Lost... but in space
I'm convinced JJ Abrams wrote this. Unreliable characters, mysteries upon mysteries, and more questions asked than answered.
The first third of the book is very confusing. There's clearly a lot of history that is important to the story, but it isn't explained until the middle of the novel. It makes it very difficult to get into the novel and understand what is going on and why. Each character has their own motivation to get onto the Goliath, but there's no character that you really want to root for. Each has their own flaws and none of them are particularly likeable. Sollander is probably the best simply because she isn't a "bad guy", but st the same time she has no personality.
Once inside the ship, I definitely got Event Horizon vibes, but in the end Event Horizon was much better. There were a ton of mysteries and questions here, but more often than not, they didn't get resolved. There was a ton of potential but it never followed through.
The final twist was interesting but ultimately made no sense. I think the secret would have been discovered or figured out sooner.
Overall it was a decent book but I think it could have been a lot better
