching 65.
This book is thorough to the extent it gives in depth information to help avoid the mistakes. Great read for those becoming eligible for Medicare and those on Medicare.
Great advice...easy reading.. Excellent examples.. Will definitely share with my friends that are retiring soon.. Thank you very much for all this information
