Will she be able to see past her heartbreak ...

Sure there is something with these Farthingales and Braydens.
But those Farthingales are too in love with the notion of love, they often mistake the feeling with a man’s attention.
And Dahlia is no different, she blinded herself to a man’s true nature because she desperately wanted to be in love. When it was right there, in front of her, if she is willing to open her eyes and her heart.
Then everything and hopefully went crashing down. But wow how dense at time she was! He tells and tells again he cares for her but she is only relying on her hurt pride.
Ronan is a sweetheart, a shoulder for her to cry, a fist to defend her, a heart to love her.
As all the Braydens, he falls fast and loves strongly. He never doubts his feelings and always tries to reassure her she has no flaws and is not at fault for her ex-suitor’s betrayal. But she does pave an easy road for him.

This is a cute tale with a swoonworthy hero and his love interest, and it is nice to revisit again their many relatives.
Yet I would have loved to see the culprit behind the broken glass caught, and the peers sanctioned for their ill decisions.

I just can’t get enough of this series and of the Brayden boys , be still my heart.
Meara goes all out once again to give us another wonderfully satisfying Lady and Gentleman, making our hearts beat faster and enticing our imaginations.

Dahlia and Ronan will give you just as much fun , passion and romance as any of the other couples in this series.
A Naval Captain and a beautiful and kind hearted Farthingale light up the pages , tension, chemistry that’s off the charts and enjoyable banter keep you turning pages.
Also we meet many of the family again, most of who have stared in their own books.

I love that Joshua has a quick remark about the fond memories he has from a certain house, could he mean a certain bath scene from the last book?
I can’t think of anything else that could put such a cat-ate-the-canary grin on his face .
If you haven’t read that book yet you don’t know what your missing.

This series has it all, I highly recommend them all.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

The Farthingale and Brayden families have already made a name for themselves and in this witty Regency romance, they once more come to the fore. Dahlia Farthingale thought her future was secure, having been romanced by Lord Wainscott for months, but she is jolted into reality when she discovers him in a compromising position with another woman. Not only did he betray her, but he then goes on to berate and abuse her in the most abominable way. Fortunately, Captain Ronan Brayden is there to serve up justice and to whisk her away before she can be further embarrassed. Ronan has been in love with Dahlia for some time but realises that if he is to win her over, he needs to mount a military campaign to woo her. The Book of Love is the first step in his plan, as he spends time with Dahlia reading and discussing the book together with her. The second is at the risk of sending his mother into a raging outburst, but to his surprise, she instead offers to help him. Unfortunately, not everything goes to plan as disaster overtakes his plans and Ronan has to ride out to avert another tragedy. Whilst I loved Captain Ronan Brayden from the first, I had difficulty in warming up to Dahlia as she seemed to be a rather oversensitive young lady. However, once she got over her shock and disappointment, she in fact turns out to be witty, resourceful, and entertaining. I found the comment on the political situation in the country at the time very interesting, especially the promise of the changes that were to come. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading the next book in this series. I received a copy of this novel through NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I can’t believe this is the eighth book in this brilliant series, it could be read on its own but to fully appreciate it I’d recommend reading from the start as the Farthingales & Braydens are an absolute delight. A very well written book that I read in two sittings & stayed awake until the small hours to finish it as no way could I put it down. Strong characters & a story that flowed effortlessly. Ronan is everything you want in a hero & is just toe curlingly lovely. It took me a little while to fully warm to Dahlia but the more I read the more I liked her. The road to their HEA wasn’t smooth but it did make for an entertaining, engrossing read
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Miss Dahlia Farthingale thought the Book of Love would bring her a perfect suitor, just like it has for the other women in her family. Instead, the man who was courting her cruelly embarrassed her at a family party. Captain Ronan Brayden sweeps in, but Dahlia is suspicious that a man who could have his choice of women would want her.

This is the eighth story in The Book of Love series. Many family members make appearances and each book flows into the next. I love the way Platt starts her stories! They always jump right in and engage me. But, as with the last book, my interest waned during the second half. Brayden calls Dahlia by the nickname "Queen Pea" in reference to an event at the beginning of the book and, by the end, I simply couldn't take it anymore because it was SO overdone. The repetition of not only the nickname but other parts in the book lowered my enjoyment.

The Gift of Love is a low angst, sweet book in Meara Platt's Book of Love series. Though this is book number 8, it can be enjoyed as a stand alone.

I've read one other book by this author and my take away was the same as with this book - an enjoyable enough story with good characters. But nice, good characters don't always make for the most interesting read.

Dahlia Farthingale has her turn at reading the Book of Love, the tome with "magical" powers that has brought so many of her cousins and sisters true love, many with the boys from another family, the Braydens. Dahlia came across as very young. It took me a while to warm up to her because she did nothing but weep and simper at the beginning over a humiliation at the hands of a man (Gerald, I think, he was pretty boring for a "villain" so I can't even remember his name) who she thought may one day ask for her hand in marriage. She admitted she never loved this man, but thought that he would be the only one to ask for her.

Captain Ronan Brayden of the Royal Navy comes to her rescue. He's been in love with Dahlia since the first day they met. I did like that in this tale the man was completely besotted and had to plot how to get the girl in the end.

So, yada yada yada, they read the book together. They talk a lot about their feelings. A lot of talk. At least they're honest with each other. And they fall in love. There were a few kissing scenes and a very brief, non-explicit love scene at the very end. There wasn't much standing in their way, most action happened off the page. Gerald (if that's his name) was hardly villainous, and I wish there was more with him actually. There was a scene where all he did was follow Dahlia out to a terrace, look at her, then walk away when Ronan growled at him. Yep, growled. There was also a scene where a rock was thrown through a window that could have been taken as a threat, but nothing happened with that story angle.

There subplot with a Duke and his daughter that seemed very contrived and really ended up going nowhere as well. I would actually like to read the story of the Duke's daughter who falls in love with her father's crippled land steward.

I did like the character of burly Scotsman, Robbie, and his infatuation with the youngest Farthingale sister, Heather. The epilogue appears to be heading right into that book. Hopefully there are a bit more obstacles for Robbie and Heather to overcome to get their happily ever after.

There are many, many references to other couples from other books (and other series). This is a huge world with several families that just keep intermarrying.

Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced readers copy. My review and opinions are freely given.

The Gift of Love by Meara Platt is another in the Book of Love series, in which the central character is a book. It appears to be a harmless book describing what love is, but anyone who comes in contact with it knows it is so much more. Dahlia Farthingale is attending her sister's party and has just gotten the pea embedded in the Twelfth Night cake. True Twelfth Night is a ways in the future, but it's all good fun. Captain Ronan Brayden has come upon the bean so they are crowned King and Queen of the party. The guests clamber for a kiss and then a dance. Dahlia's young man, Gerald Wainscott, glares at her through the entire process. Later, as she is reviewing the evening, Dahlia sees Gerald enter the library. As they have had little time together, she follows, where she sees Gerald, his pants around his ankles, and Lady Alexandra Minton, her skirt around her waist. Shocked, Dahlia makes a sound. Unembarrassed to have been discovered, Gerald dresses, and informs her that he and Alexandra are betrothed, the contracts having just been signed. He is insulting and rude. Dahlia is heartbroken. Ronan is there to pick up the pieces. They begin by reading the Book of Love together.

A terrific series, The Gift of Love is a perfect addition. The book, not as magic this time, serves to distance Dahlia from her heartbreak. She is the perfect heroine, growing each day as a person. Captain Brayden is a strong and wonderful character, willing to protect and comfort. The family is all there; the family we have grown to love through the previous books. Love is everywhere. Dahlia doesn't see it; Ronan does. The mood, the setting, the characters are all perfect. This is an enchanting book. Platt's fans will love it. The Book of Love is still working its magic.

I was invited to read a free ARC of The Gift of Love by Dragonblade, through Netgalley. All opinions and interpretations contained herein are solely my own. #netgalley #thegiftoflove

Love will find you

Dahlia and Ronan who would have thought? Unfortunately Dahlia thought she was being courted by a complaining and exacting man who constantly made fun of her! Dahlia follows him into the library and Ronan was hard on her heels and see her "almost betrothed" with pants around his ankles and an Earls daughter dress up around her waist! After scathing and humiliating comments uttered at Dahlia in front of all the guests Ronan did punch him in the nose! This almost fiance debacle ends in a disgrace why did people feel sorry for her? They should have thrown her a party for getting rid of the worm!! Ronan had secretly admired Dahlia but stood in the background as her guardian! Dahlia self worth and self esteem is very bruised and Ronan knows he has to proceed with caution! They began to read the book together and Dahlia quickly realizes that she has a lucky escape as nothing in the book applies to her ex! It all applies to Ronan! There are several odd incidents with him later in the story that are vague and unexplained including a rock? But I love the Braydens and Farthingdales so there is that! Ronan might have sown a few wild oats and becomes a hero but once a Brayden aka Wildeebeast falls well all bets are off!!! Will this be another hasty trip to the altar or will they defy tradition when Ronan is injured? What happened with the broken glass? Read on...

Oh dear - we are down to the last Brayden son! Despite his best intentions, when the yuletide cake's King Bean, Ronin Brayden, accidentally kisses the lips of Queen Pea, Dahlia Farthingale, his heart knows the Book of Love has begun working its magic.

But Dahlia suffers heartbreak and public humiliation when the lord who has led her to expect his proposal is caught with his pants down and another woman he announces as his betrothed. But Ronin strategizes a plan: agree as a friend only to read the Book of Love with Dahlia so she can have faith in men again, and buy a house that Dahlia can volunteer to decorate for him; then when she grows to trust him, declare his feelings and move into formal courtship. Good plan.

Just saying: the line ending Chapter 3, "What could possibly go wrong?" made me laugh out loud! Anyone familiar with this series knows the answer: whatever Meara's creative imagination allows! So this plot fills with complications to Ronin's plan, including: a courtship forced by the Admiralty to secure passage of the naval budget, oddly threatening behavior of the man who spurned Dahlia, an elite navy ship grounded and blocking the Thames, and life threatening injuries.

As usual for this series, Meara writes humor into the conversations and relationship development scenes. I loved Dahlia's reaction to her episodes of sexual awareness with Ronin: "she eeped." Such a fun expression - "eep"! Of course, the family circus type gatherings of Braydens and Farthingales are priceless. Oh dear, what will happen to controlling mother Miranda Brayden now that she has an empty nest? Miranda needs a man in the house, Meara......please.

This book should delight readers who enjoy unique characters and situations in entertaining historical romance where love trumps sex every time. I eagerly await Meara's next book

I was so looking forward to reading this book. Miss Dahlia Farthingale thought the Book of Love would bring her a perfect suitor, but when Captain Ronan Brayden professes his feelings for her, she is doubtful that any man would want her especially since her last beau humiliated and debased her so publicly.

I loved the beginning of this story. It drew me in, but unfortunately, I thought the story went downhill from there. Ronan was an honorable suitor and I would have liked it if he actually called Dahlia by her given name instead of always addressing her as Queen Pea. That got old real quick. Not much happens in the book until the very end. By then I was skipping paragraphs just to see what happens. Dahlia's former suitor is cast as the villain, but he's not much of a villain. He does a lot of lurking and there is a situation at the end that points to him although it's not clearly defined.

This was not my favorite in this series. I thought it could use more "meat" to the plot instead of just having the H and h declare their love. There were no obstacles in their way and that took away from my interest in the story.

I voluntarily read the advanced reader copy and all opinions are my own.

4.5 STARS

This series is always a pre-order for me and I'm looking forward to Robbie and Heather's story.

This is a stand alone story but it will have more meaning because two large families are intertwined. This is about The Book of Love. Seems everyone who reads it falls in love with the person who they kiss. Something magical going on?

I wish the villain would have gotten his just desserts in this story, but he doesn't, nor do the stupid men who make up Parliament. People who have no business being in charge of military are. The results were serious. But, because our H was injured the h realized her feelings for me.

There is more suspense in this and couple more stories than with just our H/h which I enjoyed. There is lovemaking, within marriage, heat level 2.5 out of 5 if that, and only described once. I felt a connection to this couple and enjoyed their conversations and his nickname for her.

We are treated to a sweet epilogue a few months in the future. No cliffhanger for our main couple, but you will wonder what is the outcome for Heather and Robbie.

No cheating, HEA, romance and a small tad of spice. (ljb)

Oh no, this is the final Brayden son! Ronan is the baby of the Brayden family - he is a Captain in the Royal Navy, he is handsome, and besides keeping a protective eye on Dahlia Farthingale, he was secretly in love with her, but she is betrothed to Lord Wainscott & Ronan would not make his feelings known.

Dahlia is next in line to read the Book of Love and she is sure the magic of the book will find her married to a perfect lord but that was not to be as her perfect lord ended their relationship by humiliating her in front of her family & friends. Ronan was there at her side to help ease her humiliation and pain.

Ronan took the uphill battle of winning Dahlia's favor & they became more than friends - although Dahlia is just too sweet to think anything but friendship & protection of her on Ronan's part. Their romp to a HEA is fill with fun, hilarious happenings & banter, wonderful family interference & a romantic courtship.

I have loved all the books in this series & I feel so connected to both the Farthingale's & Brayden's & I know there will be more wonderful stories from Meara Platt in the future. I highly recommend this entire series - I know you will love them too!

Another enjoyable read about the book of love bringing two people together. Love strikes when least expected and one does not always realize it. Dahlia believed herself to be in love but was betrayed and embarrassed by a man who was only thinking of himself. Ronan is a captain in the navy and is determined to make Dahlia his after he kisses her, for she found the pea and he found the bean, and he knows after that kiss she is the one for him. Getting Dahlia to realize Ronan in the right man for her will be a challenge, but a Brayden does not give up and they are protectors. Reading the book together allows Ronan and Dahlia to see each other more deeply, but will Dahlia let go of her past heartbreak to see Ronan has been the man for her along?
I received this novel from net galley and the publisher. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Dahlia Farthingale doesn't need to read the "Book of Love" that is being passed around the family because she already has someone who has been writing her love letters.  Unfortunately that could mean she has missed vital information. Our sweet heroine takes a serious blow to her self-confidence.

Captain Ronan Brayden holds an important post in the Royal Navy and he needs to persuade men of influence to vote his way.  That might not happen if certain rumors persist.

Our brave hero knows exactly what he wants and how to get it.

Lots of innocent fun with a beautiful love story.

This sweet historical romance is part of a series where each book can be read on it's own but it involves the same two wonderful families you will meet in each one.

The “Book of Love”, is now in possession of Dahlia Farthingale. Hoping it will work is magic for her, Dahlia was waiting for her classy lord to ask the marriage question any day now. However, he decided to dabble with another woman and out caught with his pants down. Poor Dahlia, she believes that no one will want her after such a display of rudeness done to her. However, Captain Ronan Brayden, was bound and determined that would not happen to her. They decided that they would read and discuss the book together. Ronan had his work cut out for him as he believed that she was the only one for him. What a delightful story line, great characters, and interesting situations they find themselves in. I genuinely enjoyed this book and the series.

I received a free copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Such a sweet story!! I liked the switch up from previous stories in this series. This time, he’s the one in love with her and she’s the one being quietly wooed. She’s expecting a betrothal that never comes, from a man who doesn’t have any decency. Personally, I thought the first beau would make more of a ruckus throughout the story, but he really didn’t. The bulk of the story is split between his work issues with his own false relationship (not his idea) and what he’s trying to foster with his Queen Pea. I really hope there is a story in the future for Lady M- I think that would interesting to read as well. This was really just good sweet fun, and a great installment in this series.

It was just okay. The characters were fine, they didn't stand out, but they weren't annoying either.

The book has too many dropped subplots. After the first scene I don't know why the heroine's ex was even in the story anymore. His motivations are never explored and his actions don't make sense. The book completely glosses over the fact that he was literally caught having sex with his betrothed, and there were no social consequences for him or the woman. The friendship with the duke's daughter was also dropped almost immediately. It was more like these scenes were added purely as filler because they had almost no impact on the plot.

I'm so tired of the book of love. It's in every single book and it gets worse each time.

This is the 8th book in the Book of Love Series by Meara Platt. The Farthingale girls and the Braydens are meant to be together and reading their journeys to love has been entertaining. Dahlia Farthingale is humiliated by the Lord who she expected to propose to her. She is devastated and loses all confidence in herself. Ronan Brayden knows she is the lady for him but can he get through to her and make her realize they are destined for each other?

I have loved each of the Book of Love Stories and read them as soon as they are available. Meara Platt has written a fun and entertaining series. This one happened to be my least favorite but look forward to other books by this author.

Another wonderful book in the series

The story of Dahila and Ronan shows how love takes us quickly at times and holds us tight in her bonds. Ronan is besotted by Dahlia who is being courted another, until an opportunity arises that allows him to pursue the love of his life. They read the Book of Love and the spell is cast. We also see much of the extended family throughout the pages which is wonderful, a bit like a family reunion. The author also gives bit of insight into the politics of the day, which I found quite interesting. The Book is then past on to the next couple at the end of the book. Happy reading, you will enjoy this book.

Dahlia Farthingale is in possession of THE BOOK OF LOVE. She doesn't need to read it, she already has a beau. During the Twelfth Night party she discovers what a scoundrel her beau truly is. Captain Ronan Brayden loves Dahlia and has held off his deep affection until the night her beau exposes himself. Ronan comes to her rescue. Then he convinces her that they should read THE BOOK OF LOVE together. It's the courtship of a Royal Navy Captain with a military objective to win the lady of his heart. Another entertaining romance involving the Farthingales and the Braydens. They always make you laugh and cry.

I enjoyed this historical romance with all of the characters. The two main characters were Dahlia Farthingale and Ronan Brayden.

Dahilia Farthingale has been given a book that the family calls the book of love. The family thinks that when you read this book you will find your true love.

Ronan Brayden is a captain in the Royal Navy. His brother has recently married Dahilia Farthingale sister. Ronan think that Dahilia should read the book of love.

This was a cute story to read. I had fun read this historical romance. There were quite a bit of laughter through out the story.

Enchanting

Once again Meara Platt takes us into the world of the Farthingales and Bradens with the Book of Love. The Book of Love is a very old book that was found in a London bookstore and has since led the Farthingale ladies into their love match(Farthingales only marry for love). This time it is Dahlia and Ronan, but Ronan has his work cutout for him as a previous suitor has destroyed Dahlias confidence. The writing is wonderful and the interaction of the characters is witty and engaging. Love this series well worth the read !

The Gift of Love is book #8 in The Book of Love series by Meara Platt. This story was a gorgeous swoon-worthy read with wonderful characters, well paced, and great chemistry.

Dahlia Farthingale is next to have The Book of Love. But instead, the lord she thought would propose to her wound up rejecting her for an heiress. That's when Royal Navy captain Ronan Brayden steps in and insists they read the Book of Love together.

It all started when she got the pea in the Twelfth Night cake and he got the matching bean...

The Book of Love is now in the hands of Dahlia Farthingale to see if the magic will happen for her. She’s jilted at a party with everyone to witness, but Ronan Brayden comes to her rescue. Ronan offers to read the book with her in hopes she finds love, but he decides she’s the one for him, now to convince her they are meant to be together. A enchanting story of two people so perfect for each other they just need to spend time together to see what everyone has already figured out. I have voluntarily read and reviewed the excellent book.

Queen Pea

Roan Brayden found the bean and was crowned King Bean and got to kiss and waltz with his Queen Pea, Dahlia Farthingale. He was as big as an oak tree and described as a Wildabeast. Reading The Book of Love with Dahlia filled him with a understanding of love and a need to protect his gentle doe. Reading the book wasn’t only a connection to build a life on, but it enhanced each other. Is it time to pass the bid red book on?
