When Frank Taylor received a letter from his wartime friend in need of help he was far from imagining the horrors that were dormant in Ireland which could unleash the most destructive evil the world has ever seen.

As soon as he steps foot in Dublin he finds himself facing a conspiracy brewing in the city that is darker than a pint of stout.
A Republican spy is missing. A British ship is bringing suspicious cargo from abroad. A renowned British doctor turned Egyptologist has been seen aboard it. And the rain doesn't seem to ever stop.
All normal events in the Dublin of 1920. Except that the Egyptologist was supposed to be dead.

Trapped between the Republican raids and the British Empire, Frank has no way out other than fight until the end to solve the riddle of the dead man he once fought along with.
In order to take on the full power of the evil lurking in the city Frank enlists the help of Professor Walsh, the Trinity College specialist in Ancient Middle-Eastern deities.
Can he solve the puzzle in time or will the ongoing war become the most meaningless of their problems?
The fate of Ireland and even the world are in his hands now.

From an early age, John D. P. Martin has attempted his luck at becoming a professional daydreamer, until he found out that it was quite hard to trade those dreams for food at the supermarket. With that short-lived career behind he resorted to working in the software industry instead, to pay the bills.

The first manuscript he remembers writing had something to do with ten-year-olds investigating a haunted mansion. He thinks.

The stories continued to live for many years only on his head and on many notebooks, of various shapes and sizes.

At some point, and while the typewriter is still gathering dust in a garage somewhere, the digital book revolution happened and he started typing away without having to change tapes. He acknowledges this is a much better way of producing manuscripts, albeit not as romantic.

He currently lives in Dublin with his wife, four laptops, and a two-year-old sourdough starter.

Dark Rain is the first book in the Frank's Shadow series and is an entertaining horror story set in 1920s Dublin.

I really enjoyed this book. The writing is very descriptive, bringing you into the story with Frank Taylor on his adventure to save the world from evil. The story is well written and engaged my interest from start to finish with action, adventure, suspense, danger, and horror. I am looking forward to more books in this series.

I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.
