Book 3 of the Not Your Basic Witch SeriesLegends of Asteria Trilogy 1The Not Your Basic Witch is a WhyChoose/Reverse Harem trilogy featuring MMFMMM meaning there is M/M content, and the female main character doesn't have to choose between her love interests. Each trilogy should be read in order. This book contains references involving violence and other themes that some readers may find triggering.
USA Today Bestselling Author A.J. Macey has an addiction to coffee, cats, and swearing. Sucks at adulting and talking to people, so she'll frequently be lost in a book or running away with her imagination when she's not spending time with her husband, daughter, or two cats Thor and Loki. A.J. has a B.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice, and previous coursework in Forensic Science, Behavioral Psychology, and Cybersecurity. Before becoming an author, A.J. worked as a Correctional Officer in a jail where she met her husband. She started writing just for fun when she was little and continued to create stories for years until finally sitting down to finish and publish a book in 2018!
When I read the first book of the series, I had so many hopes.
Alas, it didn't go as I wished.
The theory of conduit and tethers were not really explained. And the Prime Minister goes to do rounds of the cities and then also he doesn't know what's happening in Akasha?? I mean, come on! You can't be that blind-sided!!
AJ Macy and Jerrica James are amazing this series is super sweet but also thrilling in the characters are fantastic it's definitely something you want to read
This was a good final installment to this trilogy and had the same quality writing as the previous books. I only have two complaints: 1) there were a lot more sexy times in this book (I'm all for it!), but it seemed like they were added just because and didn't seem to flow as naturally to me. Still well written, but didn't get the same feels. 2) I felt the rebellion happened extremely fast and, while well done, made it feel slightly anti-climactic to me. Definitely recommend this series because these authors built a great world and characters. Looking forward to the next trilogy in this universe!
Can I give more than 5 stars? This series snagged me and wouldn't let me go from page one. I love the FMC, her men are swoon worthy, and the storyline is fantastic! You really couldn't ask for more in a paranormal reverse harem romance! Thank you for another spectacular read!
WHAT. A. RIDE. The chills, the thrills, the sexy times... Aris and her guys have gone through one trial after another, and they are determined to prove that not only are they stronger together but also that no one is better than anyone else. From fugitives to fame, the bond between conduit and tethers never falters. AJ Macey and Jarica James have written a thrilling conclusion to the witchy shenanigans of Aris, Torryn, Drayce, Caspian, Kyelerian, and Xanthius. While I am sad to see the end of their story, I look forward to what these talented authors have hidden in their pink Converse and tutus.
Finales can be awkward with pulling all the stories together, but this is done perfectly. All the pieces come together with plenty of action and from multiple pov's. I really like how the guys never question that Aris can accomplish stuff on her own. They all protect each other and never treat her like a weak link. I love all the magic and sayings. So glad this isn't the end of this world or the last time we will see Aris
I'm sad to see this story come to an end and I'm going to miss this incredible world that these authors created. Jarica and A.J. have won a spot in my heart for Aris and her men and I couldn't be happier. ❤
It was easy to dive back into this world. There was all types of action and romance. I enjoyed the pov changes. This book wrapped things up nicely while leaving room for more stories with the gang.
This wrap up was just absolutely perfect for this amazing series. It was just a great read and I love the characters so much. So happy we aren’t saying goodbye because we get a novella! This was swoon worthy and heart stoping and just perfect!
Absolutely loved this series ❤️ Aris is so bubbly and fun, I want to be her friend! The guys are great, so caring and lovable! But they always fight for each other it’s so sweet! Great read!
Loved this story. Well written and entertaining, I really enjoyed this book. After everything Aris and her guys go through this book brings it all together. A.J. Macey and Jarcia James have written a fantastic and captivating series and this book rounds it off perfectly, a big thank you to both.
This final book dragged a bit. It's like, I'd read the first two, I knew that this must be where Aris and her men dethrone the council (good must triumph over evil, otherwise I'd curse the authors and never pick up a book from either of them again 😅). So with the ending never in doubt, the authors had difficulty making me feel anxious for the main characters, and without that anxious feeling or the anticipation and tension, things felt rather flat.
Sure, they get attacked a few times, and are placed in peril, but somehow I never believed that the outcome was in jeopardy. And I also noticed that the attacks only came when it was convenient?
It's a satisfying ending in the sense that everybody who deserved it got their comeuppance, but bringing the president into the picture just made it absolutely unbelievable. If the president cared that much about the country and its people, he wouldn't have been that clueless about the state of affairs on the ground and also what was going on under his nose within the council. He doesn't even seem to have realised that most academies refuse to grant admission to Mixtas. My impression of him is that he has been impotent and a figurehead, while the council ran rings around him. Therefore, for him to suddenly appear and take charge made me wonder where he has been all this while.
And it was all too easy, like waving a magic wand and having things just fall into place. I felt that the authors decided to use the president because they needed some way to end the cat-and-mouse game between the council and the harem/coven, and they couldn't come up with a different, more believable solution. The president was... convenient. He was a caricature with no substance. He just happens to have a gift or power that helps him to divine the truth? Oh yes, mighty convenient indeed.
So the book felt dissatisfying. Aris and her men had done all the hard work behind the scenes, but at the end, the president swoops in and steals the limelight and is the one who actually saves them, more than saving their world. The characters are one-dimensional. Aris meets the other guys' parents and everybody loves her. Even Xan's stick-up-his-arse dad succumbs in the end; I could see that coming from five miles away, it was so obvious. The only people who don't like her are the three female bullies at school and her own family. Even Headmaster Tallis likes her, although it's the kind of creepy 'like' that every girl prays to avoid. There were so many stereotypical characters and clichéd caricatures that the book suffered for it.
I lost a little bit of interest in this series during book 2 but book 3 sucked me right back in. The fight for witch equality is something that mirrors our reality so it was easy to connect with and become invested. The political drama was expected but the overall resolution to the inequality battle surprised me with the prime minister. Having the prime minister on Aris’s side definitely made it easy to call for and implement the new laws that allow for equality and inclusiveness.
I did notice a few inconsistencies and context errors which surprised me because I didn’t remember any during book 1 & 2 so maybe the authors were rushing to get this one out or wasn’t in the right headspace since it was the final book for Aris. The moms of Xan and Kye were mixed up a couple of times. When they came back to the academy, at one point it said Tor put the animals in his office but then a few chapters (the next day) later, he disappeared to his office during dinner but it was mentioned that it was his first time back and still had to remove the ward. Just little things like that made me think the authors weren’t quite in sync with this book’s writing compared to the first 2.
I have loved diving into this world of witches and look forward to reading some more from this vast universe.
This book wrapped up the previous two so beautifully, but still kept you guessing until the end. Seeing Aris come into her own and finally appreciate and love who she is wholly and unashamedly was absolutely incredible. She had come so far from the beginning, that seeing her finally become a force to be reckoned with was the absolute best.
AJ Macey and Jarica James ended this series with a bang and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. They nailed this ending, and I couldn't have asked for a better resolution for Aris and the guys, even if they did torture me along the way and made me so mad at one point that I actually yelled and threw my phone across the room.
Obviously, all was well in the end, but still. They know what they did.
I laughed, I cried, I screamed, I squealed; it was an all-around great series ending. I look forward to many more co-writes from these two in the future.
What an awesome conclusion to Aris's story! I loved every single part of this book, but some parts will forever have a special place in my heart.
My first favorite part was when she finally had enough out of Xan's father and put him in his place, and then her men arrive as she is doing that so she gets reunited with them with just made me giddy with joy.
The second favorite is when she stands up to the council and Tallis in front of the Prime Minister and then the Prime Minister sees for himself exactly how corrupt the council and Tallis are due to his ability and deals with them accordingly.
Probably my most favorite part of the whole book is when Aris stands up to her family and renounces the Calisto name and after that Caspian, Torryn, Drayce, Kye, and Xan propose to her. I just love how her men love and cherish her <3.
Also, I absolutely can not wait for the Born to Be Witchy novella to see how things are going for them all after everything that has happened.
I tried so hard to read this book. I originally came across this book and was waiting for more of the series to come out before I started. I can read a series pretty quickly and hate waiting. I’m not sure I’m going to be able to continue with this series. If I read “Hell’s Bell’s and Tarrot Tells” one more time! Even the “Witch Please” was a bit much. The whole witchy vibe of the book for some reason was annoying. Everything or every name had a witch spin on it, and for me I didn’t find it cute. Maybe I will try and give book 2 a chance later on down the road. It’s just I didn’t find the relationship between them genuine. It was way too fast. I don’t like really really slow burn RH, but I don’t like the face paced RH either where it doesn’t seem “real”. I love Jarica’s AJ’s other series/books , but this one wasn’t for me.

Things certainly speed up in this book. Aris and her men are preparing for the final confrontation with the council to fight for equality for all witches. This however, doesn't go without the council trying to stop our favourite coven.
In a nutshell
HEA? Yes, definitely a happy ending Heat? 4,5/5 Romance? 5/5 These boys are completely devoted to their girl Drama? 3/5 While there is drama, it never felt like our main characters didn't have it under control.
I loved the character and plot development in this book. They picked up speed after the second book and we had some amazing moments. My favourite? Familiar training, because I love them!
Just when I thought things in the last book were bad, the events in this book were absolutely crazy! Aris really had gotten the short straw in life. She was a wanted fugitive and the governing power that wanted her was as corrupt as they come. To make matters even more dire, it turns out that she was becoming the figure head for a revolution. All Aris wanted when she went to college was to make friends. She got a lot more than what she bargained for.
If you want to read my full thoughts on the book, then please check out the blog post that I did for this book!
Well now thats the way to end a series. One last big action-packed book where all the loose ends were tied up. Loved how Aris (FMC) found her strength and confidence at last with help of her guys - Drayce, Torryn, Xan, Kye and Caspian. The steam level with these characters was off the charts in this last book. Hot to read! My favourite part by far in this book was when Aris gave her parents a much deserved mouthful. Ive been waiting the whole series for that to happen so that was a highlight for me. A seriously brilliant series and i loved every minute reading it
Aris and her tethers aren’t done fighting. Reuniting and working for a future where they can thrive, Akasha doesn’t know what’s about to hit them.
This was a great final installment to this series and Aris’ journey from happy-go-lucky Basic Witch to confident woman willing to stand up and speak out was great. The love and support this coven shows each other works to inspire greater things in each of them, and the challenge is met! Don’t miss this ending!
Along with the relationship with her guys, Aris makes some new friends, Olive, Brynn, Josephina, and Lyra. Being on the run from corrupt government officials, getting captured, being tortured, escaping, and going into hiding, all while building a great relationship between herself and her guys. The guys care for each other as much as they care for Aris, and those feelings keep getting stronger. Change is coming to the witch world and Aris and her guys are helping to make that change. Can’t wait to see what they do in the next book.
Macey and James hit it out of the park with Witches be Crazy! I was pulled straight back into the trials that the council are putting Aris and her guys through. This group of characters has been etched into my brain with all the laughter and love that we've gotten throughout the series. The ending was on point! I can't even. I'm so excited to see what else this duo can cook up in this epic paranormal universe!
Excellently written. Pulls you in right from the first page of the first book and keeps you enthralled all the way through to the last page. The editing is done very well also. It's nice to read through a series with very few grammatical errors. Characters are strongly written and you get to know each character intimately. I definitely recommend this whole series.
Another great story about the corrupt witches and a newly created coven based on a very rare witch connection with five males. A relationship of MMFMM, a number of scenes of intimacy outlined of either MM, MF, MF so just letting you know as it could be confronting. Also the story contains some scenes that could be a trigger for some. If you do become triggered by reading certain sections please seek help.
A great ending for a cute little pink haired witch. Even through the challenges and threats, Aris and her guys stuck together proving themselves a see less coven. Forming individual relationships between each other and fixing broken bonds. And let’s not forget those hot and steamy scenes! This story was a good conclusion to the series.
What a fantastic ending to this series! I have loved reading every action packed, sexy minute of Aris and the guys journey! Aris is such an amazingly strong FMC and I absolutely love her, and the guys too of course. I cannot wait and am so excited to read the follow-up epilogue Book! This is definitely a must read series!
