Lost Harbor, Alaska #6
Love at First Light
One week can change everything…
Private investigator Ethan James has had one too many brushes with death. But his newest case should be simple—it’s just a birth-parents search in stunning Lost Harbor, Alaska, helping out the local police chief. But as everyone knows, strange things happen in the tiny remote town. From day one, everything seems to go wrong. The last straw? He suddenly has a sidekick he never expected—the super sexy, endlessly quirky local baker.
Nothing is more important to Sweet Harbor Bakery owner Jessica Dixon than her friends—especially her BFF, Police Chief Maya Badger. When Maya has to drop a side investigation close to her heart, Jessica is determined to prove she has her back. Of course, she knows nothing about investigating. But she has her knowledge of the area, her uncanny intuition, and of course, her trusty crystal. Oh, and the help of the ridiculously gorgeous but entirely too cynical Ethan James. What could go wrong?
When these opposites attract, Jessica may come down to Earth long enough to find love, while Ethan might learn to trust his heart instead of his head…if they make it out of the wilderness alive.

I got this book in exchange for a honest review. This book had me hooked from the beginning. The storyline was so, so good and I loved the characters!!! Not only was it about finding the truth about someone's background but also how the two main characters really found themselves with help from one another. This truly was a magical (not paranormal kind) book and I honestly would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a wonderful book. I have not read the prior books yet but after reading this one I want to so much! This book took me two days to read but only because I had other things to do. As soon as I was free to do something I picked this book right back up. Buy this book! You will not regret it!!! I can't wait for Maya's story to come out. Thank you Jennifer Bernard for giving me am advanced copy. You gained a new reader/fan for life!

Ethan James isn’t a stranger to Lost Harbor, his job as a PI having brought him here before. His latest case from the police chief, Maya Badger, is a little different than most. But Ethan trusts logic, facts, cynicism and common sense to help him do the job. As for love, his many brushes with death have taught him that matters of the heart aren’t even a consideration for him.
Jessica Dixon, baker and owner of Sweet Harbor Bakery and B&B takes a completely different approach to life with her sunny disposition, trusting her life experiences and intuition to guide her. But she quickly becomes invested in helping Ethan find the family of the fifteen-year-old girl who just appeared one day has become a part of Lost Harbor’s community, as well as an intriguing mystery. And did I mention Jessica is “Team Romance" all the way?
Bernard weaves together a dash of mystery, a dose of steam, and a boatload of chemistry into an exciting, compelling, all-the-feels story that is not to be missed! It’s impossible not to fall in love with Lost Harbor, it's quirky townsfolk, stunning scenery and inviting atmosphere. And once you visit, you’ll never want to leave.
Ethan and Jessica may be complete opposites but they’re absolutely perfect together. Their banter is funny and lighthearted, and the chemistry between these two creates it’s own Aurora Borealis. They won me over in no time at all, and each moment I spent with them I loved them more.
Find a quiet spot and settle in for your visit to Lost Harbor. You’ll love everything about this fun, captivating, heartfelt read!

Loved Ethan (James)! I “met” this character in a previous series by Ms. Bernard, he’s a brother to one of her heroines, and in a previous Lost Harbor story, but it was such fun to read his back story. Boy, howdy, it is a doozy. He is back in Lost Harbor working as a private investigator at the behest of Sheriff Maya Badger. I won’t retell the story – the author does a much better job than I ever could.
Through a series of, let’s call them “unfortunate” events, he meets up with Jessica Dixon. To say it’s a ‘meet-cute’ would be an understatement. Ethan is having a VERY bad day…or is that night…? Hard to tell. Jess is wonderful! The perfect foil to Ethan. Loved, loved, loved the banter between them; it was light and fresh and at times very touching. Great reading about their friendship/working relationship/much more.
There were a couple of events that sorta resolved a bit quickly for me but it doesn’t detract from the story at all. There’s a mystery (about another character we have met in previous books), intrigue, bad guys, and some nice guys! And much snarkiness with all the characters. Loved that. Most of all, though, I enjoyed how strong Jess was – even at her most vulnerable – and the same for Ethan. I loved how he would protect Jess at all costs, no matter what their adventures threw at them.
Loved this book – the antics of these folks in Lost Harbor keep getting better and better. And I’m hoping that the hints at the end of this story are what’s coming up next. Can’t wait!

Ethan James is a private investigator that has been in Lost Harbor months ago helping to protect a celebrity. Now he’s come back by request of Sheriff Maya to try to discover the past of one of the citizens. A young girl was befriended wandering around the town. She didn’t know who she was or where she came from. All she could remember was a cabin in the woods & the guy who enslaved her. Could Ethan figure it out?
Jessica Dixon was Maya’s best friend. Maya had been there anytime Jessica needed someone. When Maya was going to have to put a case dear to her heart on hold, Jessica jumped at the chance to pay Maya back for all she’d done. Jessica is a bit of a “free child” so this manages to create several funny situations. Can she manage to push herself out of her comfort zone enough to help Ethan?
I really enjoyed this story. Ethan & Jessica’s personality’s are so different & far apart you have to figure they’ll either completely hate each other or fall in love. The plot has done unexpected twists & turns that keep you totally involved. The touches of mystery & suspense keep you on your toes.
Jennifer Bernard has created a wonderful series set in Lost Harbor Alaska. Each story draws on the same group of characters but each book can easily be read as a stand alone. What I love is that readers get an update on the lives of previously featured characters with each new book.

Love at First Light is book in the Lost Harbor, Alaska series by Jennifer Bernard and oh my each book is better than the last!
Ethan James, PI comes back to Lost Harbor at the request of the police chief Maya Badger to help find SG (Spruce Grouse) missing parents. He has had lots of brushes with death and this last time it has changed him in ways he isn’t prepared for once he lands in Lost Harbor because we know, nothing is quite what it seems...
Jessica Dixon, baker extraordinaire, best friend to Maya is determined to help her when she has to drop the investigation for SG’s parents. She knows nothing about investigating but extracts a commitment from Ethan to help.
What happens next is...intuition, knowing the lay of the land, crystals, opposite attraction, having your back and trusting your heart will lead you to where you are supposed to be...

Ethan James finally gets his HEA. Longtime fans of Bernard’s writing will remember him from the Rockwell Legacy series. He’s the perfect addition to Lost Harbor and Bernard gives him the HEA he deserves.

Love at First Light
Another great story from Jennifer Bernard and her Lost Harbor, Alaska series. This book brings in PI Ethan James and baker Jessica. She believes in true love and magic and he doesn't believe in either.

Do not judge baker-extraordinaire Jess Dixon by the “fluffiness” of her goods! Private Investigator Ethan James makes that mistake when he first meets Jess from the other side of the bars, and I do not mean lemon bars. Ethan comes to Lost Harbor to complete an investigation for Chief Maya Badger that she cannot finish, enjoy some fresh air then head back to Los Angeles to get married and switch careers. His first impression of Jess is as a quirky, intellectually lightweight beauty, nothing his very serious self would ever be attracted to. But they say weird things happen in Lost Souls Wilderness….
What a wonderful story of two people who overcame traumas in their youth, but in quite different ways. Childhood cancer directed Ethan to be serious, fact-driven, and fatalistic. The fact that he has had some brushes with death only reinforce that demeanor. Jess’s trauma was not health-related but “heart-related” – the child of divorced parents, both who seem flighty, Jess is forced to make a decision at an early age that left a deep scar. But instead of despair, Jess trusts her crystal, her intuition, and the hope that every day will be better. Jess may be an eternal optimist, but much like her Ranier cherry buckwheat scones, there is complexity under the appealing façade.
Ms. Bernard created some fantastic characters in her books, but Jess really struck a chord with me. This Wonder Woman did not wear her “hero” by kicking butt and flashing gold bracelets. No, she just lived her life the best way she could – being a kind supportive friend and doing what she loved, be it baking treats or piloting a floatplane (which was super-cool!) She was the perfect partner for Ethan, a character you just wanted to smile more. Of course, the writing, plotting and story was as great as ever – this author has THE knack for gifting us with memorable, enjoyable books. But this trip to Lost Harbor really resonated with me; I will not forget Jess and Ethan’s journey to their HEA!

I loved Ethan and Jessica’s love story in Love at First Light by Jennifer Bernard, book six in her Lost Harbor, Alaska series. PI Ethan James had one too many brushes with death but this latest one is supposed to be a piece of cake; help the police chief in beautiful Lost Harbor, Alaska with a birth-parents search. But everyone knows strange things happen in this remote town. From the day Ethan arrives, everything seems to go wrong. Getting an unexpected assistant, the super sexy, quirky local baker is just one more wrong strange happening. The only thing more important to Jessica Dixon than owning Sweet Harbor Bakery, are her friends, especially her best friend Police Chief Maya Badger. When a family emergency forces Maya to drop a side investigation that is important and dear to her, Jessica decides to use her Nancy Drew skills and help Ethan. She might have investigative skills but she knows the area like the back of her hand, has a fairly accurate intuition, and then there’s her trusty crystal which has never steered her wrong. Having these two opposites work together, fitting together like pieces of a puzzle, should mean nothing will go wrong. As I said, strange things happen in Lost Harbor, so of course anything that can go wrong does until Jessica learns to trust herself and Ethan learns to trust his heart. Now to make sure that once they survive this wild search in the wilderness that these two realize their true feelings.
Ms. Bernard wrote an amazing, emotional, humorous, and magical story that is not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with kindness, magnetic attraction, off the charts chemistry, amusing conversations, and endearing characters, with the help of a little magic, pushing Jessica and Ethan out of their comfort zones and finding a forever love. I highly recommend Love at First Light to other readers and can’t wait for the next story in this series.

Every time I think I have a favorite couple in Lost Harbor, Alaska, Jennifer Bernard releases a new book and I fall in love all over again: with Lost Harbor, its residents, and, of course, her newest couple. Ethan James and Jessica Dixon couldn’t be more different, but they sizzle and charm in LOVE AT FIRST LIGHT, book 6 in the Lost Harbor, Alaska series.
This is Ethan James’s third visit to Lost Harbor but it definitely didn’t go as expected. Hired by Police Chief Maya Badger to help her investigate the origins of the mysterious SG, he expects the same hospitality as his previous visits. After a night in jail, highlighted by the breakfast goodies brought to Maya by her best friend and bake, Jessica Dixon, Ethan’s trip starts spiraling out of his control. Where Ethan is serious, Jessica is seen by everyone as someone with their head in the clouds and living in her own bubble. When Maya is forced to drop the investigation due to unexpected circumstances, Jessica decides to step in and try to not only help her friend, but also prove to everyone dhow capable she really is. Ethan puts aside his reservations and decides to go forward with Jessica.
When the investigation leads them to Lost Souls Wilderness, the two find out how capable Jessica is, and how compatible they actually are. I loved this couple and their interactions; I laughed out loud at their banter and the way they balanced each other out.
Bernard took two unexpected characters and fit them together seamlessly. This novel had a little bit of everything: romance, mystery, magic, chemistry, and characters that are easy to love. On top of all this, the story made me feel good. I can’t wait for the next in the series because there are still some mysteries to wrap up. Find a good place to hole up with this one, once you start you will lose track of time.
Thanks to the Publisher for an advanced copy of this novel. All opinions are my own.

Love At First Light has everything that makes the Lost Harbor series so magical and fun to return to over and over again.
While trying to track down clues to the unsolved mystery of S.G.'s parents (a local teen who escaped living in the woods from a hunter), Ethan and Jessica dive into a fifteen year old cold case that leads them into the mystical woods where strange things tend to happen.
Ethan James is hired to help solve S.G.'s cold case. It's not Ethan's first time in Lost Harbor, but he's not a local like Jessica Dixon either. When Maya Badger, the local police chief, hires Ethan to help dig up clues, since he his a trained private investigator, Maya was expecting to help him out, but she is unfortunately called away. In Ethan's line of work, he's used to working alone, so having Maya leave isn't exactly a hardship, but when the quirky baker, who always smells like sugar and sunshine, shows up and offers to help he doesn't know what skills Jessica can provide in an investigation except warm cookies.
Ethan is cynical, jaded, and a little grouchy, but he's also the perfect grounded man for Jessica's dreaming personality.
Jessica runs Sweet Harbor Bakery and Bed and Breakfast. Her life is fairly routine and just recently she's been told she lives her life in a bubble. When her best friend Maya has an emergency and has to leave town Jessica sees this as an opportunity to jump in and help out. Pop the bubble and carefully crafted life she lives in to help not only her friend, but help Ethan solve the case he was hired for.
As the two of them head out to find clues, danger closes in and while Ethan is used to the Grim Reaper looking over his shoulder, he doesn't like it looking over Jessica's. The intense connection builds pretty rapidly between them while they both experience an adventure of a lifetime, but can it last if they make it back to civilization?

Ethan James. A cynical, seen it all, burnt out, private investigator who is doing 'one last job' as a favor for his friend, Maya Badger police chief of Lost Harbor Alaska. He's going to try to find S.G.'s parents since that's the only thing S.G. has asked Maya for. His first night there, he's in jail due to an over zealous police officer who has an issue with Ethan hacking into the police department computer database.
Jessica Dixon. A sunny personality who bakes like an Angel, believes people are generally good, and consults her crystal when she has a decision to make, has a problem and she's come to her friend Maya for advice, bearing goodies and very good coffee! Unfortunately, Maya isn't in yet, so she has an interesting conversation with the detainee, Ethan.
When Maya gets called away due to a family issue and tells Ethan she won't be able to work with him for S.G., Jessica figures she and Ethan can help both Maya and S.G., plus get out of Lost Harbor and head out to follow some leads in the wilderness across the bay.
This wonderfully engrossing tale takes a sinister edge as Ethan and Jessica are stranded in the wilderness and have to depend on each other to make it to a top tier getaway hotel only accessible by plane. Now the questions begin...why are they welcomed to the hotel and then locked in a storage room to await the authorities? Who is their hostess and what role does she play in the mystery surrounding S.G. and a plane crash over a decade ago? Will Ethan and Jessica realize they compliment each other?
I really enjoyed this 6th book in the Lost Harbor series. This was not a cliff hanger...although there are questions about the hotel in the wilderness and odd things that go on there. I hope there is a 7th book that will tie all of these ends together...or perhaps there should be a 8th and 9th book too. This series is just so good!

Laugh Out Loud Funny – Jennifer Bernard Rocks!
Love at First Light by Jennifer Bernard might be my favorite Lost Harbor book, second only to the first in the series, Mine Until Moonrise. Ethan James takes his third case in Lost Harbor. Police Chief Maya Badger hired (maybe) Ethan to find out more about S.G. (Spruce Grouse), the mysterious young woman who showed up in Mine Until Moonrise. Maya has a family emergency to deal with after promising S.G. she would investigate S.G.’s past. Because Maya doesn’t want to disappoint S.G., Maya asks Ethan to take over and find out about S.G.’s parents. Since no details on payment have been discussed, Maya gives Ethan a certificate to stay at the Sweet Harbor Bakery and B&B owned by Jessica Dixon, who most people think lives in a cloud with her crystal. Very definitely opposites, sparks flare up immediately between Ethan and Jessica. Let the fun begin! I laughed out loud all through this book. Maybe snorted a few times, too. These two entertain as they worked out their differences, or at least the differences they thought they had, and learned who they really were as individuals. Definitely not who they thought they were. This book started off with a bang and the fun didn’t stop until the end. One of the best prologues and first chapters I’ve ever read. And I like the way the author snuck in a serious current issue regarding Maya. As always, I learned so much more about Alaska. Ethan’s and Jessica’s trek made me realize I’d never make it in the Alaskan wilderness. Well, unless I had my own Ethan. Oh, wait. It was Jessica who saved the day and got them to civilization. I cannot wait until Maya's story, coming up next. Everyone should read this book. Jennifer Bernard rocks!

Love at First Light by Jennifer Bernard is the sixth in her Lost Harbor, Alaska, series, set in the beautiful small town edging the remote Alaskan wilderness. While it does stand alone, there are some recurring characters and a somewhat mysterious overarching storyline that encourage enjoying the whole series.
Overall, Love at First Light is AMAZING. So many smiles and laughs and my heart is soaring! Couldn’t stop turning (swiping?) the pages. Jennifer Bernard's characters charmed me with their realism even when I know they're fictional. Jessica Dixon is the owner of the Lost Harbor bakery and also runs the so-called B&B. She's a woman more in tune with her intuitive side, a firm believer in Team Romance (unlike some of her friends who are clearly Team Sex), and maker of magic in the bakery kitchen. Ethan James (whose sister is the heroine in The Rock, book five of Bernard's Rockwell Legacy series), is a hard(er)-nosed PI. His life has been full of attempts to cut his time on earth short, so he firmly in the common sense camp.
Ethan arrives in Lost Harbor at police chief Maya Badger's behest to work a case for her. The moment he sets foot in town, his life is a series of mishaps ranging from inconvenient to potentially life-threatening. And when Jessica appoints herself his new investigative partner, he's torn between some pesky attraction and slight skepticism at what she, a civilian, can bring to their search. What a delight to see them get to know each other and some of their layers on their literal trek, and see them come to a better shared view for them both.
Love at First Light is a fantastic visit to Lost Harbor, and I can't wait to return again soon!

I received an ARC of this book from the author for my honest review.
Jennifer Bernard never disappoints! I love The Lost Harbor series. Ethan and Jessica were so much fun. We had met them both prior in previous books (Ethan all the way back to the Rockwell Legacy series!) which helps get some particulars out of the way. They may have been opposites, but they made a great team.....in the Wilderness and out.
I have to say I really want to try some of Jessica walnut cinnamon rolls!! And some other of her yummy creations. Would be fun if there was a recipe for them in the back of the book, or a bakery that would just ship them to me, LOL. Anyway, I really enjoyed Jessica's positive nature and how she consulted her crystal for some of those big decisions. I can relate to living in a bubble and not venturing out of your comfort zone. It's something I struggle with and have been getting better about, so it felt like I was part of the book in a weird way. I wish there was a bit more about her decision about the bakery though. It kind of wrapped up with not much fan fare.
Ethan needed a change of pace himself, or more like a change of scenery. He had been to Lost Harbor before to help Padric earlier in the series, so it was good to have him back. I was happy that he wasn't paired with Maya though as they are too similar and that would not have been as fun. He was meant to be with Jessica....just like his vision showed him .Just took him some extra time to see the light through his heart instead of through common sense.
This book ranks at the top of the series for me right along with Gretel and Zander. So much fun. Couldn't put this one down!

Ethan James returns to Lost Harbor, Alaska for his “final” case as a private investigator. Maya Banks, police chief, enlists Ethan’s help in investigating SG’s background. Having recently had yet another brush with death, Ethan has promised his fiancé he would find a job that was a little safer. While he loves his job, he wants to make her happy. So he heads to Alaska, ends up in jail the first night, and then meets Jessica.
Jessica Dixon, the owner of Lost Harbor Bakery and B&B, is in a rut. She’s never been able to make “big” decisions. The Bakery/B&B was dumped on Jessica at 18yrs old. Her mother wanted to explore Big Sur, so she left it to Jessica. It’s all she’s ever known or done. She’s never even been out of Alaska. When the opportunity arises to assist Ethan in his investigation, she jumps at the chance to try something new while avoiding a “big” decision.
Jessica relies on intuition, feelings, and her favorite crystal. Ethan relies on concrete evidence, what he can see, hear, and touch. It was a story that had me laughing out loud and NEEDING to return to Alaska for another adventure! The story surrounding Kelsey left me with a lot of questions, but answered a few more about SG’s past. Jessica and Ethan couldn’t be any more different, but oh so right for each other! They are the perfect match—not soulmates according to Ethan. This is one of the best novels in the series! It captured my attention from the first page. I love how SG, aka Maggie’s, story is a common thread throughout the series. I can’t wait to learn more about Maggie and her past. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

Love at First Light is the sixth book in a phenomenal series set in a small town in Alaska. If you have ever wanted to or have previously traveled to Alaska you will definitely want to check out the Lost Harbor series. Although you can read any of the books at any time I would definitely recommend reading them in order (simply because there are references to some characters that appeared in previous books).
In the particular book, we follow the story of Ethan James and Jessica. Like many other books in this series Jessica is a local and Ethan is “just visiting”. Ethan is actually a PI who was hired to help uncover the birth parents of a local resident. SG is a resident that means a lot to the locals and everyone wants to help her discover parts of her past so she can get on with her life. Jessica has lived in Lost Harbor for her entire life and runs the local bakery. When their paths are suddenly thrown together in the investigation you can’t help but want to follow their story. What starts as a simple investigation leads to events that no one saw coming. Investigations are never simple though and when Jessica and Ethan find themselves stranded in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness you will not want to put this book down.
I absolutely loved this book and think it is my favorite in the series (maybe it’s because of my love of baking). If you are looking for a series that is an easy to read, The Lost Harbor series is definitely for you. I love Jennifer Bernard and her writing style. She somehow makes you feel like you are in the midst of the plot and part of story. I can easily imagine myself right in the middle of Alaska in these books. It is the perfect romance with a bit of a suspense thrown together to form a perfect story. I cannot wait for the next installment of this series!!!

I absolutely loved this book! It checked off so many boxes for me as far as what I like in a romance. From the gorgeous setting, to the amazing lead characters of Ethan and Jessica, to the actual story line, everything was just perfectly written. It's true what they say that opposites attract and it certainly seems like Jessica and Ethan are so far on opposite sides of everything that there is no way they could ever find a way to be together despite their physical attraction. But, after time spent alone together for a common cause, some really fun banter followed by serious conversation and understanding of each other's feelings, it leads them down that very path. I love both of these characters so much. They are perfectly imperfect making them perfect for each other. Ethan, the PI who doesn't think too far into the future because of his past; and Jessica, the sweet baker who has a very difficult time making any decisions, team up to try and find S.G.'s biological mother. This leads them into the Lost Souls Wilderness and the suspenseful tone up against the playfulness of this couple was very intriguing. I was positively riveted by this part of the story. I can't wait to find out what is really going on out there. We may have had one mystery solved here, but so much remains unknown and unanswered for. This is such an amazingly enjoyable series!!

Love at First Light is the sixth book in Jennifer Bernard’s Lost Harbor series. We pick up the series trying to find the answers to Spruce Grouse’s (S.G.) parentage and her time spent in Lost Souls Wilderness. Enter Private Investigator Ethan James. He’s not new to Lost Harbor as he’s appeared in previous books. He’s been hired by Maya, the Police Chief, to uncover the how’s and why’s to S.G.’s life spent in the remote wilderness.
His entrance into town is upended when he’s thrown into jail where he meets bakery owner Jessica Dixon. Jessica, is dealing with her own issues when her bakery is threatened to be pulled out from under her. Instead of dealing with the sale of her bakery, she decides to join Ethan as he investigates S.G.
Almost from the time they arrive in the wilderness unexplained things start to occur. What is going on and who is behind the events that lead to them landing in handcuffs in an isolated lodge? Will they find the answers S.G. is looking for?
Love at First Light is an entertaining book filled with suspense and humor. I can’t wait to discover what is really going on in Lost Souls and look forward to reading the next book in the series. This is a standalone book, but I highly suggest reading the other books in the series. I received an advance copy of Love at First Light which I chose to read and review.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book to leave an honest review. I have read the entire Lost Harbor series except for one book so far and all are very enjoyable. Excellent writing style, no jumps in the timeline and great romance. Each book has a good plot/storyline that makes it about more than just the relationship which I like.
This book follows Ethan, a private investigator, and Jessica, a baker. Ethan has been to Lost Harbor multiple times to upon request for his assistance. This time the police chief is requesting his help to look into the background of a young 15 year old girl with no past. Jessica gets involved when the police chief can't assist Ethan and decides she needs to get out of her safe "bubble". She figures with her knowledge of the town, people and area, she'd be an asset to Ethan. Needless to say, Ethan's logical side and Jessica's optimistic side don't always get along even though there is a strong attraction between the two.
Besides the relationship between the two main characters, you'll encounter sunken float planes, arrests, window escapes and unknown criminal activity. Overall a great book. Fun and fast read. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I just didn't connect as well with these characters as in previous books.

Are they really at opposite ends of everything?
We experience the magic of Ms Bernard once again in the continuation of the Lost Harbor Series with her signature poetic and descriptive writing style.
It is Ethan and Jessica’s turn, not unknown to us. Ethan flirts with the Grim Reaper and believes and depends (mostly) on logic. He is, after all, a PI.Jessica flirts with a crystal ball and has an intuitive nature. She may have a problem making important decisions, but she can also pilot a float plane and is an exceptional baker.
For me, this was the most exciting story in the series with lots of adventure, physically and mentally. And SG (Spruce Grouse) plays a pivotal role in the plot. We have all been waiting for this. The story is fast paced and I was riveted by the story from beginning to end. Ethan and Jessica’s conflicting personalities are hilarious at times, but Wow! Do they have some scorching chemistry between them! Holy Hotness! Polar opposites, magnetically speaking of course!
If you are not a returning visitor to Lost Harbor, then make this your first one. It won’t be the last. You will be highly entertained by the quirky inhabitants.

Ethan is a PI, who was brought to Lost Harbor by Police Chief Maya Badger to find out anything he can about S.G. Jessica owns the Bakery/B & B. Ethan gets a coucher from Maya to stay at the B & B. Maya's dad gets sick, so she tells Ethan to head home, and they will try again when Maya has time. Jessica decides to have Ethan stay and she will help him with his search. They go into Lost Souls Wilderness to try to find the cabin that S.G. was in. While in the woods, somone sinks Jessica's float plane that they used to get there, cuts up their tent and sleeping bags. They find a man named Alistair staying in the run down shack S.G. was held in, and they find S.G.'s Mom, Kelsey, at a beautiful lodge. Maya picks them up and takes them back to Lost Harbor. S.G is taking the name of Maggie, that Kelsey gave her.
Up next is finally Maya's story. Maybe a sexy giant named Rune who is her Dads new home health care nurse, or could it be Alistair, whom Ethan will be working for to find out what happened to his family ? I can't wait for Maya's story.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review

Jennifer Bernard's "Love at First Light" was a fun, fast-paced read featuring likeable, well-developed characters and a compelling plot. While it is the sixth book of the Lost Harbor, Alaska series and also relates to Bernard's earlier Rockwell series, it reads as a total standalone. That said, I have loved the entire Lost Harbor series and highly recommend the earlier books in addition to this one.
I really liked the magical, almost supernatural feel of the story in the beginning as it explored male lead character Ethan's numerous near-death experiences. I also enjoyed the book's mystery/suspense elements as Ethan and the female lead, Jessica, investigated the origins of S.G., a mysterious young girl who came to live in Lost Harbor earlier in the series. The slow burn romance between Ethan and Jess was well-crafted, and I loved their witty banter. They both had emotional baggage to overcome before they could pursue a relationship, but I found Jessica's to be particularly relatable. I sympathized with the difficulty she faced in making big decisions as well as the reasons behind it, and when she finally stood up to her mother and stepfather near the end of the book, I wanted to cheer.
As in the previous books of the series, the secondary characters in this story were incredibly likeable and added a lot of depth to the narrative. I was especially excited to catch up with Police Chief Maya Badger, and I am thrilled that her story is coming up next! It feels like I've been waiting forever for her to get a story of her own.
Overall, I very much enjoyed "Love at First Light" and can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series!

Lost Harbor, Alaska is quite possibly my favorite fictional town! We met Jessica Dixon in the previous book. She's Chief Maya Badger's best friend and the best (and only) baker in town. P.I. Ethan James is back in town and his arrival did not go smoothly. He and Jessica keep bumping into each other but they aren't going to let a pesky thing like attraction distract them from the fact that they are complete opposites and have nothing in common...or do they? I really enjoyed the push and pull of their story. Jessica is all sunshine and rainbows as opposed to Ethan's gloomy and cynical view of life. Love at First Light stands alone for the romance aspect of the story however there is an underlying story that started in Seduced by Snowfall (Book 3) that has been an element of the series. I recommend reading the series from the beginning to get the most out of that aspect of Love at First Light. So enjoy this fun contemporary romance with a bit of mystery and a splash of heat. It was told from dual POV and I am looking forward to more adventures to come in Lost Harbor!

I really enjoyed this book. I absolutely loved the banter between Jess and Ethan and it had me hooked from the beginning This book is a standalone but is part of a series from the same town.
Jess runs the local bakery and B&B and PI Ethan has arrived to help the local police chief with a case. They are complete opposites and the banter between them is highly entertaining. Between them they end up investigating the missing family of a local girl and it leads them into one precarious situations after the other - and they work really well as a team. It also leads them into spending a lot of time together.
I loved how the small town vibe and the free spirit of Jess was refreshing. Ethan was an easy character to like, he was easy going but fixed in his beliefs. Seeing the two opposites learn from each others behaviour whilst getting to know each other was really interesting.
Really enjoyable book and I will be reading more from the series.

This is a sexy, romantic suspense full of adventure, drama, and conflict. Ethan James, was a sexy, lovable private investigator who had returned to Lost Harbor, Alaska to help the the police chief find SG's mom. They do not even know if she is alive but they hope to find the cabin where SG escaped from the man who had taken her a long time ago. It was so nice to find out more about that mystery that appeared in several prior books in this series.
While Ethan was searching in the Lost Souls Wilderness with Jessica, who owns the bakery and bed and breakfast, many strange things happened which kept me glued to the pages to find out how the story would end. I cannot wait to read the next story to find out more about what is lurking in the Lost Souls Wilderness and what trouble Ethan may find himself in next. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

Wow, this was one wild ride. I already liked Ethan from his previous appearances, but he is even better when he is with Jessica. They have the most interesting conversations! I enjoyed getting to know Jessica, too. She is a real sweetheart who is truly trying to do her best, and she found a new way to impress me in almost every chapter. Girlfriend has skills. Together, they have chemistry that leaps off the page and crackles.
I don't want to say too much else because nearly everything would be a spoiler. I will just say this story has adventure, danger (but not violence), romance, and an incredible number of surprises. I rocketed through it because I had to find out what would happen.
A side note -- I have been looking forward to Maya's story since she showed up in book one because she is obviously an amazing woman. But now, after the hints at the end of this one, I am dying for it. It's going to be great. This series isn't slowing down at all.

September 23, 2020What a book. A story of self journey, finding answers and discovering what love is. Two people setting out to find answers because they don't wanna let down a young girl. One is very pragmatic and the other is free spirited. They are both faced with life altering decisions and situations in the beautiful Alaskan wilderness. Jess is feeling pressure from her mother and a bunch of self doubt. Ethan, oh Ethan I swear he just seems like he doesn't feel, acts like a robot. But once again the way Jennifer Bernard writes this story you wanna keep reading the series to discover yet another layer of a mystery that comes out. But the way these two people figure out their lives and that they can be both pragmatic and possibly free spirited is just incredible. It was just such a nice Warm fuzzy of a book. This review is offered because of a book that I volunteered to read, however I bought the book to be on my shelf because I will re read it
