Claire Redding, a rising star within Police Scotland, is being fast tracked for greater things. Having played a key role in bringing down a major drugs gang in Glasgow, Claire is promoted to the position of Detective Inspector and transferred to ‘L’ Division in Dumbarton. She is tasked with solving a series of local burglaries which all have one thing in common; they appear to be perfect crimes. DI Redding firmly believes that there's no such thing as a perfect crime and is determined to catch the elusive thief and further enhance her career. The pressure builds on the ambitious young DI when the burglaries are linked to a murder and she is given the opportunity of a lifetime to make her mark! However, it soon becomes clear that the thief will not hesitate to kill anyone who gets in his way as the story races to a dramatic and violent ending.Perfect for fans of JD Kirk, Ian Rankin and Stuart MacBride.
In a day where police corruption is so apparent, this is a pretty topical subject to listen to. I enjoyed the quick thinking detective work, and attention to small details by DI Redding, which ended up proving that there is no such thing as a perfect crime, even when committed by someone who is used to finding any and all evidence that remains at a scene.
This was well written. action-packed, fast paced , twisted mystery of burglaries and then murder keeps the new detective Claire Redding on their toes. The criminal was a surprise. Grant Love has a wonderful Scottish accent.
I’ve always been a fan of mysteries/thrillers/detective type works. It’s fascinating looking into the mind of an author and seeing what they’re seeing in the story running through their heads!
This book is a short read. It almost felt like a prequel into what the rest of the series will be about. As I haven’t read any of the other books yet, I cannot confirm if I am correct, but I can say that it was a really interesting lead into the rest of the series.
I did appreciate that the DI (detective inspector) was a woman, and a smart one at that. Working her way up the ranks by solving a series of burglaries puts her on the path of investigating a murder! But will she be able to work on it until the end, since all the signs seem to point towards her burglar being connected to the murder, or will the killer finish her off before she’s able to close the case?
I recommend the read! Especially for anyone wanting to get their “feet wet” on a new series to fall into dealing with crime… and murder!
I only lasted a few chapters before drawing a line under this very poor attempt at a police procedure. Terminology and processes have taken a back seat. Talk of “manslaughter” cases and removal of possible murder victims by the ambulance service? For the information of the author: every homicide is a murder case. Only the courts can reduce it to culpable homicide, the Scottish term for manslaughter. The victim in any suspicious death would remain in situ until full forensic and pathological examinations have been carried out and then removed by undertakers to the mortuary.
This book deserves more praise than I’m able to give at present with the wrist of my dominant hand fractured and having to use my less-able left hand to write this review. I will give a huge shoutout for it, though, as I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This detective crime story is simply written without unnecessary fillers making it a quick entertaining read. I loved the way the characters were portrayed and the twists along the way, and see great potential in the development of the series. I’d certainly recommend it to others.
I loved the narration of Grant Love, who brings out the twists and keeps you listening

What I really liked about this listen is that it was a nice clean police procedural, yes the DI has some issues but in reality they were nothing. Sometimes you just need that, and so it felt good to listen. It was short but there was no waffle and it got to the point.
The narration really worked and looking forward to continuing the series.
If you are a reader who likes a story with lots of details about an investigation, then this is the book for you! It covers in-depth police procedure into a series of burglaries that ultimately involve murder. The MC is a strong female lead, DI Claire Redding, who is just flawed enough to be likable and realistic. The book is suitable for all age ranges.
I enjoyed the premise, and the twist was good, but it felt like some of the key parts of the story, and where the most action should have been, were rushed.
I listened to this on audible. I enjoyed the story and characters, the only small let down was the narration being slightly too fast for my liking, but I do personally like a Scottish accent for narration.
I read/ listen to a lot of crime books, so I figured out the criminal within the first part of the story. However this was a well written story and I highly enjoyed it. Love the Narrator's accent, he did a Great job with the various characters voices and the entire storyline.
