For years, Desi’s heart resided in the hands of the infamous, Jamel King. Loving someone as prominent as Jamel was never easy; however, Desi did her best to stay by his side. But the more dominant he became in the streets of Akron, the more their relationship began to falter. When his infidelities become too much for her heart to handle, she decides that leaving him would be the best decision for her. She only wants to focus on her basketball career and obtaining her degree, with no more room for love in her heart. The toxicity that existed in her relationship had her never wanting to love again. That is until she crosses paths with the handsome basketball coach, Chris Cashton. Everything about Chris’ demeanor is alluring to Desi; so much to the point that she decides to let her guard down and test the waters with him. However, when Jamel discovers that Desi and Chris are secretly involved, things quickly take a turn for the worst. A deadly turn, that is. This is an urban fiction love story, full of jaw-dropping events that will have you on the edge of your seat.
3.5 stars Enjoyed this book. I like the authors writing. This is the third book I've read from her and each one has been good. This book ends in a cliffhanger
So this is my first ready Author Nyerra, and she had me wondering what would happen next🤔 who would be backstabbing, and / or betraying who👀, etc🤣🤣🤣. Desi's ex-boyfriend/situationship was a yeah a** Motherfudgesicklestix ninja, Fr fr. Ninjas swear they love you, all while dogging you out and giving🍆to next bih RAW DOG AND ALL😡😡😡. DENAE WAS JUST DUMB AND TRIFLING ASF 🤷🏾♀️! Like the level of backstabbing and betrayal😔😔😔. With a sister like her who needs enemies🙄😒. Her bestie was trash ASF, too. She thought she was doing something, NOT🤣🤣🤣. Chris & Lauryn seemed to just be together because they've been at it for so long🙄. That relationship seemed forced ASF🤷🏾♀️. That chemistry he had with Desi just off one look was crazy. Lauryn appears to have some extra ish going on work, the boys man, cause ain't that much Motherfudgesicklestix working in the world🤷🏾♀️(could be wrong). That tea she dropped was like👀👀👀
I might have allowed myself to enjoy Pain Mixed with You, but for the frequent and gratuitous use of the word "nigga". The plot and character development were works in progress, rather than fully evolved, yet the story line has promise. Nyerra's employment of a good editor might be a viable solution to repairing this book's many flaws. Although the novel ended with a cliffhanger, it did not hold my interest enough to induce me to purchase the next installment. 🥱
This may be a short read but it packs a mighty punch. Yo the drama that's going with these characters had me all the way dialed in. Lets start with Desi the female lead. She is this basketball ball greatness but when we first meet her she is trying to recover from yet another heartbreak Jamel. Jamel is narcissist if I ever did see one. The ninja is cheating left and right on Desi but has the nerve not to want to let her go. Danae, Desi has her own mess going namely one involving her sister. Chris love him but dude come on.
Hmmm 🤔, how did we/they get here🤦🏾♀️⁉️…What🥴⁉️ I detested being confused when reading especially with new authors 🥴‼️ Unfortunately, “Pain Mixed With You” (3.75 ⭐️’s) tested the theory & my resolve with the poor character & plot development. These character & storyline combinations were Jerry Springer disloyal, messy & foul. …Nevertheless, hopefully, “Pain Mixed With You - book two” will provide the clarity & context to salvage the storyline, review & my opinion of this read 🧐.
Whew, chile, dis tew merch!😩 I don't even know where to start, it was just drama, drama, drama EVERYWHERE! And with everybody! Desi and Chris definitely have chemistry, but good grief, I could hardly enjoy it with all the craziness and confusion the folks around them were stirring up. This book is definitely a page turner. I cannot wait to read the finale because I have got to see how all the pieces finally land!
Great story line, outstanding characters I really enjoyed this book to the end. Then I remembered in the beginning of the book it was stated that this was a two part story. I hate to read two part books that's why I have it 4 stars in stead of 5 stars. If I want to know how the story ends I have to get another book. I like my stories all in one book. But I enjoyed this story.
OK, I absolutely hate cliffhangers, yet because this was a good read, I'm going to get book 2 to see what the heck is going on.
There are way too many words that I can say about this book, yet I don't want to write a dissertation, so I'll keep it short and sweet.
Drama, lust, betrayal, hurt, pain, dishonesty and much more was wrapped up in this book. There was no loyalty for Desi and it sucked to see her get hurt the way she did.
I’ve read a few books by this author and have enjoyed them. The pain of disloyalty from a family member or someone that you’ve love for a while can take you off of your game. Poor Desi was definitely going through a lot of pain. I didn’t like Tate, Jamel or Lauryn and cannot wait to read book 2!
Mel was a dog. I don't know why he wouldn't leave Desi alone. Desi's sister and best friend were pieces of shit too. You don't mess with family and friends, current or ex man. Lauryn has a nerve to do what she did. Karma is going to bite then all in the ass.
It is hard to say which pain was the most painful, if one can measure a level of pain to ones heart. A stellar athlete falls for her coach and things unravel unevenly. Part one will have me coming back for the conclusion for sure.
So, so good! There were a ton of different little stories going on in this tale, but the author did a wonderful job keeping them intertwined. I wasn't even upset about the cliffhanger. On to the next one...
This was a away guy out there. it got Interested from beginning to end. Now a moment wasted. Looking forward to part two. Hold on Chris and Desi, it's coming!!!
Nyerra, good read. Watching Desi go through disturbing things. To see the growth she had. And all the things that went on in her life to cause her pain. I can't wait to see what happens next
