Rate this book
Sara knew Cody was up for making her spying ex-boyfriend jealous. What she didn't count on was wanting more from him than their carefully timed, on-camera action...

Even though I visit Last Call to see my grandparents every year, this time feels different. Maybe it’s because of Nan's Alzheimer's. Or because I’m trying to keep the disaster of my last relationship firmly in the past where it belongs, though my ex, Roger, makes that difficult when he’s tracking my every move.

It could also be the fact that Cody, the local playboy-turned-firefighter, has been helping my grandparents with chores on their farm, and it’s… distracting. In a welcome way. I am not a girl who turns down help, especially when it’s hot, blond, and standing in my doorway.

With Cody happy to help me prove my creepy ex has bugged my laptop, he and I decide to put on a not-safe-for-work show. Or three. Just enough teasing to get a reaction—recorded evidence that Roger’s broken the law.

I know. I know. It seems like a good idea... At first.

Beyond our mutual lapse in judgment, Cody’s actually more than just a really sexy friend with benefits. He’s a good friend, period. He knows what it’s like to be alone, to have to re-learn how to trust other people.

People like me. Cody is someone who wouldn’t let anyone use me like I’ve been using him.

Crap.

OK I was so enamored with this story. I really wanted to get into this story and when I did I could not relinquish it once I started. I adored Cody and I thought what a wonderful guy. Not only in the sense of boyfriend material but for the long haul! He is a remarkable written character with flaws like all of us and I really enjoyed that he has made mistakes but he is honorable. Sara knew asking him to do this was a chance she was going to have to take and the fact that she understood what she was asking of him and then navigating the repercussions were going to be something she just had to deal with even if it meant losing the one thing that she cared for even without realizing it. This is a great story written with clarity and love, you see it from the first page and it flows with precision and grace. I highly recommend reading this in order with this series but this can be read as a standalone. These characters will engage you and make you feel for them and their plights in navigating the world.

Small town romance, about 200 pages, trigger warnings, dark elements, secrets, revelations and enemies-to-pretend lovers-to-real deal theme. Told from Sara's POV with humor, detailed descriptions and heartfelt emotions. When Sara returns to town to care for her grandparents, she reconnects with Cody - a man who was very popular with the ladies growing up. Could he be as kind and responsible as he appears? Or is he as devious as the ex she left behind? I like this story for the plot, likable characters and sizzling chemistry. There are strong, vulnerable men and women. There is love found by people who deserve a happily ever after. Engrossing story!
