Monsters Love Curvy Girls #3

His Human Assistant

Rate this book
I’m a corporate whistleblower running for my life, so I take the first job I can find off planet.

Now I’m a lowly assistant for some rich devil named Hannibal Hellstone? And when I say “devil,” I mean DEVIL. As in this guy’s skin is dark red, he has shiny black horns, sharp fangs, silver-tipped claws and a barbed tail. This Hyrrokin is scary AF and his eight-year-old son looks just like him. And, he has a sharp-toothed, three-headed, fire-breathing “dog” at his side.

*gulp*

I’m supposed to live with my new boss?

I don’t know anything about kids. And I don’t like pets. But, jeez, this guy is hawt. And his kid is sweet too. My heart cracks open for them—and their “dog.”

Hannibal starts throwing heated glances my way. But if this honorable soldier knew the real me, the girl with the checkered past, would he still want me? Oh well, it’s not like this is going to get serious—he’s told everyone he’s never, ever, going to marry anyone ever again.

This is good, right?

That’s what I want too…right?

This story would’ve been so much better. But then I read this and had to bail.

“I lost my virginity long ago, while I was at university. But I’ve mainly been focused on my career. I haven’t found anyone special, and to be truthful, I don’t find sex all that wonderful.”

Nope. Sorry. Don’t want to read about a heroine who can’t 100% belong to her hero, who has severed the bond of being claimed and has spread her legs for losers to crawl between, to grunt and heave and slime all over her.

I do really like this series-- I think this was not as good as the first one but better than the second one, and I enjoyed that our heroine had some agency in terms of being successful in her own right

Quick(ish) Review

Cute, especially the family scenes but not much of a story and any tension that could have been had from the heroine being on the run amounts to nothing, really. More of a tell vs. show, and I’m not sure this series is my cuppa.

The scenarios are becoming shorter and less believable, but the characters are still enjoyable.
It's humorous how all these human females are terrified at first sight, then horny and madly in love minutes later.

I groaned audibly when Really!?!

Despite the required suspension of disbelief, I liked the overall story; I think Dagr was my favorite Hellstone.

Eh. This could have been a bit more exciting but seems a missed opportunity. Avery works "undercover" in forensic accounting and has to go into hiding until a targeted client stands trial. She becomes the assistant to a devilish looking Hannibal who owns a security company (how fortunate) and is a widow with a young son. Avery throws herself into her role and lives in house with Hannibal who has an instant case of permanent boner. There is a vow never to have a serious relationship by Hannibal that anybody can see right through. The whole scenario of Avery being hunted is a missed opportunity here and the longing and misunderstanding was pretty average. pleasant enough but....

The Monsters Love Curvy Girls series by Michele Mills is fun, adorable, sexy, cheesy and quirky, but very delightful. I enjoyed each story in the series. It’s a cute alien romance and something fun to pass the time.

His Human Assistant is the third book in the Monsters Love Curvy Girls series. This time we get Avery and Hannibal. Hannibal needs an assistant and hires a human. He’s a single dad and not looking for love. This is a cute story. I enjoyed both characters. They both have hang-ups that they need to overcome before they get their HEA. They are adorable together right form the start. I also liked Hannibal’s 8-year-old son and their dog. The story had a few weird moments, but other then that its a delightful and fun read.

This time it’s about Avery a woman that has to flee from mercenaries and there takes a job on a far away planet as an assistant.
Her new boss is Hannibal that we met briefly in the former book. He is attracted to his new assistant right from the start and after the first shock about his devilish looks, Avery soon finds herself being very attractive to him too. However after the death of his former mate and the mother of his son he vow to never bound again.
This was again such a cute story. I liked both characters a lot and they were so cute together right from the beginning. I also really liked his 8 year old son. He was such a cutie hoping that Avery will like him and stay. Avery is very cute towards him and while she never really thought about children soon has to admit she loves to spend time with him and care for him.
The “dog” in the family was cute too and I liked the first scene with him and how Avery reacted.
Overall this had a few WTH moments like when he orders her to sleep in his bed because she is his assistant. That was stupid but at least she didn’t fall for it, I mean she went and did it anyway because she wanted too but it was kinde stupid of him lying about this. There are actually a few moments I wish he would have been more honest with her.
However it was still a very cute and fun story and I definitely want to read the next book too.

I almost solely read this book while I was at the gym, and it was a good way to pass the time there. It took me two gym visits to finish it. I was lucky to get this book as a freebie in a-stuff-your-Kindle day with a whole list someone compiled of free reads that I found out about through an author's newsletter.

Dagr, the son, and the three-headed dog (which reminds me of Cerebrus from Greek mythology) were adorable. It was also cute how Hannibal would blow smoke from his nostrils when he was irritated.
The only things I didn't like were that the smut was delayed (because of the characters) and the climax at the end was over too quickly/wasn't fully realized/confused me.

This book is written in dual first person present tense. Books written in present tense almost always throw me for a minute or two when I start reading them.

Tempted by the devil

The author has really outdone herself with this story. She brings us right into the action and doesn’t let up until the very end. Just when I thought I could relax, bam! Something new was going on. And I love these characters! They each were carrying their own baggage and had to overcome it before they could get to their HEA. It brought a depth to the story that helped me to get caught up in the tale. This is the first book I’ve read in this series, but I didn’t feel lost. Although I do plan to go back and read the previous books so I can see what I missed. This author is quickly becoming one of my favorites and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!

DNF 23% - I tried with this series and I really wanted to like it because of the plus size rep but it's not for me. It's too instalust/instalove for my tastes and plot in general moves way too fast. If that's not an issue for you, though, they're fun, light reads with a demon looking alien HEA every book.

I had already been enjoying this series, but adding the audio made it that much better. We get to see some characters from previous books, but mostly it's just this family, and I loved it. Hoping there are more books coming up!

So cute, the hell theme was strong with this one. The mini cerberus was adorable. I liked Avery, she knew she was good. Sweet family, chaos in the background and Berg being smug.

Avery has worked hard, taking down organizations led by creatures that only care about their own pockets. Once her cover blows up and assassins hunts her down, she takes refuge in an agency that places humans or otherwise in different jobs. She doesn't care where they would send her as long as she can do a job and get out of New Earth. What she doesn't expect is getting a job as an assistant to an alien that looks like a literal devil, including tails, horns, and all the rest.

Hannibal became a single parent to his son Dagr when his "wife" died in a transport accident. He swore to never get involved with another female to the point she felt trapped in a relationship with him. When his new assistant arrives he can barely stop his primitive instincts, he wants to protect, cherish, and make her his, all at the same time. Being part-owner of a top Security Company he immediately notices the signs that Avery is running from something and he vows to protect her at all costs.

This book is number 3 in the series and I waited eagerly to read it. I kind of know the world already and some of the background information from the other couples, which allows me to feel more invested in what's going on between the main couple, and Dagr too. He only wants her to accept him and worries that Avery won't like him because she said she doesn't have experience taking care of children.

For the main couple, there are problems, lots of them. She wants to keep it professional and he would want the same thing if it wasn't for the fact that he can't stand to see her talking to another male. He was the one that said he didn't want anything serious after his bonded female died. He is the one regretting saying it almost immediately. I couldn't help but laugh at how he acted towards her when he couldn't get his way and wanted her close.

I honestly think Michele Mills does a great job with this series. I can't imagine how the next one it's going to top this one but I'll be here, ready and waiting to pick it up. I love this world, the premise, the plot, the male characters, and most of all, the badass human female that doesn't cower in the face of danger.

If you like office romances this could be your cup of tea with a sprinkle of aliens that look like the devil. In reality, I dare to say this was a better "office romance" than the last few I read. Take into considerations it's not my favorite troupe but I would re-read this book, without doubt, that's how much I enjoyed it.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The couple: Hannibal and Avery

Romance genre: alien

Plot: In this book, our couple is the human Avery and the Hyrrokin Hannibal. Avery is on the run as a government forensic accountant who has uncovered corruption and Hannibal is a single father who runs a security company. She goes to their planet to get away from the people who are chasing her and gets a job as Hannibal's assistant. He falls for her but is leery of breaking his rule about getting serious with a female. They spend more and more time together though and like what they discover about each other.

Character development: They both have some funny quirks; I especially like the way that everyone refers to Hannibal's cheapness, and how he secured Avery's services as an assistant with a coupon. These two were very sweet, and I love how Hannibal continued to break his own rules of not being serious about a woman, little by little.

Part of a series: Yes (Monsters Love Curvy Girls)

Would I read more from this author/in this series: Yes!

This is the third installment in the Monsters Love Curvy Girls series by Michelle Mills, and I loved it just as much as the others! I loved this addition, and can't wait for the next book!

Ok

I really liked the first book in this series. The second not so much, but I had hopes for this third installment. They were severely dashed. This is basically the first book in the series with many of the exact same plot points, only superficial tweaks to characters. The changes the author did make only detracted from believability in my opinion. It's sci-fi romance, to some extent you have to just go with it or you don't enjoy reading it. However, the whole let's sleep in the same bed while having an otherwise platonic relationship & she says yes - that was a bridge too far for me.

This was fun but could have been better, an office alien romance with with a single parent sounds like a fun time but it was a slog to get through , the slow burn, sketchy living arrangement was not a that great either.

Smut was unnecessarily withheld for a long time, ultimately I like Avery and just wanted to read the epilogue which did not dissapoint

I had read book #1 in this series, His Human Nanny, and I think that one was better because it had to set up the new world, so it felt fresh and interesting, even though it was a short and shallow story. But this book doesn't have the newness to prop it up, and the FMC, Avery, reacts exactly the same way that the FMC of book #1 does when she sets eyes on her Hyrrokin employer: she screams bloody murder.

She has less reason than the previous FMC to be taken by surprise or to be freaked out; she works undercover for the Intergalactic Business Bureau and has travelled to various sectors or planets before. She's not sheltered, and would have met all kinds of other beings, so it doesn't make sense for her to be so taken aback when she meets Hannibal.

Also, Hannibal is a really human name for an alien...

Anyway, I wasn't impressed with Avery because despite working undercover, she doesn't have any extraction plan in the event that things go wrong--it made her look like a poor planner and a lousy undercover agent. I was even less impressed by the ditsy way she responded to Hannibal when she met him; it seemed to me that she hadn't read any of the info that the employment agency had provided her with. They'd given her a tablet with information about the planet that she was going to, as well as the specific assignment, but obviously she hadn't read anything, or she'd have known what to expect when she arrived at the transporter station.

The way she didn't read the information which had been provided to her and wasn't prepared for the job with Hannibal made me feel like she didn't take it seriously. Considering that she was on the run, she should have wanted to appear as professional and prepared as possible in order to fit in and not look suspicious. In fact, Hannibal immediately knows that something is not right when she arrives without luggage, and puts a private investigator on her trail because he wants to know what she's running from. If he hadn't been immediately taken with her, or if he had been a bad guy, she'd have been toast.

I didn't feel that Hannibal's reaction to Avery was believable. Just before she arrives on the planet Tarvos, he was having a conversation with his best friend about human females and was thinking that he didn't find them attractive at all. Two of his friends are mated to humans, but he says he has never understood the attraction. Then when Avery appears in the transporter, he's all, "I can't believe how beautiful she is" and "How am I supposed to calmly work alongside this sex goddess?" I don't see how he can be attracted to her the moment he sees her. He doesn't like that humans have hair on their head but no horns, and he notes that Avery's hair is even thicker, longer, and darker than the hair of the other two human females he has met. But for some reason, "This does not bother me as much as it does on the other human females"???

Apart from the ludicrous plot (at some point Hannibal storms into her room and demands that Avery sleep with him in the same bed: "Assistants and their employers also share rooms," he claims--AND SHE GOES ALONG WITH IT!) I was also feeling 'meh' with the book because of all the telling instead of showing. Hannibal actually has deep fears of taking another mate because he doesn't want anyone to feel trapped, as his first mate did. But instead of showing us his fear, the author just has him reiterate that he has vowed never to take another mate. The result is a very shallow book that doesn't engage the reader in any meaningful way.

I'm taking the rest of this author's books off my TBR. I'll just have to reread Ice Planet Barbarians (by Ruby Dixon) again instead. ::sigh::

His Human Assistant is the story of Hannibal and Avery Hellstone.

Tropes:
Single dad x refugee?
Boss x assistant
HEA and kids, Dagr, and a daughter and another girl on the way
Hot irresistible bulky Hyrrokin hero
Intelligent pretty, understanding, and kind heroine
Touch her and you die
Jealous, protective, and possessive

She is wanted by some company for ruining something or ratted the company out for its shit they had done and now was wanted by them so basically there was a target on her back so she decides to leave the planet and gets a job as an assistant in Tarvos where Hyrrokin live. She excepts gladly and is now working with Hannibal who co owns Molten Lava Security with Bergelmir. Mind you he's a bit of a cheapskate and used a coupon to get a hew-man when he could've as easily get a hyrrokin one. Hannibal has a bit of a disturbing backstory, so he got a bound really young and got her pregnant and turns out she was in love with someone else and when the dude thought it was going nowhere he got with someone else and she was depressed and got into a fatal car accident and died and Hannibal always thought it was his fault and vowed never to trap another woman with him ever again and he resorted to pleasure mating, so he was basically a one and done man. When he meets Avery she screams but apologises and he is in awe of her and instantly possessive. He wants to pleasure mate her severely but doesn't out of respect. She finds out about him being a former man whore and is kind of jealous. He makes up all these lies about how she has to sleep in the same bed as him to which she knows is complete bullshit. They have a three headed dog named Skylo and is so cute. I love their cute breakfasts and dinners and how close she has grown with Dagr and how intelligent she is. Hannibal has a lot of trust in Avery because she sends him with Dagr to his foot appointment due to him walking on his toes and the doctor says he needs casts for weeks and braces and she calls Hannibal but no answer so she leaves the decision to Dagr and they carefully think about it and Dagr agrees and they get it. This is when I think he knew she was the one but his trauma stopped him. Moving on in the book the assassins find her location and attack everyone in their location and she sends Dagr away to somewhere safe and her and grandma Narvi run away and are later saved by Hannibal. PS, forgot to mention this but there is some kind of animosity with his mother because her husband left her for some other woman and it left her with trauma and a lot of therapy to solve it. Moving on, he gets so jealous of her being around so many people that he makes out with her right in front of everyone at his work so people know they're avowed pleasure mates but they don't mate. This is the last straw for her so she talks with Riley and Chloe and gets support and is thinking about proposing to him so the next day she gives him head and then invites him down and proposes to him to which he proposes to with a ring and she agrees and is now his wife and Dagr's mom. That day they consummate their marriage standing up to which was a bit weird but I loved it cuz it was quick and hot and then move to the bed hehe. Five years later they have Dagr, a daughter, and another girl on the way.

This is an OK sci-fi alien romance, but I did have some issues with it. It gets 3 stars from me.

First, it was too short to have as much character development as I like. I would have liked a little more backstory on both Avery and Hannibal.

Avery was likable enough, but I thought her first meeting with Hannibal was a little weird. Because his people looked much like the human idea of Satan, she was terrified and screamed when she met him. Then, she was almost immediately in instalust with him? I just didn't buy it. It also really bothered me that she kept giving in to his demands (she had to live with him, then she had to sleep in his bed, etc.), when she could have said no. I especially had a problem with her agreeing to sleep in his bed (just cuddling, not sex), even though she thought he wanted only sex from her and not a real relationship.

Hannibal was a bit hard to like. His demands of Avery bothered me. He lusted after her, but kept repeating that he never wanted another mate. Then he insisted that she sleep in his bed, and help care for his son -- even though she was supposed to be his assistant. I get that his past bad relationship made him think he could never trust females, but that was no excuse to treat Avery like he did.

I liked that Avery quickly learned that Hannibal's race were not really devils, and liked them and their world. I also liked that she adored his son and his pet.

I liked that curvy girls were considered beautiful in Hannibal's world, since everyone on his planet was much larger than any human. I also liked that most of the people were openly welcoming to other races, and were fascinated with humans.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

DNF at 50%, so no star rating. I had read the first book in this series and thought it was ok but a bit too baby-crazy for me. I read some other stories by this author and liked them better, so I thought I would give another book in this series a try.

I thought it was a great start. I liked that this girl was career oriented. She didn't really like kids or pets. Got along with people, but her work came first because she was highly educated, driven, business-savvy, and justice seeking... Then she gets to his planet and instantly becomes a completely different person.

She arrives on this hell planet full of demon people, screaming in terror at their appearance. LESS than 24 hours later, she LOVES demon pets, thinks kids are adorable (repeatedly asking herself if she wants to take care of one), she is talking about how she's in danger of falling for a Hyorrkin, and acting crazy-unprofessional with her new boss.

I don't know if we are already supposed to like him from his appearances in previous books, but here he has no personality. He shit talks human women and their capacity to do business. He lies to her and manipulates her to his own ends. NOT a catch.

I don't like books that do lots of "telling" with no "showing". This book does both, but the person the author tells us about is NOT the character she shows us.

Also, Avery asks Hannibal about how she was hired from an agency with a coupon:

"You only chose me because I was on sale?" she pouts.

She POUTS? Ewwww.

On the next page, Hannibal says he has to keep a doctor's appt for his kid the next day because his kid's feet are deformed. Hannibal noticed that his kid had been walking strangely, and had MEANT to take him in earlier, but now he's waited too long, and his kid can't stand or walk properly. He lists all this stuff that kept him too busy to take care of his kid, including adopting his pet.... I'm sorry? You were too busy to take your kid to a doctor because you needed to crate train your dog first?

Like I said, he's NOT a catch. 🤢🤮

4& 1\2 🌟's for monsters love curvy girls book 3

This series is just so much fun. I laugh out loud , dreamy sigh and totally want my own sexy devil every time I read one of these stories. Avery is tough, very intelligent super curvy and unapologetic about it. Don't we all just want someone to like or love us for ourselves no matter how we look? She's undercover agent who infiltrates businesses and takes down corruption. All with her extremely skilled mind for finances! When her cover is blown she needs off world as fast as possible and where does she land yup, you guessed on Tavaros with the gorgeous devil like aliens . She takes one look at her boss screams and then holy hell scares herself with the fierce attraction she feels good him. Hannibal Hellstone (yes, that's his name I love it I like to think he was named after my favorite ancient General Hannibal of Carthage) head of the Lava security firm needs an assistant and he had a coupon for the placement agency. He takes one look at Avery and knows she belongs to him. He just believes he can't have her. His first relationship happened when he was young and he has a son he loves but his first mate was unhappy and decided she didn't want to be his anymore. She died tragically, but he blames himself so he's vowed never to claim another and that his is coming back to haunt him now.. All he wants is Avery, the way she handles money, the business and the way she loves his son are only added bonuses to what he already feels good her. Come read about hi they navigate misunderstandings, passion, blossoming love and so much more you won't be disappointed! It was a great read!💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

The writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was clean, with no typos that I found and well constructed sentences. The world building was competent, if not especially vivid. The characterization was well done, with both hero and heroine being sympathetic individuals with strengths and weaknesses. The development of the romantic relationship was a cute slow burn. The heat level of this novel was three chili peppers. The plot and pacing were both tight and exciting, meaning that I read this novel in one sitting. This novel had low angst and high stakes, which tends to be one of my preferred narrative structures for a romance novel. This novel used the Hero Feels Unworthy of the Heroine trope and the Single Parent trope. The world building was three stars. The plot and pacing were both four stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship were also four stars. I therefore gave this novel a combined rating of four stars. This novel ended on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger ending, so that was a big plus. I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy funny, cute sci-fi romances. I look forward to reading the next book in this series when it releases. I do not plan to buy myself a keeper copy at this time, though I may in the future. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

His Human Assistant by Michele Mills is the newest in the Monsters Love Curvy Girls series and I have been waiting with bated breath for it! And let me tell you, Avery and Hannibal did not disappoint!

Avery is a spitfire and I adored her from the very start, only falling more in love with her as the story progressed. She's only there temporarily but plans to make the most of her time, and I can't wait for her boundaries to get pushed as she finds things she didn't even know she was looking for.

And Hannibal? What a dreamboat, even if he does look a bit like the devil! Charming, fiercely loyal, and in love with his son. He feels emotions deeply but also fights against those that he feels will detract from the life he's made for himself and his son. Yet he finds sweet Avery completely irresistible. And I oh so enjoyed watching that unravel out of his control!

And Dagr? What a cutie! I loved getting to see him grow as a character but just in general be adorable! And I want a Skylo!

If you're looking for a charming, fantastical, witty, sweet, at times intense story with tension and plot and characterization that will keep up wanting more, His Human Assistant is absolutely what you should pick for your next read!
