Pretty Good...
I thought it was cute how Royal would continue to come into Yael's music store and bond more and more with her over music. And they were really gettin' down to some classics! Not really that much drama in their relationship once they finally got together, other than Royal's ex, a slight bit of discord between Royal, his mother, and Yael. Yael's mother was pinching my nerves for a min, but once Yael finally broke down and told her what was up, Mama Carey got right. Not understanding why that lil confrontation/conversation didn't happen sooner. Maybe because Yael kept things close to her chest, like Mama Carey. I would have loved to see what that thing with Yael's father was all about. Like, what was his problem?!
I really loved how Royal always had Yael's back, even with his mother. I thought that regardless of her relationship with Royal's ex, she should have behaved with a little more maturity than she did. It'll never cease to amaze me how folks will overlook toxic behavior of people they consider family. I mean she totally ignored what her own son was trying to tell her about the ex. Anyway, glad Royal's mother got herself together though and apologized to Yael.
Royal and Yael were so good good together, and being able to vibe with each over music was an extra delight. I loved how they supported each other in their careers. And even though Yael tried to do a small bit of self-sabotage, she took heed to her cousin/bestie's advice and worked it out. The jam/writing sessions in the studio with Royal and his artists was another special treat. I love seeing the writing/musical process go down, and gushed at some of the songs that had a personal connection to the love he shared with Yael. D. Rose is pretty good at writing about relationships involved in the music industry and does a great job incorporating lyrics and romance.
