“Prepare ye the way of the Lord,” the prophet Isaiah announces to us this Advent. These devotions by Reed Lessing for this sacred season show us ways to prepare for our coming King. Each devotion focuses on the history and meaning of a beloved hymn or carol sung in the Church in the weeks leading up to Christmas. The poetic and profound messages found in these tunes of old help us to recognize how we can best prepare for the Christ Child in our hearts today.
I have lost count of the number of Advent booklets I’ve read over the years; but this is one of my all time favorites!! Excellent use of the rich Advent hymns and carols, with interesting (and sometimes hilarious) insights and thought-provoking inspiration truly made an impact on my Christmas preparations and on my faith!! The devotions were brief (and left me begging for more — yeah, I finished several days ahead of schedule because I just want to consume it all); but their brevity make them useful for anyone’s busy schedule! Brief, yes; but powerful enough to shape my thoughts and reflections throughput the day!! I hive this devotional my highest recommendation!! ...and even though I’m gonna pass the booklet on to a good friend I plan to read it again myself!
