Nine enthralling short crime and mystery fiction stories from talented husband-and-wife duo Max Allan Collins and Barbara Collins. This entertaining collection ranges from a late-night craving which drives a pregnant private eye out to a convenience store and into a hostage situation to a womanizing senator who tries to replace his dead mistress with a lookalike and a cat with an accusing gaze. Each tale features the twist ending that fans will relish, while also being a little old-fashioned.
“Boasts a plot twist that Hitchcock or even Rod Serling fans will savor. Recommend this highly to all fans of mystery short fiction.” – Booklist

A good anthology of short mysteries, some of which feature cats. Very much like something from an old episode of Night Gallery, or maybe the 1980's version of the Alfred Hitchcock TV show. They're not exactly fair play, and there's the old fashioned twist at the end. When did that go out of fashion?
Some stories by Max Allan Collins, some by his wife Barbara Collins, one collaboration--and all fun to read!
Although these stories were written between 1992-2001, Murder-His & Hers is a timeless collection, a great distraction from these dark times once you start reading. The stories were engaging, the characters well-drawn, and the twisty endings made the pages fly.
I've been reading and reviewing Max's work for years but this is the first time I read anything from Barbara. Murder-His & Hers was a great introduction to her writing. A nice surprise!
I generally like stories where there's a murder to solve, but usually the story focuses on the person doing the solving, not the person doing the murder. I don't care for stories that get into the mind of the kind of person who would commit murder. Not all the stories in this book were like that, but enough that I really had to push myself to finish it. There were a couple, later in the book, that I did like, otherwise I was going to give the book no more than 2.5 stars.
A Fan of the Collins' Writing Style... While not every story was a diamond in the rough, they each had worthy elements and the punchy style of writing that I enjoy so much. A worthwhile read of a collection of short stories that all carry out the theme of 'Murder.' Well worth the read.
