Lawyer and businessman, Roumoult Cranston is notorious for solving bizarre cases. For him, the scandalous murder of millionaire playboy Garner Moss by a rich ex-model holds no interest. But fate intervenes when Roumoult becomes a prime suspect and is drawn into the tantalising murder investigation.
Suddenly he’s in the spotlight, hassled by the media and scrutinized by NYPD detectives. To make matters worse, in his attempts to solve one murder, he uncovers two more bodies and moves to the top of the suspect list. Frustrated, he wonders if his situation could get any worse.
Disaster strikes when Roumoult traces a minor inconsistency in Moss’s life and unlocks a Pandora’s box. The murder investigation turns darker, throwing Roumoult and the NYPD detectives into a race against time.
The way I write and approach research has been shaped (bless me!) by many incredible people. These individuals can be grouped into three categories: researchers, authors, and mentors. They’ve created websites, shared their struggles through blogs, published their work, and, from these varied sources, I’ve learned so much. Their journeys have inspired me in countless ways, and now, I feel it’s my turn to pay it forward. 😊
About Me
Born and raised in India, I wrote whenever I could—even after becoming a doctor. Writing was my savior during tough times, though it always remained just a hobby. Later, I moved to Australia to further my research and complete a PhD in Biomedical Sciences.
People often say, “You change after completing your PhD.” I certainly have. Suddenly (don’t ask me why!), I feel a strong urge to write more books and share my stories with the world. I’ve also discovered a deep passion for helping others develop their research and creative skills—something that has become one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life.
When Cranston is caught in a storm and has to abandon his car and search for help, he never imagines that he'll be dragged into a multi-murder case where he becomes a suspect. H.G. Ahedi did such a great job with characters, pacing, and an overall great mystery story that I couldn't put it down until I found out how it was going to end. The author's knowledge of science shined through, and the plot twists kept the story moving along up until the very end. The writing style reminded me of classic noir mysteries like The Big Sleep and The Maltese Falcon, with Cranston being one of those main characters that has style, mystery, intellect, and a certain 'je ne sais quoi.' I highly recommend this book for a read that will keep you wanting more until the very end.
This was my first introduction to the Cranston series of mysteries and a delightful find! Roumoult Cranston made for a fascinating character, a lawyer who finds himself pulled into a murder case. There was no love interest in this novel; instead, we get a glimpse at Cranston's relationships with his father, grandfather, and loyal associates as he deals with a mystery of explosive proportions. I definitely want to read more of Cranston's adventures!
When a storm causes Roumoult's car to get stuck on a deserted mountain road, he has no choice but to ask for help at the first home he finds...but doing so throws him into the middle of a case lined with blood, murder, and much more. This mystery pulls you in from the start and doesn't let go until the detectives officially stamp "case closed" on the file. Clear your calendar because this one keeps you reading even when you promise yourself "just one more chapter".
A highly enjoyable and thrilling read that has so many shocking twist and turns to sink your teeth into! Very easy to read and visualize the mystery that was delightfully told. The MC is wonderfully written with a huge curiosity killed the car flaw! Would highly recommend this for anyone that enjoys suspense and mystery books!
A suspenseful mystery with the flavor of a classic detective mystery. With great attention to detail, her background in science helps build this great case. A fun read!
When he is caught in a murder plot, Cranston goes to work. A lawyer who can't stand a mystery, with the curiosity of a cat. Cranston is a main character unlike any I've read since Sherlock Holmes. I followed along with the clues he had but just couldn't find the answer. This, I find makes for a truly great detective novel!
You have certain expectations for a book that’s labeled an international mystery. H.G. Ahedi’s Calculated Murder checks all the mystery boxes and adds a huge dose of thriller to the mix. The story grabs you from the opening lines and holds you tight to the end, while you’re trying to figure out the answer to the mystery along the way. You can try, but it’s a conundrum that stays elusive until the final scenes.
Calculated Murder is the second in the three-book series featuring lawyer, businessman, and amateur sleuth, Roumoult Cranston. Even if you haven’t read the first in the series (and I hadn’t) you learn quickly that Cranston is notorious for solving tough, bizarre cases on his own and with the help of the local police. But Cranston follows his gut and doesn’t always share what he’s discovered with others, and that causes some confusion and concern among the local authorities. Sherlock Holmes had a bit of the same problem.
Ahedi’s plot is highly complex. The more Cranston discovers about the danger that’s going on behind the scenes, the more complicated the mystery becomes. Just when you (and Cranston) figure they might be about to discover the truth, we stumble over a plot twist. Cranston’s task is further compounded when he becomes one of the top suspects for murder. He has been manipulated by Garner Moss, but Moss is the first of four victims. Throw in a former model, a disgruntled wife, a crooked lawyer, and some frightening henchmen and you have to hang on to the plot with both hands.
I have to admit a lack of science background, so I didn’t fully understand the nuances of how the various devices of destruction actually worked, but Ahedi holds a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences, so it’s easy to accept her description of how the process works and how dangerous they are. So, even if you don’t grasp the science, you certainly feel the tension as it builds to a fever pitch.
I recommend Calculated Murder. You won’t be disappointed.
I was lucky to be the editor of 'Calculated Murder' by H. G. Ahedi. People who have read H. G. Ahedi's previous work will enjoy the opportunity to revisit their favorite characters in this thrilling new story. 'Calculated Murder' features clever foreshadowing and unpredictable plot twists that keep readers on their toes. The story's New York setting is richly realized, and character backstories are revealed in exciting new ways. Congratulations, H. G. Ahedi, on another great book.
After Haunted and Black Moon, this is the third book with the same characters.
The plot is superb, a bit less complicated than Haunted. The story was well developed, the world building was excellent and the mystery kept me on my toes till the end! No dull moments whatsoever.
There is no limit to the imagination of this author and Calculated murder is a must read.
Difficult to put this one down. That takes quite a lot of planning to put everything into place to acheive what this character did. The reader will enjoy spending time with this book.
Read this for kindle unlimited. Another good book from this author. Roumoult Cranston is always willing in wanting to solve anything. In this book, all he is wanting is to solve this certain mystery in particular. Cranston is someone who likes to look for adventure and figure something out first. I cannot wait to read more from this author. All wanting to know what happened to Garner Moss. I will not say much because I do not want to spoil anything. It was well done!
