From the Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestselling author comes the first book in a trilogy about love, betrayal, and the secrets families keep.

Forced to choose between abortion or adoption, Olivia Carson’s younger sister, Lily, runs away from home. Sixteen and pregnant, she never returns. But she writes. Once a year, Lily mails a picture of her son, Josh, to Olivia until his thirteenth year. Then it’s Josh himself who arrives at Olivia’s house, alone, terrified, and in possession of a notarized declaration from Lily. It begins, “In the event I go missing…”

Josh has difficulty talking. He can’t read or write, but he’s a prolific artist, exhibiting skill beyond his age. His drawings are as detailed as they are horrific. Olivia soon realizes Josh’s artwork tells a story. There’s more to his arrival and to Lily’s untimely disappearance than it seems. Using the drawings as a road map, Olivia traces Josh’s path back to his mom. Each drawing sheds light on Lily’s past and reveals a darkness that forces Olivia to question everything she thought she knew about her family.

Here we are, first book in a new trilogy that has everything you've come to love in my books: suspense, drama, romance, and a little something that's slightly off. I can't wait for you to meet Olivia, Lucas, and Lily, three siblings torn apart by a series of tragic events who want nothing more than to come back together, even if they don't realize that's what they want... or need. I hope you enjoy Olivia's story in NO MORE WORDS. Happy reading! xo Kerry

Family Secrets, tough decisions, relationships and lies!

Olivia Carson has not seen her younger sister, Lily, since Lily ran away at the age of sixteen. Lily was pregnant and refused to abort or put her unborn child up for adoption. Lily writes once a year and sends pictures of her son but has no further contact with Olivia. Olivia is shocked when Josh, her thirteen-year-old nephew, shows up at her home with a notarized document saying if she goes missing….

Josh suffered a fall in the past left him struggling to communicate verbally. It is difficult for him to tell Olivia what happened or where his mother might be. Both Olivia and Josh are frustrated, both want answers, and both want to find Lily. Soon Olivia realizes that Josh's artwork may hold the answer. Will his artwork provide enough information to help her track down her sister?

This is an enjoyable first book in the "No More" series. This series is off to a great start as this book is full of family secrets and dysfunction which will keep readers on their toes. Lonsdale has crafted a book full of secrets, likeable and unlikeable characters and deception. I found it to be beautifully written, entertaining and enjoyable. Although I was not as blown away as other reviewers by this book, my three-star rating means I enjoyed the book.

Overall, a compelling read and promising start to a new series. Fans of Lonsdale will not be disappointed. Plus, there is a little "something" at the end of the book which left me intrigued and curious about the direction in which the next book will go!

Secrets and lies family style!

Olivia’s youngest sister, Lily, ran away twelve years ago, and they haven’t been in contact since. When a young boy turns up on Olivia’s doorstep one day, he comes with only his name, “Josh”, and a note, giving Olivia power of attorney over Josh in the event of Lily’s disappearance. Due to Josh’s traumatic brain injury, he cannot provide Olivia with details about Lily- is she alive? How did he find her? What happened to Lily? Olivia is forced to use all of her resources to find out the truth and reunite Josh with Lily, if at all possible. Doing this uncovers old wounds and family secrets, both of which Olivia has spent years trying to bury.

“No More Words” is the beginning of a new series by author, Kerry Lonsdale. As with her other novels (I have been privileged to be given early copies of most of her other novels), “Words” is full of suspense, romance, intrigue and family drama.

The story is told in two time periods, mostly narrated by Olivia (although her brother Lucas makes an appearance in a few of the modern chapters) , during the summer of her childhood and in present day. Right from the beginning, Olivia’s family seems a bit off (you just know there are skeletons in that closet!) , and the speculation begins. The three siblings are close as children, then become slowly estranged over time, each battling their own demons. The realistic depiction of a dysfunctional sibling relationship is emotional and honest, and I sympathized with all three of the Carson siblings.

Lily’s son, Josh, has to be my favourite character. Lonsdale depicts his struggle with communication so accurately, it was heart-wrenching. I felt for Josh as he tried to speak the words that his mouth wouldn’t form. A resilient boy to say the least, he hitchhikes to an unknown aunt’s house, in the quest to find his missing mother.

Lonsdale’s writing is smart and creative, making each chapter as addictive and page-turning as the one before. Her characters are realistic, and the family dynamics are dysfunctional and honest. The ending has a nice, unexpected twist, as is typical with Lonsdale, and yet it still manages to seem believable. Of course, not everything is resolved (there are two more books forthcoming after all), but I definitely felt content and satisfied when I got to the last page! I look forward to the second novel in this series, and I really loved the teaser for book two that Lonsdale provided!

Kerry does it again my friends! Oh my goodness.... I loved this so much!

I haven't read a book in a little over a day in awhile and so happy to say that Lonsdale got me out of my forever slump.

Where do I begin with all the praise I have for this book? The writing flows beautifully across the pages and the characters are so inviting and captivating.
The story is about a family's journey with multi layers and dysfunction that are gradually and slowed revealed through healing and love.

To say the least my heart broke for this family multiple times and my heart smiled along the way. What a phenomenal start to this new series that Lonsdale has for her readers.

If you've never experienced Lonsdale's writing I highly recommend any of her books.

I'm so excited to read the next in the series.

Thank you to Amazon publishing for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

After reading and loving Kerry Lonsdale's "Everything" trilogy I was super excited to read her newest novel "No More Words" which is the first book of a new trilogy.
Told in dual timelines this well-written suspenseful mystery is the story of a dysfunctional family and their dark (it seems never ending) secrets.
I have mixed feeling about this book only because parts didn't feel plausible to me. However, it did leave me wanting to read the next book to see how the author ties up the loose ends.

Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for an arc of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

I've read every book that Kerry Lonsdale has written and she just keeps getting better. No More Words is the first book in a trilogy about family and love but most of all it's about secrets and how the past affects the future.

The novel begins in the Summer of '95 when the three Carson children get dropped off at the lake home of the Whitman family. At the time Olivia is 8, Lucas is 6 and Lily is 3. Summers at the lake are idyllic and the children spend all of their time outside enjoying the freedom and the time they spend together. Years later when they are adults, the fun that they had together as children is gone and they are no longer close. Olivia is an artist, Josh has spent time in prison and Lily has run away and no one has heard from her in years. This is book 1 in a new trilogy and is Olivia's story.

Olivia is a well known illustrator and is afraid to get close to anyone emotionally. Josh is a 13 year old boy who turns up at her house and she is shocked to find out that he is her nephew. Lily got pregnant at 15 and when her parent's insisted either an abortion or an adoption, she ran away and no one in the family knows where she is. Once a year she sends Olivia a letter with a picture of Josh but that is the only contact that they've had over the years. Josh is terrified when he gets to Olivia's but due to a recent accident and aphasia - he is often unable to find the right words to use and is no longer able to read or write. He isn't able to tell Olivia what happened to his mom except that she is gone! Josh is an artist beyond his years and Olivia attempts to find out what happened to her sister by using Josh's drawings as a road map. The more that she tries to help Josh, the more she learns about her family that make her question everything that they had ever told her. Will Olivia somehow be able to find Lily so that the three siblings can become a family again?

Warning - before you start this book, make sure that your calendar is clear because I can guarantee that you won't want to put it down until the end. I can't wait to read the next two books in the series to find out more about Olivia, Josh and ivy and their quest to become family again.

Thanks to the author and net galley for a copy of this book to read and review. All opinions are my own.

No More Words is the first in the new series by Kerry Lonsdale and I had hoped to love it since I recalled enjoying each of the books in the Everything We Keep series. Whilst I found this novel engaging I didn't especially like some of the characters and found the lies and deceptions detracted from my overall enjoyment of the book. (Side note, I see the next in this series is called No More Lies so perhaps it would be more to my liking 😂).

The book primarily revolved around the members of two families, the Carson's and the Whitman's. The Carson's were not remotely close and as the story unfolded the reasons behind this became known. As children, siblings Olivia, Luke and Lily Carson were regularly sent away to spend the six week summer holiday with the Whitman's so their father Dwight could focus on his political campaign. Their youngest daughter, Lily, run away aged sixteen as she was unmarried and pregnant and her parents would not tolerate the scandal of it. Though she has never been seen since she sends an annual letter with a photo of her son Josh. This year instead of receiving the letter Josh turned up on Olivia's doorstep. He's now a preteen but is showing signs of distress. He has experienced a head injury, is unable to communicate clearly thanks to an inability to remember the words he needs to explain what happened, and more alarming is that he doesn't know where his mother is or if she's even alive.

The story held my interest but I'm writing this review five days after finishing it and I had to rely heavily on my notes as I simply had no recollection of the story without them. I guess its okay to have enjoyed a book even though it's not especially memorable.

The start of a new trilogy from Kerry Lonsdale is cause for celebration for me, I loved her previous series and I’ve loved her standalones as well. This was such a strong start to a series, I cannot wait for the next two books!

One of the best things about this authors books is that they’re a blend of so many genres so there’s literally something for everyone. There’s a mystery surrounding both her nephews appearance and her sister’s disappearance, a romance between Liv and Blaze, and an emotional plot as family secrets are revealed. I loved seeing Liv connect with her nephew and build a familial bond over their concern over Lily and found Josh to be such a sweet kid. I found this to be such a page turner and I was invested almost immediately, definitely recommended as an engrossing summer read.

Thank you to the publisher for the eARC of this book via NetGalley.

....

I have read previous novels by Kerry Lonsdale and was thrilled to see she had a new novel coming out!

The book starts off in the summer of 1995: Meet Charlotte and Dwight Carson - married couple with 3 children - Olivia (8), Lucas (6) and Lily (3). The 3 children spend their summers with the Whitman's at their lakeside cabin and have fun with the Whitman's 2 children, Theo (but wants to be called Blaze -8) and Tyler (5). They quickly become good friends and the Whitman's is the highlight of their summers.

The book jumps back and forth from various timelines, from summers years ago at the Whitman's lakeside cabin, tot he present when the children are all grown up. I enjoyed reading about the past and getting glimpses of the main characters and what makes them who they are today. It gave a lot of background history of each of the characters in the book and made for great character development.

I was hooked on this book from the very first chapter and enjoyed reading about all of the characters. The Carson family certainly had their fair share of secrets and lies, as did the Whitman's, and I loved reading about all of the family dynamics. There were a lot of twists and turns that I really enjoyed, and lots of revelations that I didn't see coming. A lot of tragedy, murder, lies, deception, and even some romance thrown in there as well.

A great book that I highly recommend.

Kerry Lonsdale starts her latest trilogy off with a bang! Brimming with drama, suspense, and family secrets galore, NO MORE WORDS will have you tearing through the pages to figure out what really happened to this broken family, and who is playing whom. With beautifully drawn, complex characters, and a twisted plot that reveals itself layer by layer, NO MORE WORDS is a stunning thriller that deserves a top-spot on your “to be read” list.

Olivia hasn’t seen her sister Lily since she ran away from home, pregnant at the age of 16. But she writes to Olivia mailing her a picture of her son Josh every year. This year Josh shows up at her home without Lily. Because of an accident Josh has difficulty talking, reading, and writing but he can draw and his drawings are frightening. Can Olivia find out what happened to her sister? A good past/present story. I look forward to the next book in this trilogy.

The first in a trilogy, No More Words reads like a standalone that I recommend not waiting on. There's no need for the next two books to be out, Kerry Lonsdale delivers a solid family drama full of mystery, secrets, and love. Told predominantly from the perspective of oldest sibling, Olivia, No More Words follows Olivia as she faces her fear of love and trust, takes in her nephew, and searches for her long missing sister.

I can't give away more, I think the blurb already gives away too much, but I will say this is a complex family drama that I could not put down. Olivia is a fantastic character, she's just adult enough to be aware of her flaws, but also has enough trauma to not want to face them. Somehow Lonsdale manages to tackle all of Olivia's own personal issues with family and men, while also tackling the family drama that surrounds the Carsons. I loved the storyline with Josh, her nephew, it changed her so much, and allowed her to finally let love in. This one is a must read and I am looking forward to the next two.

After not speaking to her sister, Lily, for 14 years, Olivia is dumbfounded to find her 13 year old nephew, Josh, on her doorstep. Why is he there? Why is he unable to form complete sentences? And, where the heck is her estranged sister?

No More Words, the first in a new series, is a fast-paced mystery/thriller about a deliciously dysfunctional family (the type that's fun to read about but not to be a member of haha). It focused mostly on Olivia, a graphic novelist, and her complicated relationship with younger siblings, Lucas and Lily. What happened during their childhood to cause so many fissures, and will they be able to heal their relationships?

This book has/had superb potential but... what a mess... Very "free book" vibes.

The main story about 13yo Josh and the missing sister (Josh's mom) was fairly gripping-- it's why I kept reading! I cared for Josh and worried about him; I wanted to know what happened to him and I couldn't quit without knowing he was going to be okay.

Problems I had:

#1 random flashback chapters to childhood summers that serve no purpose except to be "filler." An argument could be made that they provide background/context, but this could have been accomplished more superiorly by staying in the "now" with a memory or retelling of a childhood story to a friend. The switching back was yawn and messy.

#2 the boyfriend "Blaze." He's not a real/authentic man; it's almost as if KL has never met an adult man before... Blaze is the kind of man I'd expect my 14.5 yo niece to write.

My eyes hurt from rolling in the back of my head so much. Blaze is that ridiculous/absurd cliche dude from a romance novel but worse. I wouldn't want to date this guy. He says things like "we'll drink fireball whisky and fuck like teenagers... you keep that bed warm for me okay baby?" gag.

Every main character (except Josh and Olivia's best friend) are dumb and do so many dumb things. They're all ostrich's with their heads in the sand. You might call them... "blonde." While Blaze is the least interesting (shallow/cardboard) Olivia isn't much better. Her parents are atrocious. Yikes. Dictionary definition of "dysfunctional family" and "codependent"

I found myself actually sticking my finger in my throat and making gagging noises. This book definitely brought out my maturity.

#3 the book takes a random ("filler") sharp left and turns into a "romance" book for a chapter in a half. It's all the annoying overdone troupe with overly descriptive sex scenes that had me hitting the "skip ahead button" as hard as I could.

Yet (YET!!!) the part of the story about "what happened to Josh and Lily" is compelling.

******SUMMARY******* (the interesting storyline):

When Olivia was in college, her 16yo sister Lily became pregnant with Olivia's then 21yo boyfriend's baby and ran away. Somehow this 21yo isn't arrested or anything... (I know, this is already a hard sell, isn't it?)

Anyway, 14 years later, while 30-something Olivia is dumping her current boyfriend Blaze (she's straight up throwing his clothes out the window and onto the lawn--do people actually do this?) a car pulls up, drops off a young teen, and leaves. The teen is 13yo Josh, Lily's son and Olivia's nephew (that she's never met but knew existed).

Right away Olivia & her BFF realize something is 'wrong' with Josh; he can't communicate due to traumatic brain injury. Unable to speak/read/write, Josh can't explain what happened, how he got there, where Lily went, etc.

Olivia first reaches out to her college-ex (who she had been stalking on social media--the one that got away, sigh) only to learn he actually wasn't the baby's father. I guess that explains why he wasn't arrested!

Meanwhile, Olivia can't understand why her father would tell her such a cruel lie... Nevertheless, Olivia trudges on, in search for the truth while trying to help Josh "talk."

Things quickly become more unsettling when Josh sees a photo of Olivia's father (his grandfather) and starts screaming "bad man! bad man!"

Eventually, Olivia finds Lily, we learn what happened to Josh to cause his brain injury, and why Olivia/Lily's father is a "bad man."

Thank you to the author, NetGalley, and Lake Union Publishing for an Advanced Reader Copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Publishing July 6th, 2021, No More Words is the first of Kerry Lonsdale's new trilogy that should surely be on everyone's radar this summer.  The story follows a family and their secrets, dysfunction, and betrayal. The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat, eager to find out what happens next. Kerry Lonsdale's books have the perfect balance of mystery, thrill, and romance, and this book is no exception!!

Most of the burning questions were answered by the end of the book, but there are a few loose ends that need to be tied. I'm excited to see how the story comes together over the next two books in the series. Some family members we only got a glimpse of--can't wait to get to know them more in books 2 and 3!!

Given that I am a fan of Kerry Lonsdale and will read anything she writes, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this novel. I had heard great things about it and it lived up to the hype.

I was riveted as soon as Josh showed up at Olivia's house. I wanted to know what had really happened and it was so interesting watching Olivia peel the layers from the very little Josh was giving her. I enjoyed learning about Olivia's experiences at the Whitman's house every summer and how things unfolded with that. Olivia was a tough nut to crack, so it was interesting to see how she developed her trust issues. I also would have loved to see the drawings that were described throughout, as well as Olivia's graphic novel characters.

There were so many interesting twists and turns throughout this novel that will keep readers guessing from one page to the next. I already want to get my hands on the next book in the series!

Movie casting ideas:
Amber: Nikki Reed
Charlotte: Madeleine Stowe

Author Kerry Lonsdale has kicked off her latest trilogy with a gripping story of family, deception, and a slew of complicated relationships. No More Words is centered around Olivia, the oldest of three siblings, haunted by nightmares and by the emotional and physical distance she’s put between herself and her younger brother and sister. An unexpected visitor sends Olivia on a mad dash to find her estranged sister, unearthing long-buried secrets and painful memories that threaten any hope of Olivia accepting love and finding peace. This is a finely-crafted and complex story that combines suspense, family drama, and romance that will hook readers from the first page, and keep them up all night! I’ll be waiting impatiently for the next book in this compelling series!

I'm embarassed to say that I've had the Everything trilogy by Lonsdale for AGES as I had heard nothing but good things about it and now, after reading NO MORE WORDS, I understand why people rave about her writing. And OMG, THE FAMILY DRAMA. This feels like a light contemporary domestic thriller... and kind of exactly what I needed at this moment. The Carson family has got a lot going on! What would you do if your 13 year old nephew, whom you had never met, showed up at your door all of the sudden? He also has difficulty communicating so much patience is needed and the quest to find your sister (who ran away at 16) begins... but in this quest is a deluge of family secrets and we get to learn about them all.

Olivia is a fun character. She definitely resonated with me in certain ways and I enjoyed watching her and Josh's relationship grow. You just can't help but fall in love with Josh too - my heart. I'm not going to say much more as I think you should just read this and find all the goodies layered within. This is a page turner and a great way to lose yourself for an evening. A fantastic first in a series novel that has me very curious where it will go from here.

This was so good!! This had me interested from the very beginning and I could not put this down! I needed to know what happened, and did not see the end coming. I kept guessing, and guessed wrong.

The story starts with the Carson kids spending their summers at a lake with family friends while their parents are working. It alternates back and forth between when they are kids and present day when Olivia Carson’s nephew Josh, shows up at her house claiming his mom is “gone”. Olivia hasn’t seen her sister since she ran away, pregnant, at 16. How will she find her sister? Lots of family drama and secrets come out.

I loved Olivia’s relationship with Blaze. And how she would do anything to help keep Josh safe and find her sister, despite her lack of a relationship with her. Olivia finds out many things about her past and learns how important her family really is to her.

I cannot wait for the sequel to this!

What’s better than a new Kerry Lonsdale novel? The first in a new trilogy!

Another Kerry Lonsdale gem of a read, No More Words is packed full of family secrets, twists and turns.

Olivia Carson’s younger sister ran away in her teen years when she found out she was pregnant and her parents weren’t supportive, and Olivia hasn’t seen her since then. Until the day the child, now a teenager, turns up on her doorstep-without his mother. Which begs the question, where is Lily and what happened to her? And Josh, who has difficulty talking, struggles to explain what he knows.

As the mystery unfolds, we understand more of the past, of Olivia’s regrets, and why she struggles to allow emotional closeness with those around her.

I wouldn’t wish Olivia’s family on anyone, but what a fun page-turner. A fast thrilling read. Enjoyed this one so much!

There’s a reason Kerry Lonsdale is a bestseller. Page turners full of emotional drama, family secrets and mystery. Thoroughly recommend!

Simply outstanding! No More Words was a great start to another great series by Kerry Lonsdale. I inhaled this book as quickly as my eyes would let me read. Literally, I couldn't read fast enough. It was engaging from the first page and kept me intrigued all the way through.

We meet the Carson siblings - - Olivia, Lucas and Lily - - in 1995 when they are being dropped off to spend the summer with family friends at their lake house. The book then moves back and forth between the present and times in the past. The main character, Olivia has wonderful memories about time spent at the Whitman's lake house. Unfortunately, present day is difficult and she's struggling to find her way. As the book unfolds, you wonder what must have happened in their childhood to have put such a rift between these siblings and to create so much dysfunction in their lives.

This is such a well developed storyline. I look forward to seeing how it extends to the next two books. One thing I really was happy with regarding this book was that it didn't end in a true cliffhanger. It gave the reader a "for now ending" that leaves you satisfied with how things ended for the main character, Olivia. However, it's clear that there is a great deal more to be told regarding her two siblings. I can't wait to see what Ms. Lonsdale does with the remainder of this series.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to review this book and the opinions contained within are my own.

No matter what happens in your life, the love for your siblings can't be changed by anything. when her sister gone missing, there was a big hole left in Olivia's world and even if they weren't the best of friends, she still feels guilty about what happened to make Lily to run away and hide all these years.
It's a heartbreaking story about family and to what extend the trust in that family can overlook so many bad events or unwanted moments.
I loved that we get a happy moment at the end after so much turmoil and suspense.
I'm looking foreword to the next books in the trilogy.

A domestic family drama with tons of action and characters with multiple issues, this book was one that was hard to put down. Olivia has relationship issues in that she doesn’t really know what she wants, but she knows that she really needs a relationship. When the story begins, she is livid with Blaze, her lover, and is kicking him out of her house. The emotions are stormy throughout the book, but no scenes were more tumultuous than this one. We also have Charlotte, the mom who is a successful real estate agent, but not so great at being a mother or a wife. Dwight, her venture capitalist husband who always wanted to be elected to office, is a people pleaser who will do anything to obtain his goal. I think the most flawed and probably least developed character was Lucas. I didn’t learn much about him except that he went to juvie, he was a hot mess and he had a hot temper. That was enough to set the stage for a lot of action in the book! Finally, there is the duo of Lily and Josh. Lily is the baby sister of Olivia and Lucas, and she left home as a pregnant teen. Josh is the result of her pregnancy. For years, Olivia has tried to find Lily, only to have Josh show up one day on doorsteps, with a duffle, no explanation and no words because he can’t speak. That’s mostly what this book is about, a characterization, a painting, if you will, of a family that has so many problems that it was a like a soap opera in print. The plot was well-written, but it definitely took back stage to the characters. I was mesmerized by the whole mystery of Lily and why she left home without getting in contact with anyone. I was captured by the death on the beach that Olivia’s family may or may not have been involved in. Ultimately, the entire book was a wild ride that had me captivated because of its riveting themes of family secrets, deception, and even murder. I loved this book and was so sad when it ended, so I am already looking forward to book #2 in this new series. Fans of domestic drama, mystery and even romance will be delighted to read this book!

Minutes after an intense breakup a random car pulls up infront of Olivia’s house dropping off a boy. Not just any boy, but Olivia’s Nephew. Josh’s mother has been missing for 14 years, and Olivia’s mind has come to the worse. Where is my sister and why is only her son here?

Olivia’s younger sister Lily became pregnant prematurely. Her parents forced either Adoption or Abortion. Lily, runs away from home, due to the stress and never returns.

I think this is the fastest I’ve read a 300 page book. It DEFINITELY kept me hooked but there was a few things I was like, really?🤨😐

For instance…. The romance was POINTLESS. Yes, Blaze was cute. But that sex scene? Come on I didn’t need that.

Josh was a little cutie. And my heart hurt for him. A boy with brain problems that struggles to form words and recollect numbers, he sure did help a lot with trying to find his mother. Olivia also did a VERY great job at assisting when he would lash out and not be impatient when Josh would struggle. I think Josh was the best part of this book and was the ONLY thing that really stuck to the synopsis. Working with a kid with a disability is a struggle, but I think that’s really what made the book different from all other “missing person” tropes. But, not gonna lie, at several times in the book I had to look at the back to remember what I’m reading again because I feel all the scenes with Josh really circled back to the synopsis. Everything else just didn’t really make sense.

Lucas was kinda annoying and I just felt like he wasn’t needed in the book. He was cocky and served nothing but popping in to help with a random situation.

The ending… what was that.. I’m sorry but 😐😐😐😐 was literally my face with the ending. I needed MORE and that gave me hallmark ending vibes. Like where was the gabbagoo?!?! (TIKTOK reference anyone?)

Those were the main reasons why I gave it a three star. If it was a bit more of a thriller my rating would have gone up. Like I said, my attention was grabbed most definitely. But there was a lot of small detail and fluff missing to exceed my liking.

One of the many things I love about Kerry Lonsdale's books are that they are sometimes unsettling to read...and I mean that in the very best way! This one is about three siblings: Olivia, Lucas, and Lily. This is one dysfunctional family--to say the least--and in the present Olivia is shocked when when Lily (who's been estranged from them since her pregnancy at 16) reappears in their life in the form of her son who turns up at her house with a brain injury that causes him to "lose" words, not able to articulate what he means. So finding Lily is going to be difficult. Alternating between the present and the past, when the kids spent many happy summers at their friends' lake house, Lonsdale paints the picture of a family of lost souls whose many mistakes follow them and cause pain and suffering. But Lonsdale is also an expert at the healing of families and the love that is possible when mistakes are revealed and admitted; redemption is always the goal. This one's a tear-jerker for sure but I was delighted to see it's the first in a new series!

5* Broken Family Stars

This is the first book in the Carson Family Trilogy and is Olivia’s story. Olivia is the eldest child born to Charlotte and Dwight. She has a younger brother Lucas and sister Lily.

The story alternates between the past and the present. We are introduced to the three siblings in the summer of 1995 where they are spending their summer vacation with the Whitman family. They are very close and protect each other fiercely especially Lilly who is not treated well by her father. After many happy summers spent there, cracks begin to develop between the siblings when secrets and betrayal present themselves and the past starts to unravel.

There was so much family drama and heartache. The authors writing was superb, the flawed characters realistic with some of them likeable and some not!

I am anxious to read the next book as there are answers that need to be addressed and solved and a family in desperate need for reconciliation. I loved this fast-paced domestic drama which did not disappoint.

Expected so much more for the rating. Superficial characters, rushed through storyline. It was an easy read but it’s a no from me.

You never even find out why mother & son got lost. Storyline collapses (what storyline there was). Disappointing read.
