A NOLA Tail Mystery #2

The Cat's Sure in the Rye

Rate this book
Bodies are piling up, and I’m in charge of figuring out why.

I can’t help it! There are innocent people being accused.

And don’t get me started on the heat and humidity in Beulah.

The thick cloud of death is only surpassed by the constant hot flashes induced by the weather.

I could keep going. I should actually.

After almost being killed by a history-obsessed realtor that wanted my inherited house for herself, I’m ready to get out of Dodge.

Unfortunately, this new situation is a bit more personal in nature.

A guy that disappeared a decade ago was discovered dead in this new case. Where has he been for the last ten years?

And one of my friends just happens to have the murder weapon. You can’t make these things up. Not even in the pages of a good mystery novel.

Speaking of books, my new book club is at the center of my thoughts as the judgmental kitty and I traverse this new mystery.

The members of the club are fan-girling over the town’s new resident, but the man is up to no good! I can feel it.

With all this craziness, it isn’t easy being a sleuth right now, but Chonks will help me navigate the twists and turns of this gritty mystery, as long as we’re home in time for his dinner.

That is a must.

THE CAT’S SURE IN THE RYE by B.K. Baxter
A NOLA TAIL MYSTERY Book #2
Chonks is a feline detective extraordinaire out late at night scouring the underbelly of Beuhla, Louisiana, in search of clues to any or newest mystery that is in need of solving. His partner in crime detection is his human roommate Jade, the towns’ assistant librarian. Quite literally, a body is dug up and Chonks has already had a nose on the trail. Chonks is a character that keeps Jade exasperated at times but she truly loves her furry rascal escape artist. Chonks, Jade and her best friend Doctor Charlotte Rains become Buelha’s Welcome Committee stopping by the old Mercer Plantation with a gift basket for Michelle St. Loraine to check things out. Lets just say Mayhem ensues where Chonks is involved. This is a laugh out loud book and a fun read by B. K. Baxter.

That was so much fun! Sir Chonksworth the Bold is rapidly becoming my new favorite feline sleuth. If it weren’t for him and his escape-artist tendencies, I’m not sure Jade would be the accomplished amateur detective she’s gaining the reputation as. This story has so many twists and turns. And even with Chonks’ help I wasn’t able to put the puzzle pieces together in the right order. I was sucked into the story and kept guessing all the way to the end. Making this one of my favorite kinds of mysteries: one I can’t outthink. I loved that the humidity is still characterized as a malevolent entity all its own, because I find that I can’t disagree with the author. I enjoyed this book so much. I can’t wait until it’s time to come back and do this again.

I purchased a copy of the Beulah, New Orleans cozy mystery The Cat's sure in the Rye: a Nola Tail mystery book 2 by B.K Baxer and this review was given freely.
Written in a highly descriptive, rambling newsy fashion with some humor this novel combines a mass murder with the retelling of all the town's gossip and scandals, a narrative of Chonks nightlife and constant search for food, the addition of a new women's shelter, and Jade's attraction to Ethan.

This series is getting more interesting with each book I read.

I would not have guessed the killer if you had given me a thousand years, although there was a massive clue at the beginning of the book. I wished the book had been longer, which is saying a lot. Usually I can’t wait to finish my cozy mysteries so I can find out who the killer was, but this time I was enjoying the story so much that it came to an end much too soon.

An entertaining and enjoyable read!

A great little mystery! I was totally surprised at the reveal of who the killer was! This story line kept me guessing until the end. And if course, Chonks is my favorite character! Cat mixed with detective. All the characters are interesting. This is an enjoyable series.

I truly enjoyed this book. Chonks is Jades feline partner. He is so intelligent and sneaky. Char’s brother the deputy really knows how to lay down the law. His sister is all for helping Jade. I wish Jade would tell Ethan how she felt. 5 ⭐️

Chunks saves the day

Chong’s is your very crazy cat who has ended up saving my life. This time my friend Tas has been arrested for murdering his father. I know in my heart he is innocent but proving it will be a devil of a task. Another great novel from B.K. Baxter.

This one was soooo good!! The story had so much suspense and balanced the investigation/attention to detail perfectly. Still will always want more chapters from chonks POV though!
