From the internationally bestselling artist Kerby Rosanes, an extraordinary coloring book celebrating some of the incredible animals and landscapes that are disappearing around the globe
Fragile World is a coloring book to savor, exploring fifty-six endangered, vulnerable, and threatened animals and landscapes—from the Tapanuli orangutan to the hawksbill turtle, from Philippine bat caves to the Baltic Sea.
The illustrations are intricate, detailed, and unforgettable, both magisterial and whimsical. And the result is a stunning tribute to Mother Nature. Fragile World is a coloring experience that is at once vintage Kerby and unlike any other.
Philippines-based illustrator Kerby Rosanes works mainly with ordinary black fine liners to magically illustrate his “doodle” world. Considers his art as a personal hobby which turned out to be his part-time freelance work after being recognized by various design blogs, international magazines and online art communities. Most of his works are characterized by whimsical lines, patterns, characters and little elements that are spontaneously combined to create massive compositions depicting his everyday inspirations or scenes from his quirky imagination.
Beautiful Illustrations Showcasing Endangered Species Worldwide
The detailed drawings in this exquisite coloring book for adults highlight the species throughout the world that are endangered or vulnerable. Each of the fifty-six drawings has a paragraph at the end of the book giving information about the animals. I found reading about the animals enhanced the enjoyment of looking at the intricate illustrations.
This coloring book can be enjoyed by just looking at the wonderful pictures, but if you feel creative, coloring the pictures adds to the pleasure. In this stressful time of illness and Covid restrictions it’s a good way to escape for awhile, use your creative urges, and in addition learn about these special animals and habitats.
Although all the illustrations are wonderful, my favorite was of the Hooded Grebs from Argentina. I love the way Rosanes builds in an appropriate background in this case flying geese. This book provides a pleasant way to relax and to learn more about our very special world. I highly recommend it.
I received this book from Penguin Random House for this review.
This is such a lovely coloring book! I am a very big fan of intricate coloring pages. As an adult who colors to relax, I want pictures that are interesting visually and will take time to color and style appropriately.
This book has that in spades.
The designs are lovely and represent a wide variety of creatures across many different biomes, categories, and species. They are designed for a more sophisticated or experienced colorist - this is not your child's coloring book, although if your child is anything like mine, she'll want to steal it for the beautiful depictions of fanciful animals like the cover image turtle with a reef world on his back or the extreme close-up of a honey bee with a field of flowers on its back. There are also very realistic depictions of animals in their habitats and with their families.
It's a very lovely homage to the natural world and a fabulous way to while away the afternoon!
Thank you to the author/artist and the publisher for my obligation-free review copy.
This coloring book is stunning. I cannot stop looking at it. It is like come of the animals in the illustrations are looking right at you. It is truly captivating to see. I am in love with the owl page! In this stunning coloring book you will get to gaze into 56 illustrations of animals and landscapes; all of which are in risk of being lost. That really struck a cord with me. We need to do what we can to protect these animals and places. Hopefully you will get inspired to take action and to help join preservation causes because it will take all of us to help save these amazing creatures and places.
I have been so busy with work and life that I have not had a change to dive in and color yet. That is on the agenda for the weekend. I cannot wait to spend some time with these amazing animals and bringing them into color!
I highly recommend this coloring book for all levels of interest and skill!
I received this as a gift while recovering from foot surgery, and I absolutely love it. It's illustrations are so detailed and gorgeous. The paper quality is pretty good for layering colored pencils or light watercolor. I wouldn't recommend regular or alcohol markers; they will be bleed dry. Most of the animals illustrations are of endangered species, which I appreciate. I was surprised I didn't recognize a few because there so rare.
Overall, I loved this coloring book. I'll flip through pages time-to time for inspiration into my own art. If I wanted to watercolor, use mixed mediums, or alcohol marker I printed them on my desired paper. I didn't want to ruin the illustrations on the next page. I didn't care for the fact illustrations were printed on both sides of the pages; it limited my art medium choice.
