Kennedy & Tristan: Moretti Crime Family Novel

Be careful what you wish for!

From the author, Frances Paul comes an electrifying standalone romance thriller that breaks all the rules! Kennedy & Tristan is a suspense that will have you holding your breath as you turn each page.

In a time of war even love can change sides.

A young Civil Engineer student travels to Italy to complete her studies at a prestigious university. Instead, she crosses paths with Tristan Moretti, a man whose business dealings dwell deep within the underworld—a world she never thought she'd be a part of.

But Tristan becomes a force Kennedy can't ignore. A man whose touch she can't get enough of. She knows it's dangerous. She knows falling for Tristan will lead to a lifetime of consequences. Still, she can't stay away.

Tristan has taken his father's place as head of the Moretti Family—a role he's been preparing for his whole life. He knows the kind of darkness that lurks within the shadows of his world, how it corrupts innocence, and ruins lives.
But once he realizes Kennedy is the only woman he'll ever want, nothing can stop him from having her. He's determined to rule with her at his side and vows to protect her no matter the cost.

As a lethal power slithers its way into their world and shakes the very foundation of the Moretti family, Tristan and Kennedy find themselves at the edge of survival where a decision must be made.

Do they stand together and fight…or will they be torn apart and fight each other?

Wow, what a mammoth book! Two books originally but now that it’s one means you don’t have to wait for the second part to be released. It is a long book and at times I felt the pace slowed right down because there were quite a few unnecessary bits and some repetitions. I enjoyed the story overall but found my interest flagged a bit because of this.

The lead characters, Tristan and Kennedy, did have good chemistry and were red hot passion wise, however, I did like Kennedy more than Tristan, perhaps the author’s intent, I am unsure. At times I wanted to slap Tristan soundly, he annoyed me with his poor decisions. I suggest this is a fantastic thing as it shows the author’s ability to engage the reader’s interest in her characters.

You definitely do experience quite a few different emotions with the characters but I often felt annoyed too, as I said. 😀 The descriptions of the various countries and places in the the story were really good and definitely made me want to go exploring.

The story had an abundance of drama and action where once again you felt gripped by the excitement or fear. It is definitely not a sweet, light romance, however, it still is primarily a romance and one that shows relationships can have great highs and awful lows.

Kennedy and Kiara aka Kiki were daughters of Marina and Robert Phillips. Marina was of German Descent and Robert was an African American. They moved to Panama City as Robert received a job as a Civil engineer. The Phillips moved from Boston in the 80's and at the time they were only dating. Their two girls were only a year apart and they loved each other dearly. They were raised as strict Catholics. Kennedy has not yet accepted a college yet because she had not received the college acceptance she wanted yet. They were a family who traveled to Europe and Asia and even to her father's country of Zambia. Kennedy was waiting on the acceptance to a college in Florence, Italy where she was going to study to become a civil engineer like her father. Let's talk about Tristan he is middle child and second son of Cosima and Agostino Moretti. Tristan had a older brother Amedeo and a younger sister Gianna. They were raised together with their cousin Fausto who's mother died when he was young, by their Aunt Rosario. The Moretti's were into going legitimate business owners. Tristan and his friend Luca who were basically in the same place as second sons decided to go into business partners and open up a chain of night clubs throughout Italy. The one in Florence Tristan named The Whiskey Bar, the one Venice Luca named the Underworld, and they both named the one in Genoa, the Plush. Amedeo was being groomed to take over the family business so he was CEO of Moretti Shipping. Tristan joined the family business in the Construction sector as a Board Member and VP of Operations also with his cousin Fausto as CEO. Amedeo has gotten them involved with the Portuguese Mafia. He had an affair with this women named Agata who was wife to one of his father's older friend the Benardinos and so he had played into the man's hands. He was trying to get back at his friend Agostino for something he felt he had done to him. Amedeo ends up getting killed and their an all out war with Tristan taking the reigns. Kennedy is approached by Tristan and after that they lost track of one another, but they both think about one another in the meantime. So when she goes to interview Fausto the CEO she is getting on the elevator leaving the floor and runs smack into Tristan. They start to see each other and the story goes from there. Kennedy Elise Phillips and Tristan Moretti, oh what a mafia love story this is. There is so much angst. Their is mystery and action and betrayal and lies but it is oh so good. I wanted to yell at both of them at one time or the other. I was going through the ups and downs with them. I really enjoyed this story and I would even like to see what happened to some of the other characters in this story. This was a really great read, you should get this book. I did get this as an ARC review copy but I also purchased this book, because it was just that good, I wanted it in my Kindle Library.

I was not sure what to expect with this book based on the description but I am so glad that I chose to read it. If there was a higher score than 5, this book would be an 11. Ever since the first book I read by this author, I have been hooked and she keeps elevating the bar with each of her stories.
“The universe is full of wonderful opportunities, and you should never limit yourself to mediocrity.” This quote from the beginning chapter sets the stage for the powerful storyline that follows. Kennedy is a young woman who is about to embark on a life away from her family and attend university in another country. Armed with her wholesome, Catholic upbringing, she is seeking to become a civil engineer and live a little. Who knew how much her life was going to change when she found herself in Italy and meeting Tristan? Tristan is an older man who is the second born son of a mafia family who is working as a cleaner for the family while dealing with his own business ventures outside of the family. After somewhat of a challenging school week, Kennedy and her roommate Sara, wind up at The Whiskey Bar where she has her first encounter with Tristan. From the first moment Kennedy and Tristan locked eyes on each other, there was a strong attraction but Kennedy left before Tristan made a move. Fast forward a few months and the two run into each other at the construction company that Tristan’s father owns as she is there for an interview with the CEO. It is here that their relationship begins and what follows is a whirlwind. There are so many emotions that a reader will go through from betrayal to anger to seeing the strength, even if it seems unwarranted, of Kennedy as she does what she must to take care of her family. This is one storyline that must be read and I highly recommend it and look forward to what this author has coming next. HOLY EXCITING HELL!  Kennedy & Tristan was one hell of a crazy ride that had me exhausted after I finally devoured it all.  There's so much going on with this suspenseful story that I'm not actually going to give any more detail than you can get from the blurb because honestly?!  You shouldn't be wasting time with reviews when you can actually be experiencing all of this goodness that will have you all kinds of jacked up.  Man, there are twists upon turns & turns out of control twisted up, making it no problem to drop some very loud f-bombs as I was reading.  Frances Paul is not only brilliant & addictive, she's a descriptive genius so I felt like I was on the ride in person as this story took our MCs on quite the journey to many places.  My heart stayed racing, my emotions were having a good time running amok, and frankly, this was just utter perfection in my opinion.  So, seriously, hit those one click buttons to experience all of this for yourselves!  HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Kennedy is a civil engineering student who travels to Italy to complete her studies. This is Kennedy and Tristan story. I really liked these two. The dynamics between these two characters is great.
This book is well written and isn't your normal run of the mill mafia story. It portrays and delivers so much more!
So if you're into mafia-style romance I recommend this one.

Excellent

Wow This book will pull you in from the first words don't expect a sugar coated Mafia story because that's not what you'll get be prepared to be swept along with Tristan Moretti as he takes over the Family business when he meets Kennedy in his club although he wants her he's not prepared to fully commit to her the way she needs him to and this is the only the start of how things roll out This is a very good story at times you will think how do this couple work through their issues
well buckle up once you start to read this you won't be able to put it down

Kennedy and Tristan isn't your normal mafia story. It's darker and twisted. Their journey goes deep into the underworld of betrayal, lies and danger.

Even though Tristan and Kennedy have an explosive chemistry obstacles are thrown in their path testing their relationship.

Kennedy and Tristan will suck you in with unexpected turn of jaw dropping events that will have you craving more in this action packed drama.

I recommend any of this author's works!

What a wonderful story. I finished my ARC of Kennedy and Tristan by Frances Paul. Be fore warned this is a long book but it will hold your interest. This book was an exciting adventure of two people in love. There were so many ups and downs that you couldn’t stop reading it. Tristan met Kennedy in Italy while she was going to college and he was a mafia boss. Needless to say, things get very, very interesting. His business is grueling and it pushes Kennedy away from him. But even after he refuses to tell her about his business and then has an affair, she still takes him back. Some parts of the book were repetitive and there were quite a few typos, but it is still a very good read.

NOT YOUR TYPICAL MAFIA ROMANCE - Very close to 5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟+

This book hooked me from the very start, and I found it extremely addictive. I don't feel the need to describe this exciting story, as the blurb is quite sufficient and I wouldn't want to give anything away with spoilers.

Yes, this is in the mafia/underworld/mob genre, but this one does not romanticize the lifestyle as many other mafia romance novels do. Although there is romance, love, and plenty of heat between Kennedy and Tristan in their tumultuous relationship, this story has more of the raw, brutal reality of the mob. I'd liken this more to the flavor found in Mario Puzo's Godfather Series... not a lot of sugarcoating mob ways. Ms. Paul weaves an exciting, thrilling and addictive story, which shows the dangerous reality of falling in love with a mobster and how it can change a woman, robbing her innocence.

I knocked off one star because there were some consistent grammatical errors, especially with tenses. In addition, although this is definitely a standalone, the ending was a little abrupt, but the reader will still be satisfied.

If you can handle a brutally real mob story, instead of the typical, fantasized and romanticized ones that are a dime a dozen, I recommend giving this one a try. It's a bit different.

I received an ARC through Book Sirens, and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Overall: 2.2/5
Great story, but inconsistent style and too many errors. I'm aware this is an ARC, but still. I believe a book so close to publishing date should be way more polished than this.

Cover: 4/5
This cover was what first drew me to want to read this, as any good cover should. To the point that seeing the page count did not deter me. I'm not giving it five stars because though it was that interesting, it didn't quite drop my jaw, so to speak.

Writing/Delivery: 6/10
Overall, I really liked the story... the concept as such. However, I often found myself wondering whether maybe the author found herself in different moods on each writing session and this strongly affected her style, or some parts of this book were actually written by a ghost writer.

There's nothing wrong with employing those, but it was just hard not to notice the contrast in style and correctness. Where one style was occasionally a little too "telling" of sometimes inconsequential details and plagued with errors, mostly of punctuation, the other would just plant itself there so powerfully with (or in the middle of) scenes that made you get in the character's skin and experience their current emotions even in the past tense, third person omniscient perspective, and was flawlessly written/edited.

As far as the errors go, this is actually supposed to be polished sometime after the manuscript is submitted and approved, and at that point out of the author's hands; I'm aware of this. BUT... if there weren't so many I would let it slide, it being an ARC and all. But wouldn't be fair to other ARCs I review which don't have this problem not to hold this book to the same standards. I will get to the appropriate department in a jiffy, though.

Editorial 1/10
There are just too many errors to let fly, even for an advanced reader copy. If the work is revised, or if there is already a revised version, I would like to know. Feel free to send me a message. I will gladly check it out and adjust my review and rating accordingly.

This two part in one book just ended. I was expecting closure. Instead I had questions. I did enjoy the romance and story of Tristan and Kennedy. Both of them are a match made for each other. Kennedy is not as soft as she seems. I enjoyed seeing their relationship go through the ups and downs. Be prepared for the twists and turns in this book. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Part one tells the story of how they fell in love. Part two explains how they must fight for their love. I thought she would leave her husband. Her mother gave her sound advice. The story is long but good. Happy reading!

I have to admit this book was quite different than what I normally read. I had a difficult time in real spots at the desire to continue on, but then a page or so would have me deciding to stick with it. I understand that the story revolves around a mob family in Italy and the consequences of double crossing another family. Trust in and Kennedy come from polar opposite families and their relationship is far on typical. Regard, less of a couple rough spots for me, I am glad I stuck with it to the end.

I'm going to be totally honest I went back and forth with this review and how I was going to word it just like I went back and forth with the book. I wanted to love it I did because its mafia and I absolutely love the mafia world and getting sucked into that life and not coming up for air however, I didn't love it. At times I found myself just scanning the book not really reading it and other times I just didn't click well with me. Like I said I wanted to love it but I just couldn't get into it.

This book really didn't do it for me. I read all these gushing reviews but somehow I never could get into it. The pacing was uneven; it was a long book that seemed to drag in spots and then seemed to be racing. The romance seemed superficial and Tristan came across as remote and detached. Kennedy just wasn't real to me. The mafia aspect of the story was about what I expected but the ending certainly wasn't. Not a bad effort but I think it needs a good bit of additional editing.

This book was a slow burn and I couldnt decide if i loved it or if i wanted it to end. There is just so much to talk about, I dont know where to start. I dont usually read books that have infidelity and the fact that Tristen was hot one min and cold the other and then Kennedy was always frustrated with her lack of knowledge into the family business, I could feel her frustration but also felt like she should be a proper mob wife and not question everything. Overall I enjoyed this book but its pretty dark and violent so be prepared for that.
