Christmas at Fireside Cabins

Rate this book
Escape to the idyllic small town of Pinewood Hills in this enchanting romance, about falling in love under the mistletoe with a sprinkle of Christmas magic…

For Lila Evans, Christmas is the toughest time of year––a heartbreaking reminder of losing her father, and just how lonely she is… This year, she’s organized a blissful getaway with her closest friends: just the remedy for the December blues.

The countryside resort of Fireside Cabins, tucked away in the snowy Tennessee hills, seems like this year’s perfect setting to get into the festive spirit. But it’s far from a winter wonderland––the crumbling cottage is falling apart, and the owner, a widow named Eleanor Finely, confesses that the cabins are on the brink of closure. Lila and her friends should pack their bags right there and then, but Lila can’t bear to leave the tearful elderly woman. She clearly has no one, and Lila, more than anyone, knows how that feels.

In search of holiday cheer, the women find a local coffee shop. But the rugged, surly owner Theo Perry has an apparent aversion to Christmas, seeming downright angry when Lila asks for a peppermint latte. No one in the area knows who he is––but it’s clear he’s running from something.

Yet there’s more to this small town than Theo’s frosty reception. As much as his coldness infuriates her, Lila can’t deny that on the rare occasions when he does smile, it feels like coming home. Plus, the cabins are just calling for some festive sparkle.

And, unexpectedly, Pinewood Hills could hold a new beginning for Lila… But can she save Fireside Cabins in time for Christmas? With a dusting of festive magic, spiced apple cider and sugarplum pie, could this be the first holiday she doesn’t spend alone?

Christmas at Fireside Cabins by Jenny Hale is a contemporary romance read. This book of course as the title indicants takes place during the Christmas holiday season starting in early December and leading up to the holiday.

Christmas is always a tough time for Lila Evans having lost her father during the holidays. This year Lila has planned a trip for herself and three of her closest friends planning for them to spend December in Pinewood Hills, Tennessee surrounded by the beautiful snowy countryside at the Fireside Cabins.

After the ladies arrive at the Fireside Cabins however they find that the rentals look nothing like advertised. After meeting the owner, Eleanor Finely, and finding the business is in danger of closing Lila and her friends can’t just leave. Lila decides she is going to do whatever she can to help the struggling business as she falls in love with the town and residents, other than the grumpy coffee shop owner, Theo Perry.

Christmas at Fireside Cabins was a lot more than just romance dealing with family and friends both old and new coming together during the season of giving. There were plenty of Christmas activities to remind one of the season and plenty of spirit in the characters to pull me into the read. The setting in this one also made a wonderful place to imagine spending the holidays as the entire town seemed to be involved in the festivities bringing the season to life.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

Romance, friendship, and holiday cheer. Jenny Hail is truly the queen of the cozy romance. Lila and her three friends head to small town Tennessee to spend the holidays in a quaint cottage. However when they get there the cottage is not quite as advertised. But after meeting Eleanor the owner of the cottages Lila recognizes a kindred lonely soul and insists that they stay. What follows is a sweet story full of festivd activities, found family, healing, and romance. Lila was a wonderful character with such a huge heart. Theo Took me a little longer to warm up to, but I knew under all that grump was a good guy. Loved all the fun festive Christmas activities this small town had to offer. There was such a comfortable warm holiday vibe to this story. This is the perfect book to cuddle up with a cozy blanket and cup of hot chocolate with.

Традицията повелява - Коледа започва с роман на Джени Хейл. 😁 Уви, традицията в коледните романи на Хейл също продължава и те продължават да стават единствено за приспиване.🥱😴

I'm rounding this one up to 3 stars.

I've read all of this author's books that take place around Christmas and, for the most part, I've enjoyed each. But this author's style is the type that loses some of the holiday sparkle with each book because there is so much of the same formula to them. There is always some deep relationship that happens in a matter of days, believable or not. There is almost always a situation that would need copious amounts of money to accomplish with a barely plausible explanation of how the financial aspect just happens to work out. There is always a female protagonist who, in a realistic setting, would probably come off as annoying and obsessive.

Now, not wanting to be a Grinch here, I am going to say that somehow (at least when it comes to her holiday books) I am always able to observe these implausabilities and unrealistic happenings and then ignore them and just enjoy the story for what it is -- a cozy holiday book that just wants you to feel good at the end. These books are a lot like the cheesy holiday Hallmark Channel Christmas movies (which is why several of her books have already been adapted into said movies), so if you enjoy them, you will enjoy her books. This reader absolutely does enjoy those things, so I will once again shut my brain down when it starts saying, "Yeah, but how could...? What about...? Does that make sense?" etc, and just enjoy the book for what it is.

Have you ever stayed in a cabin at Christmas?

Christmas at Fireside Cabins by Jenny Hale (book review)

This book is the perfect cozy Christmas read. It is full of humor and warmth. The author approaches serious subject matter with care. It is well written and highly enjoyable.

Synopsis:
After losing her father, Christmas is especially difficult for Lila Evans. Luckily she has three friends that she spends time with during the holidays. This Christmas they are staying in Pinewood Hills, a quaint resort found online. The girls are all very excited about the trip and all the fun that awaits them. What could possibly happen?

Unfortunately, Theo Perry, the owner of a small shop where they stop for coffee on the way to the cabin, greets Lila with a cold welcome. Next, there are a few problems with the cabin, but it is owned by an elderly widow who is very warm and inviting. It doesn't take long for the girls to realize this may not be the "perfect get-away" they'd been planning.

Thank you Read Forever Pub, Hachette Book Group, and Jenny Hale for sending me this cozy book. Your kindness is appreciated!

I always spend the holiday season reading fluffy Christmas stories to get me in the spirit. I’m generally not too tough with my ratings since I’m obviously not looking for amazing literature, but this book was awful.

The main character lacks emotional maturity and has no respect for the clearly stated boundaries of the people around her. Even after she’s been asked to leave people alone, she continues to barge into their lives because she, of course, knows what’s best for them. In real life, we’d call her a stalker.

Mere days after meeting new friends she’s already quit her job and ready to build a new life around them. It’s painful to read.

She’s also overly dramatic, and every time she’s not in sight of a friend she feels alone in the world. At one point she believes the entire town’s Christmas will be ruined if they can’t get peppermint lattes at the local coffee shop.

Aside from that, this book could really have used an editor to clean up some of the details. There are several major continuity issues with the plot where timelines don’t make sense and lots of little inaccurate technical nuts and bolts that made me cringe (like the process of making a yeast dough, or the fact that you wouldn’t have running water in a house where a plumber was in the middle of replacing sections of pipe).

Between the insufferable protagonist and the numerous inaccuracies in the details, this book annoyed me from start to finish.

Having just returned from a vacation in Tennessee I could clearly picture all the descriptions in the book. Tennessee is a state that draws you in with it's natural beauty just like described in the Fireside Cabins and once here you'll want to stay.
Friends are vacationing in the rugged mountains of Tennessee in cabins that have seen better days.
After her husband dies the property owner is in deep debt and can not afford all the costly repairs to the cabins but can't give them up either due to the memory of when they were fresh and new and her husband ran them.
Lila Evans knows that vacationing at Fireside Cabins will help alleviate the pain of losing her father but what she doesn't count on is falling for the local coffee shop owner and getting involved in the mystery surrounding him and then finding out who he really is.
Can these cabin vacationers work a little holiday magic before the cabin's proprietor is forced to close for good right at Christmas time?
Heartwarming holiday magic you'll want to read. I enjoyed it a lot.

Christmas at Fireside Cabins is Jenny Hale’s last year’s release and such a cute Christmas mystery/romance novel that showcases a grumpy male lead and optimistic, Christmas-loving female protagonist.

Lila Evans is having a hard time facing Christmas after losing her father and finding herself family-less, though she’s intrinsically optimistic. She’s also struggling to figure out what she wants to do with her life, though she knows she finds great joy in helping others. In need of her faithful friends by her side, she organizes a girls’ trip to the Fireside Cabins in the hills of Tennessee, and though they are nothing like what was advertised, the experience proves to be far more than she bargained for.

The slow-burn romance between she and the brooding, moody, closed-mouth coffee shop owner, who occasionally shows glimmers of another side, is stubbornly hopeful, and saturated in mystery. This story speaks to the depth of female friendship, the power of helping others, and the payoff of persistence. It’s sweet, festive, and feel-good. I definitely need a girls group and a precious elderly Eleanor in my life! This story warmed my heart and was a delightful read.

Four friends, during the busiest time in each of their lives, follow their tradition to escape for a week over Christmas to celebrate the holiday with their chosen family. Lila Evans has selected a nearby idyllic town of Pinewood Hills in Tennessee for their escape, but she had no clue the cabins listed online were nothing like the photos. Lila, though, has a kind heart and sees the good in everything, even the grumpy, gorgeous coffee shop owner they irk from day one and the crumbling cabins. Lila knows what loneliness is and she's sees it in the cabin owner, Eleanor, and she sees it in Theo, as he purposely keeps almond milk away from her coffee. While the holiday week slowly falls apart, Lila finds a place for herself in the small town, amongst the locals, in the cabins, and alongside Theo, despite his surly attitude and big secrets. Lila wonders if she has finally found her place, when Theo's secrets bring it all down around her.

This story was such a fun Christmas book, totally unique in a sea of holiday romance reads. Jenny Hale gives readers holiday cheer, romance, enemies-to-lovers, and even some stardom drama too. There's a lot happening in Christmas at Fireside Cabins, but it isn't overwhelming. With perfect pacing, plenty of details, and never a dull moment, Christmas at Fireside Cabins is a cheerful read that feels authentic, while still bursting with the clichés I love in my holiday romances.

That was... absurd. I can’t really get into it since it’s full-blown spoilers about the ~mystery man~ and his history but I have no idea why all of that was logical here. It felt out of place in a Christmas story and very over the top in general. I’m bummed because the first chapter and characters didn’t jive with me initially but the next handful were SUPER FESTIVE and enjoyable. Then there was a random turning point where Christmas was nonexistent and wild things happened. And then it got somewhat Christmassy again at the end? Overall really not my cup of tea compared to her others.

Christmas 2020 - Nice!

Imagine going away every Christmas with your three closest girlfriends! None of you have family nearby, so you pick a Christmas-y location, bring a tree, decorations, wine, and all kinds of yummy things to eat; each day you pick an adventure like sleigh riding, touring a Christmas tree farm, etc.; and you just enjoy the hell out of each others company. Although I love the family aspect of Christmas, that sounds like a little slice of alternative heaven for someone who isn't blessed with a big family.

Lila and her three best friends (none of them were very well developed and don't stand out in my mind) have been doing this for years; but now their lives are all taking different directions. They plan to make their last Christmas together one to remember! They book a cosy place called Fireside Cabins in the Tennessee mountains. While the cabin doesn't turn out to be exactly as advertised, they fall in love with the area and have a great time.

Lila ends up falling for Theo, the mysterious, surly owner of the local coffee shop. He has a whole bunch of secrets. Honestly, that was the weak link of the story for me - Theo's problems were way too convoluted for me and I couldn't follow exactly what the problem was. But anyway, their romance grows slowly and sweetly, and the inevitable Christmas miracle is as delightful as it is implausible.

I love Christmas stories that deal with love, family, friends and community. I also love Jenny Hale's writing, so I definitely enjoyed this one. When Lila Evans and her three friends decide to get in their girl's holiday getaway in early December, they head off to Pinewood Hills to stay at Fireside Cabins. Well, the cabins definitely presented better on the website, but they do not want to disappoint the owner, Eleanor, who was thrilled to see them when they checked in. Never did they expect that only Lila would remain behind as they all got called away. Lila feels that she has finally found a place where she belongs and with a handsome man, it might just be her happily ever after.

This was a beautiful Christmas story taking place in a small town with an amazingly supportive and loving community. I loved all the activities and businesses that had Christmas activities for the ladies to participate in. As well as the traditions and activities, there is the coffee shop, called Coffee. This is where Theo works and where Lila fell for him. Theo has a lot of baggage and a lot of secrets to deal with. Eleanor was an amazing character. That grandma figure who just makes everything work. One of my favourite characters is five year old Rex. Who wouldn't love a man who charms a little boy, and who earns his trust. With lots of decoration, goodies and gifts the Christmas spirit entered my heart. The story isn't all happy and fluff though. Both Lila and Theo have personal journeys they need to take. They need to figure out what they want out of life and make it happen. Theo has a lot of anger and he needs to forgive a lot of people, but Lila helps him along the way. As everyone rallies behind the couple, they learn to depend on others and make their dreams come true. A wonderful story with a happy ending that is perfect for demonstrating Christmas Magic. I was gifted a copy of this book upon request. The rating and opinions shared are mhy own.

I would like to preface this review by saying that I am a longtime fan of both Christmas romance novels and hallmark movies.

That being said, the storyline of this book crosses the line of appropriateness by having a lonely girl who clearly states she has abandonment issues repeatedly chasing after, texting and calling a man who has stated on more than one occasion that he wants nothing to do with her. I just don’t see how this falls into the category of “romance.” At one point in the book she is almost obsessively stalking him, a man that she met a mere three days earlier and who has since disappeared and subsequently canceled his phone number. How many more signs does she need?! And yet, she perseveres “trusting her gut” that “this guy is more than the stories she’s heard about him.” Yikes.

I don’t want to give this story one star because someone put time, energy, good intentions and an obvious love of the holidays into this book, but the story is so far-fetched it borders on ridiculous and then crosses right over into inappropriate by having the main character be so desperate and needy and portraying that as “loving.” There’s a lot that a psychologist could unpack in this story but it is not something that I would let my daughter read because, even for it’s genre, it goes well beyond the limit of what is acceptable behaviour for a female lead in this particular situation.

Do not recommend.

This is my second novel by Jenny Hale. The attractive cover design of this one caught my eye and I thought the premise of the book sounded wonderful. Christmas at Fireside Cabins was a charming story and I especially liked the main character, lonely Lila Evans, to whom I could really relate. She was caring, determined and rather sweet and I loved the author's descriptions of the town and the various holiday events on offer in Pinewood Hills within the Tennessee hills.

Christmas at Fireside Cabins was a wonderful story about friendship - both old and new - and love. Lila and her small group of friends welcomed Eleanor Finely, the widowed owner of the Fireside Cabins into their circle of friendship, and that made for a heartwarming holiday story. Jenny Hale continued to impress me with her wonderful writing style, helping to bring this festive story to life. All of the characters were well created and developed and, aside from Lila, I liked the passages that included the grumpy and enigmatic coffee shop owner, Theo Perry. The Christmas theme was enchanting with its festive allure and the story's overall tone was so snug and uplifting. This was a beautifully articulated, glowing story of community spirit, dreams, taking risks, enjoying life and living in the moment. Dashes of sparkling romance kept things fizzing and everything was wrapped up very nicely in the end. A wonderful read with a really strong Christmas feel, this is a festive novel that I will certainly be recommending to friends and family.

3.5 rounded up! {Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the advanced digital copy in exchange for my honest review.}

Christmas at Fireside Cabins was my first book by Jenny Hale, and it did not disappoint. I actually went in with expectations of a fluffy holiday romance, and this was much more. Lila's past made my heart ache, and Theo's personal journey was such a test of their bond.

The location description was charming, and there was some great sassy banter that left a smile on my face. Once in a while, the troubles of their past seemed a tad too dramatic to get wrapped up that quickly - that would be my only negative.

Overall, it was an unexpectedly strong personal journey for both, with some holiday warmth, strong friends, a found family, and the sweet happy every after we all want at the holidays.

Fall in love with Fireside Cabins, Lila and her friends!

With a supportive network of girls around her Lila finds Christmas that more bearable without her family as the girls take a break each year. This year's choice is Fireside Cabins and the owner Eleanor, plus distant, grumpy Theo at the coffee shop are about to change Lila's world.

A festive romance about relationships in all it's forms with those closest to you - friends, family and romance.

Lila has a heart of gold wanting to help Eleanor renovate the Cabins and sprinkling Christmas magic decorating for the holiday season.

A fresh take on romance during the Christmas season. A few twists I didn't see coming that made for a page-turning novel. With every chapter, I felt the ambiance of Eleanor's cabins and the desire of what once was and what could be again. Grab a cup of coffee, and wait for Theo's character to warm up - he's rough on the edges at first. If you're looking for a cozy romantic read this one is for you.

This was a quick book, perfect to get you in the holiday spirit. Fireside Cabins and the surrounding town sounds like the perfect vacation spot.
The story was interesting, it did seem to rush towards the end. I enjoyed the story
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the early copy

Christmas at Fireside Cabins by Jenny Hale is an absolute delight. We follow Lila as she and her three best friends head to a cabin for a Christmas girls trip. However, the trip doesn’t go as planned as the cabin is run down. They decide to stay as the owner of Fireside Cabins, Eleanor, is so excited to have guests as the business hasn’t been doing well since her husband passed away. Lila also meets a mysterious and grumpy coffee shop owner, Theo, that she can’t help but be drawn to. She wants to know more about him and his past, as no one in town seems to know much about him. We follow Lila to see if she can save Fireside Cabins and find where she truly belongs.

This has been the most enjoyable Christmas romance I have read to date. This book has the perfect combination of everything I want in a Christmas story: a charming small town setting, festive activities, a hopeful Christmas wish, and a sweet romance. The writing style was immersive, which kept me reading to experience all the Christmas and cozy vibes. I also love that there was a mystery aspect to learn more about Theo. There was the perfect amount of drama and intrigue. My favorite part of this book was Lila’s relationships with her three best friends as they were such a supportive and fun friend group.

Overall, this is a heartwarming read to curl up with this holiday season. It is best enjoyed with a peppermint latte and a cozy blanket with some Christmas classics playing in the background.
