Holy Moley! Now I need book 4!

This is book 3, if you haven't read the first two then do them first. I personally recommend starting each of the books in this series early in the day, or you'll end up staying up all night to finish them (I learned the hard way). They just keep getting better and each book has gotten harder to put down... Finished this one in a day and now I have to wait for the next to be released. AR Colbert has created a believable "New America" in a socialist/communist society with such a the level of realism to it that is more captivating and a little scary. I don't want to give anything away, so if you like the dystopian genre with spying, romance, and plenty of suspense then you will love this one!

Parents: this is free of bad language or overly graphic violence, there is romance (mainly kissing) but in this book there is also an older male predator, attempted rape and allusions to his past deeds are made but no real details are given. I would still be okay with my middle school kids reading this but it is more of a PG13 due to some of that content. The narrator does a great job and was fun to listen to.

Well, there was a twist I never saw coming.

One of them I'd anticipated, but the final one? Yowza.

I'm glad that Claren grew in this one, although she still had some naïveté there that had me wanting to shake her.

The first twist I anticipated. When it happened, I shouted "I KNEW IT" into my empty apartment. The final twist... no, I didn't see that coming in the slightest.

Time for the penultimate book!

My goodness! Just when I thought things couldn't get anymore exciting or dramatic, Ms. Colbert went and cranked it up another 10 notches. 😱

We meet and lose people. Those we thought were traitor turned out to be on Claren's side and then we discover a massive mole in the midst!

I'm very frustrated with the ending. Because… sooo much. Very happy to have book #4 on hand because I MUST start it right after writing this!!

As before, world building & narration is excellent.

Ta ta friends 🙂

My star ratings include these 5 elements:

1★ story line

1★ engaging characters

1★ use of world building/descriptions

1★ narration or editing

1★ the ending

This unique series adds more excitement with each book. Claren is growing as an individual and a Leader in this society and is excelling. She is becoming a strong and confident woman and yet there is some darkness threatening to peek through after all the challenges she has faced. Looking forward to the next book in the series to see what Claren will do next!

I feel like this book series keeps getting progressively worse with each new release. I’m confused about the positive reviews. To put it simply, it just was just really boring. For that reason, I will no longer be continuing the series.

The story line is good, I struggle with the main character. But, that is only because she is very naive, I hope she grows out of this in the last book.

Definitely took a huge break while reading this. Just didn’t captivate me very much. The FMC is just cliche and i think I’m okay not finishing the series. It’s YA and I think that’s about it.
