I won’t conceal the fact that when I found that inflatable pool in my backyard I was surprised to a degree. Inflatable pools, as a rule, contain water, you see, and everyone knows that cats don’t like water all that much. In fact we hate it. But Odelia had sworn she’d teach us how to swim, and she was keeping that promise, come hell or high… water.
As if that wasn’t enough, Dooley and I were suddenly set upon by an irate pigeon, dive-bombing us each time he caught us in his crosshairs. And it wasn’t as if we could afford the distraction, as Odelia had taken on a new case, this one relating to a woman who went missing twenty years ago, and whose exact lookalike had suddenly turned up murdered in a local farmer’s field. Was the dead woman the missing woman? But then why did she look exactly like she did when she disappeared twenty years ago, not having aged one bit? It was a mystery Odelia found hard to resist.
So there you have it: in between attacks from an angry bird, a mysterious cold case, strange messages found inside a goatherd figurine, a few instances of near-drowning, and an embarrassing mishap causing me to lose a large swath of fur around my midsection, it was all I could do to stay afloat, as it were, and assist my human. And just to put your mind at ease, I can assure you that no animals were harmed in the making of this book, except yours truly. Then again, I have no one to blame but myself, and in the end all’s well that ended well, and I will live to narrate another book.
Nic has a background in political science and before being struck by the writing bug worked odd jobs around the world (including but not limited to massage therapist in Mexico, gardener in Italy, restaurant manager in India, and Berlitz teacher in Belgium).
When he’s not writing he enjoys curling up with a good (comic) book, watching British crime dramas, French comedies or Nancy Meyers movies, sampling pastry (apple cake!), pasta and chocolate (preferably the dark variety), twisting himself into a pretzel doing morning yoga, going for a run, and spoiling his big red tomcat Tommy.
He lives with his wife (and aforementioned cat) in a small village smack dab in the middle of absolutely nowhere and is probably writing his next ‘Mysteries of Max’ book right now.
This one was really good!!! Had a feeling who it might be but still kept me guessing. Ohhh poor Max… he does try. This is such a great series… always has me chuckling. Happy Reading:)
I have become addicted to this series. Within two weeks I read from book one through book 26. If you like any cozy mysteries and cats , I recommend this series. A small town reporter, her mom , and grandmother have the ability to communicate with cats so she uses her cats to help solve murders. The cats will walk around town talking to other cats, dogs, and other animals to see what they have heard from their humans/owners. Imagine Mayberry but with cats standing outside the grocery store and barber shop gossiping about what has been going on in the town. This series constantly has me laughing out loud (chuckling). I truly recommend this series, just don’t say Max is fat and orange. He says he is big bone blorange.-Blond with a touch of orange.
** Disclaimer: I don’t believe this series is suitable fo minors because it has some bad language.

Laughing myself to sleep nights with Max & friends is just fun.Who wouldn't want to end the day this way? Also there's a little mystery to go along with it. This was one of my favorites because the banter between the cats as well as their Predicaments they'd gotten into was so hilarious! Love it when I can't figure out who the bad guy is halfway through a book as well. Very enjoyable. Make sure you say your prayers Before you start these books at night As you'll be slapping yourself on the cheek for " 1 more page ".
Another exciting adventure for the sleuthing kitties. In this story, the body of a young woman turns up in a ditch who bears a startling resemblance to a young woman who disappeared twenty years earlier. It couldn't be the missing woman ... could it?
This is a tough investigation for the police, the cats, and the Neighborhood Watch, the latest bad idea conceived by Vesta and Scarlett. Everyone keeps getting in someone else's way, causing chaos on the journey to the truth.
I've loved all the Max books. They never fail to make me laugh. Very well written by a person that loves cats and the mysteries are great. I will say that the author seems to spend a tremendous amount of time watching TV and has a wicked sense of humor. I highly recommend this series especially to all the crazy cat people. I can't wait for the next book to see what will happen next.
The thing I love most about the Max series is how normal everyone's lives are except for the fact that the Poole women can communicate with their cats. I will always encourage people to start with the first book and read through. People and animals grow and change. New people come into their lives, personalities grow and the cats grow more human like.
One of the best stories about Max and friends. Hilarious in places and scary in others. The swimming lessons were a hoot and the pigeon was funny. Odelia,Max, and the rest of the gang solved the mystery with a little help from the Watch.
I really loved this new Max mystery! Great story line and very interesting. As always the cats were so entertaining. Loved all the characters. Wonderful series!
A missing wife, an unexpected find, and a barnstorming pigeon all combine to create a new great tale. The watch Friday with law enforcement and crime gets solved
This story was interesting, what with the factory being close to an actual candy name today. The ending was interesting, or I should say the epilogue was interesting by completing the story.
Fun mystery with poor Max enduring all sorts of trials while trying to help his humans solve a murder and a 20 year old disappearance. Very entertaining.
Max, my favorite overstuffed blorange cat, has done it again.. With the help of his cohorts he solves every case.. If you like stories from the animal's point of view Nic Saint 's books can't be beat..
