The Season of Lies is the pulse-pounding eighth book in the Paradise Valley mystery series. If you like bold women, puzzling twists, and a little romance with your suspense, then you’ll love Debra Burroughs’ thrilling mystery.
Debra Burroughs writes with intensity and power. Her characters are rich and the stories are full of compelling suspense and real romance. She can be found, most days, sitting in front of her computer in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, dreaming up and writing about strong women, their relationships with men (good and bad), involved in exciting, mysterious, and romantic situations.
Another winner by Debra Burroughs who is always worth reading. The surprising plot twist points out our own biases in what we believe to be true. To fully appreciate the underlying story, begin with the first book book in this ongoing series, The Scent of Lies.
A fascinating, unusual murder mystery that opens up a world of deceit, lies, murder, and unusual suspects. Police detective Colin and his PI wife, Emily team up to solve the murder of a young woman found dead with some unexpected details about the murder that are distinctive and unexpected. The story is well-written and fast-paced with plenty of action. The supporting characters, Emily's close friends, are independent individuals who bring their own attributes to the story and make it that much more enjoyable to read. The world-building is terrific and the reader is drawn into the drama the story presents. The story also has some surprising twists that will enthrall readers up to the very end.
THE SEASON.OF LIES .#8....Debra Burrough Emily is a private investigator and a welcome visit with friends stopping by her office. The talk centered around getting donations of coats and toys for Christmas . Mentioning a murder had happen close by and her husband was called out. That is what she liked something to challenge her and wanting to get involved, beside boring PI work. The. clues on the young woman was puzzling, even though Emily wasn’t getting paid for it, she wanted to figure it out. A good flowing plot, of jealousy and Emily got caught up in it, and then attacked, Good series and enjoyed another addition to it.
The Season of Lies is the eighth book in the Paradise Valley Mysteries Series by Debra Burroughs. I have read all of the books in the series and was excited to read this one. Colin and Emily are back to solve a murder in Paradise Valley. I really like these two as a couple. It was good seeing their friends back as well, including Maggie. I find her annoying at times.
I thought the story flowed well and gave us the right amount of mystery and suspense. I thought the characters well-developed and kept me interested throughout the story. I am looking forward to more from Paradise Valley. Kudos to Debra Burroughs!
This book was amazing!! Emily is asked to help her husband with a murder. While doing their investigation they find there are other murders that fit the same mo. New neighbors move in next door to Maggie. They decide to ask Josie to come to one of their defense classes. She seems very timid, and very clumsy Emily begins to think Josie ' s husband abuses his wife. They discover there were other murders in the cities that Josie and her husband lived before. Could Duncan be a killer? -What a great ending. I did not see that coming. This series is must resd!!
I enjoyed this book!! I got it for free and I ended up liking it so at some point I am going to read the other books in the series. Loved the little bit of romance in the book between P.I. Emily Parker Andrews and her Husband Colin who is also a Detective. Loved that they got to work together on a case and solve it. This book has a lot of twists and turns, and I thought it was going a different way and it ended up going a whole different way then I was thinking it was going. Liked all the bold women in this book. And I loved the mystery in this book too.
Love this series. When I discovered the first book and enjoyed, I read all the rest immediately. Great characters, great friendships, entertaining interaction among them make them friends of the reader. Love all the romances that have blossomed and developed in the series. Each murder mystery is also well written and plausible, with lots of suspects and clues! Enjoy!
When I started reading this book did not realize it wasn't the first book in the series. Will need to regroup and start with the first one. 😃. This one was an easy read about newlyweds that are investigating a murder which turns into a serial killing... Colin is a Detective and Emily is a private investigator. Emily has some really close girl friends which sound so cool and always have Emily's back...
After I read the first book, I made sure I read the rest of them that were out. Was so happy to see The Season of Lies. Bought it immediately for my Kindle. Finished it a couple of days! Loved it.....great mixture of suspense, amazement, some comedy and romance. Hope another one comes out before too long. Will never tire of Colin and Emily and their friends!!!!
I really dislike it when an author uses “thinkn’, donatin’ and promisn’” instead of “thinking, donating and promising”. This usage was so prevalent from the very beginning of the book that I found it distracting and I stopped reading at 7%. There was noting about this book that made me want to continue reading. Sorry.
A good mystery for the Christmas season. Contemporary. Well-paced. The plot moved along quickly.
I did figure out the who-done-it pretty early on, but there was still a good twist towards the end that I didn't see coming. The last chapter felt a bit contrived, but the rest of the story was pretty good.
The charming, newlywed crime fighting couple make a fun pair of investigators. A police detective and his private detective wife search for a murderer who may turn out to be a serial killer. The story was enjoyable and did a good job of concealing the killer until the end. You will enjoy the characters and I recommend this book.
Good mystery that keeps you guessing until near the end. Only shortcoming is that the detective husband seems to ignore many of the clues that appear obvious to the reader even if they turn out different than expected. All of the main characters (other than the suspects) are likeable.
This book has a serious looking cover, yet the story’s premise is quite silly and unbelievable. After a few pages I couldn’t stand the small town, her best friends group and get togethers, or her husband giving out information on his police cases. So unbelievable it’s ridiculous.
Loved this book like all the rest in the series.they suck you in and keep your attention. I recommended to my sister who loves to read also. Really hope there is another book soon !
This series is thrilling as well as enticing. The character development is great and continues to grow on you as you get to know them. The twist to the mystery is also great, so if you think you have the murder figured out , we’ll you don’t!
I love the way Debra writes, building the characters, building the story lines, then leading you in a few directions... Then, it all changes, you had it all figured out, but you really didn't!!!
I really enjoyed the twists and turns in the plot. One minute it seemed like one person was a murderer and then another one comes into the picture. The newlyweds Colin and Emily, the Police detective and PI, teamed up again to help solve the case,p.
I made it to chapter 8 and couldn't go any further. It just sounds like a child wrote the story. Too simple in the writing. Emily seems to have a strange personality to me. The storyline seemed so promising.
Very good as far as a cozy mystery goes. This is an on going series but my first. I found it to be enjoyable light reading. The characters are likable and it was an interesting plot.
An enjoyable book. Not the first I read in this series. Many good characters you can relate to. You have some suspicions of the serial killer before the end but it is nearly that last few pages until you will understand why. Would recommend.
I have LOVED all of Debra Burroughs Books. I especially enjoy reading the Paradise Valley Mystery Series about Emily and her 4 friends. I will definitely tell my mom and sister to read these books.
The Season of Lies had all needed for a good read. The main characters are likeable and the mystery of who is the killer makes an exciting series. The ending was a surprise!
One of my favorite series. The book was no exception. Emily and Colin are trying to solve a murder, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There’s romance, mystery, and holiday cheer. Great combination. I couldn’t put the book down.
