His writings cover a broad range of subjects spanning the natural sciences, philosophy, linguistics, economics, politics, psychology, and the arts. As the founder of the Peripatetic school of philosophy in the Lyceum in Athens, he began the wider Aristotelian tradition that followed, which set the groundwork for the development of modern science.
Little is known about Aristotle's life. He was born in the city of Stagira in northern Greece during the Classical period. His father, Nicomachus, died when Aristotle was a child, and he was brought up by a guardian. At 17 or 18, he joined Plato's Academy in Athens and remained there until the age of 37 (c. 347 BC). Shortly after Plato died, Aristotle left Athens and, at the request of Philip II of Macedon, tutored his son Alexander the Great beginning in 343 BC. He established a library in the Lyceum, which helped him to produce many of his hundreds of books on papyrus scrolls.
Though Aristotle wrote many treatises and dialogues for publication, only around a third of his original output has survived, none of it intended for publication. Aristotle provided a complex synthesis of the various philosophies existing prior to him. His teachings and methods of inquiry have had a significant impact across the world, and remain a subject of contemporary philosophical discussion.
Aristotle's views profoundly shaped medieval scholarship. The influence of his physical science extended from late antiquity and the Early Middle Ages into the Renaissance, and was not replaced systematically until the Enlightenment and theories such as classical mechanics were developed. He influenced Judeo-Islamic philosophies during the Middle Ages, as well as Christian theology, especially the Neoplatonism of the Early Church and the scholastic tradition of the Catholic Church.
Aristotle was revered among medieval Muslim scholars as "The First Teacher", and among medieval Christians like Thomas Aquinas as simply "The Philosopher", while the poet Dante Alighieri called him "the master of those who know". His works contain the earliest known formal study of logic, and were studied by medieval scholars such as Pierre Abélard and Jean Buridan. Aristotle's influence on logic continued well into the 19th century. In addition, his ethics, although always influential, gained renewed interest with the modern advent of virtue ethics.

9 o 9.5. Su unico problema es lo repetitivo que es, sin embargo Aristoteles tiene una agudeza gigante sobre la naturaleza humana. LIBRAZO

En la Ética a Nicómaco hay aspectos conceptualmente muy valiosos, pero también limitaciones claras.
El tratamiento de las virtudes como término medio entre extremos es interesante como marco general, aunque en muchos pasajes ese “término medio” resulta ambiguo: más que una posición equilibrada, a veces parece otro extremo encubierto, lo que debilita su fuerza normativa.
Uno de los puntos que más rescato es el análisis de la voluntariedad. La distinción entre actos voluntarios e involuntarios está bien desarrollada y permite comprender mejor la responsabilidad moral. En ese sentido, expone incluso una debilidad clásica del estoicismo: no siempre está claro cuándo hay verdadera voluntad y cuándo no.
El desarrollo sobre la amistad es probablemente lo más rico de la obra. La clasificación entre amistad por interés, por placer, por virtud, así como la reflexión sobre la compatibilidad entre distintos tipos de amistad o incluso la amistad entre personas moralmente malas, ofrece un análisis sorprendentemente actual.
Como crítica general, la obra resulta excesivamente repetitiva y se percibe con claridad el marco filosófico desde el que escribe. Funciona bien como texto introductorio, pero no siempre alcanza profundidad conceptual sostenida. También es evidente su distancia crítica respecto de Platón, algo que atraviesa buena parte del desarrollo ético.

Ética aristotélica básica... Imperdible.

Essa deve ser provavelmente a obra mais completa de Aristóteles.
Visando tratar da felicidade do homem, perpassa pelo que diferencia o homem para com os outros animais, elemento tá alma em excelência completa, o definir do prazer e do bem, assim como as constituições de sociedade que fornecem o melhor retorno social e pessoal de felicidade, ao final da ética eudemica trata até mesmo sobre que é capaz de fornecer o impulso inicial para as atividades e a diferenciação do homem, movido por partes que mandam para um fim, de Deus, que com o fim em vista fornece ordens. Sem excluir evidentemente a tese central que se chega ainda na nicomáqueia, na qual a virtude não se encontra em um contrário de uma má postura mas entre duas, a exemplo o corajoso é o termo entre o imprudente e o covarde.
Outros temas: definição de riqueza(não pode ser o bem em si mas meio), dinheiro (Mediador que torna as coisas mensuráveis, sem troca sem comunidade e sem igualdade sem troca) e valor (definido por alguém que não possui).
Ato de cometer injustiças, os desejos em si próprio, tal como a amizade, as leis devem existir para direcionar os bons atos, ato de deliberar se da para os meios, temperança e os praxes e a vil perseguição dos excessos.
Ética Edemica

This is a book that all men should read and/or listen to. If you desire to listen to it, the beauty of those version is beyond compare. The reader does a most excellent job, causing the entire experience to be enjoyable. As for the wisdom of Aristotle, it is clear why his teachings have been in more or less constant use for over 2000 years. In going through Nicomachean Ethics, one will see how much the Western world was formed by him.
For hundreds of years in the East, as well, the wisdom of Aristotle was a mainstay. From the Christians before the dawn of Islam, especially at the monastery of Qenneshre in modern Iraq through Sergius of Reshaina, through the next 400 years until the conquest of the Arabs.
Then, the Muslims, through great minds like Al Fārābī, Avicenna and Averoes, Aristotle, for a few centuries, was informing a non-fundamentalist group of Muslims. A shame those were not they who won out in antiquity.
The philosophy of Aristotle has had enormous impact on Christianity, paganism, Islam, Judaism and even on some atheists. It is now clear to me why he is simply known as, “The Philosopher”. I am now a dedicated follower of The Philosopher.

Una lectura fundamental para entender el pensamiento ético de Aristóteles. No es un libro sencillo ni rápido, pero leído con calma ofrece una reflexión muy profunda sobre qué es la virtud y cuál es el papel de la razón en nuestras decisiones.
Una de las ideas que más destacan es la búsqueda del punto medio, la virtud como equilibrio entre el exceso y el defecto, siempre en relación con cada persona y cada situación concreta. Aristóteles no propone normas rígidas, sino una ética práctica basada en el hábito, la razón y la experiencia.
Leer juntas la Ética a Nicómaco y la Ética eudemia ayuda a captar mejor estos matices. La primera es más sistemática y desarrollada, mientras que la segunda es algo más directa y en algunos puntos más cercana.
La edición de Gredos está muy cuidada y facilita mucho la comprensión del texto, tanto por la claridad como por las notas, que ayudan a seguir el texto y a situarlo en su contexto.

I got to this one 2 ways- 1 through a reading challenge and 2 through a quote at the beginning of a chapter in The Remorseful Day by Colin Dexter.
This seemed surprisingly accessible at first, but read a lot longer the further I got into it. He covered topics thoroughly and seemed to touch on geometry amongst his discussion of ethics, governments, and friendship. I only read the Nichomachean Ethics portion. I'd read elsewhere that the Eudemion Ethics was an earlier work and not quite as fleshed out.
It was written in 350BC and it was strange to think about his world compared to ours today.
I read this as part of the Literary Life's Books of the Centuries challenge (repeating 2024's challenge, but this time in order) and I'm excited to see everything building on each other.

Creo que es un libro que tiene que estudiarse con cuidado o corres el riesgo de pasar por alto muchísimos detalles. Aunque aristotoles no era poseedor de la verdad absoluta en muchas cuestiones se acerca muchísimo, a pesar de que han pasado más de 2,000 años de que vivió. Con el tiempo tendré que releerlo por partes y con más calma.
