She cannot see me, but she can hear me; and that is all I’ll need to make her fall in love... with me.

Everything I’ve ever needed, is right here in my Paradise, including the whining brats I led away from their parents eons ago with my magical flute; but when that sorceress, Celeste Dubois, shows up and suggests that things need to change - that I need to change, I know she has lost her mind. That is, until she presents me with a brown beauty named Melodie, who awakens something deep inside me with her own music. I thought I had everything, but suddenly, I’m considering that maybe I don’t. I’m full of magic and music, but will those be enough to win Melodie’s heart? Especially when she learns that I’m the villain she despises from the folktales of old?

I can’t see him, but his music is like magic, and it restores my belief in true love.

Patrick appeared out of nowhere - not that I can actually see him, but the aura and the vibe he carries is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Sometimes, I think I can actually see his radiance, and when he plays that flute of his, the sound is like healing magic. But my son, Rafael, has reservations. He says he recognizes Patrick from somewhere, though he’s not totally sure. Rafael is my eyes. I want to follow his lead, the way I always do, but Patrick is like magic, and his music is beckoning me closer...

**READER ALERT**

This story contains extremely passionate and descriptive sex scenes. Not suitable for readers under the age of 18 years, or those who may be offended by somewhat graphic descriptions of sexual encounters. This story also contains scenes which include expletives. Brooklyn's characters exhibit real emotions and desires, and though she is their creator, she is also very sensitive to their needs and wants, and works in partnership with them to create their unique HEAs.

This story has a little of everything, sweet romance, sexy overbearing and frustrating alpha make and a beautiful woman who has the right heart and spirit. Thoroughly enjoying and entertaining.

In Pied, the Pied Piper has a name, Patrick Piper. He seems to have it all, a cloaked magical kingdom, servants who wait on him night and day for centuries. Those servants being the children he led away from Hamlin for lack of payment for his services. A man should be paid for his work, right? I would be mistrustful of people too, if I was promised payment and then denied. However, taking the children as payment, hmm that was villainous and a low blow. Oh and get this, he hates kids! I would have just brought the rats back!

When he is offered a chance to redeem himself by the beautiful *mahogany enchantress,* Celeste Dubois, who was once evil too, Patrick is not so easily swayed. Yes, well I am already taken with this story as soon as Celeste came on the scene with her mate, Magnum, a dragon shifter of all things! Celeste gives Patrick a peek into another world where he encounters another equally beautiful deep honey skinned woman, Melodie. She is a master flautist, a single mother and she is going blind. Patrick is transcended by the music Melodie is playing on her flute.
His reaction is primal and he has feelings he has not had in a long time for anyone.
Patrick is now willing to go for his second chance in this place called New York, mostly because of Melodie.
However, Melodie whose son loves the story of the Pied Piper, is not so taken with Patrick. Their first encounter, Patrick went all in and kisses her, which makes Melodie fearful. Though the powerful magic, music and attraction between them has her seeing in colors while locked in his embrace, Melodie is not having it! Patrick could simply use his flute to make her fall in love with him, but he wants her to come to him on her own.
Patrick may be a bit bratty at times, but his awful past is revealed and we come to understand why he is the way he is. However, can loving Melodie redeem him from his wicked ways and heal his broken heart? Can she forgive his past and love the person he is with her?

I truly loved this story, the characters are beautifully written with depth. I have to admit, I was rooting for Patrick, despite his past! The comedy of him learning about cell phones and technology while trying to live in the concrete jungle of New York was realistic and truly believable. As a reader, I love stories that take me to places of wonder and magic and Pied by Brooklyn Knight, has it in spades!

An interesting book. I loved the premise that perhaps the villains of stories we grew up with aren't evil so much as having been pushed into evil acts, and as such are capable of redemption. I would like to check out other books in this series.

That said this one had moments I needed to put the book down and read a few chapters of another book cuz the characters were driving me crazy. Even by the third quarter of the story, Patrick was still an angry selfish jerk in many ways and those around him were almost saintly in their ability to overlook his words and actions. The rather random Germanic usage of words for reproductive anatomy and to replace the Fbomb I'm guessing are supposed to be quaint and adorable. Rather it's jarring and threw me off rhythm of reading; it either needed more words/phrases as he learned our language or to wean off as he uses English and even slang vernacular with little issue. And Melodie is constantly almost obsessed with her missing vision and yet this responsible mother is constantly sniffing after him like a lust drunk teen and doesn't think twice to have sexual acts with him in public or at least shared living spaces like the living room of a bed and breakfast.....despite knowing there's two others in the house.

Those issues aside the book had good premise of evil merely being bad choices that can be redeemed. As well as the tried and true fairytale trope of all being fixed by true love's kiss. The background characters were a superb cast that made even the main characters actions possible to push past.

Overall, I'd rate this 3.5 stars, good at heart but needs some redeeming magic to bring out that potential.

The Pied Piper as a romantic hero? An original and risky idea, but Brooklyn Knight pulled it off.

Patrick Piper is quite a character. He is obnoxious as hell, condescending and rude, as only 13th century nobility can be. His over the top inner monologue about 'fickin peasants' and the movements of his 'schwanz' kept me chuckling all the way. When he meets Melodie Harper, he knows right away that he needs to have her. Since Patrick is used to getting what he wants, the meet-cute is nothing short of a #metoo moment. Melodie Harper however, not only stands her ground, but also finds it in her heart to forgive him and give him a second chance. What follows is a believable, seductive romance, where both characters help each other grow as individuals and eventually as a couple. I flipped pages till the end. A truly entertaining read.

The novel contains lots of dirty talk and a few explicit scenes. If you are up for that, and like to have a laugh with your romance, then this is a story for you!

Nothing like a retelling that's takes a villain and gives their tale a new spin. Patrick is self absorbed and arrogant, going with his life playing the flue and luring away children. One day things change and he realizes there's something he wants more, Melodie. This story bring two people into a fluid story including romance, learning, and growing. Looking forward to what the next tale in this series brings.

The Truth is Out There

I loved the idea for this story. As a child I had always felt like the character Rafael, that there is more than one side to the story and I had been on the Pied Pipers side. The writer took this story and made it believable. Even fairy tales can be fun to re-tale and this one was well done with a twist.

Are all worthy of a second chance?

I often ponder this. Is there enough room in our hearts to look deeper. Have understanding of why? Can even the thief of children be redeemed? The answer truly lies in them. Can they learn from their mistakes? Can they grow and change?

I loved this read! It is a new spin on an old tale. I didn't want the story to end. Great plot, character interaction and romance. Patrick and Melodie are great together once they get over a few humps along the way.

Great Twist!

Definitely shows there are three sides to a story! Seeings the POV of the different characters gave the book more depth and meaning.

I have never read a book from Brooklyn Knight nor do I read this genre yet Im glad I took the chance to read something different for a reading challenge. At first I wasn't sure what genre to classify this book as yet paranormal romance is what I took it for. Step out of my comfort zone. Melodie and Patrick were a couple who seemed to be in love. I have to admit it didn't hold my attention, yet it was written well. Brooklyn has a good writing technique where the words pull you in so for that reason, I would recommend this book to readers who love this genre.

Loved it

Loved this book. Who knew that The Pied Piper could be so mesmerizing. Patrick Piper was misunderstood from the beginning. He was abused by his parents and the towns people. Since they couldn’t/wouldn’t pay him he took their
children by playing his magical flute. Hundreds of years later he was granted a do-over against his wishes and found love and forgiveness in New York with Melodie. You are going to love this book. It puts a spin on what a villain is.

Pied Piper

I love this retelling of this story! This is a fairytale for adults! I love how the main character was able to show how talented he is instead of focusing on what he originally did to the children of the town’s people.
