This book begins a two-parter, and really can't be enjoyed on its own, so you will want to read The House That Jack Built pretty well back-to-back with this book.
Wow - I'm glad I stuck with this series. After a brutally dismal start in book 1 (Time Scout), things picked up a bit in book 2 (Wagers of Sin), but only in book 3 does the series really begin to deliver on its promise.
Imagine going back in time to solve the mystery of Jack the Ripper? That's what you get, and wow, what a story! The historical accuracy of all the details is amazing, and literally every tidbit of detail described in this book can be found to exist in the actual Ripper case files. The authors really do a fine job of tying in a compelling story with the actual facts in the case - superb and highly satisfying. This book had me captivated from the first chapter, and I remained riveted right through this novel and its conclusion in the companion volume to follow.
Not a perfect book, but I've got nothing really negative to mention - you will enjoy this ride. It's a bit dark and gruesome, so it's not for the kids.
And of course it ends abruptly, and not necessarily on a cliffhanger, because it really is one novel broken up into two books. So on to the sequel, book 4 in the series... The House That Jack Built.
while I really liked the first two time scout books this one was not nearly as good, the subject matter of the book was a bit on the graphic side and not at all what I had expected.
In the future time travel allows people to tour their favorite portions of history. One group goes back into time to solved the Ripper murders. At the same time their is political turmoil at the time stations. I found the Ripper stuff more interesting. The stuff in the future was hard to get into since it had to do with a continuing series. The book also ends abruptly and a sequel is on its way. I do want to read the sequel to see how they resolve the Ripper story.
Time Tours are the rage and an investigation of Jack the Ripper is in progress. Unfortunately Shangri-La Station is under siege from cultists, jihadists, female storm troopers, and corrupt politicians. Having fun yet!? Be prepared for the sequel, The House That Jack Built, to finish a wild ride to the finish. Each subsequent book in the Time Scout series has improved upon the basic story line.
This book wasn't necessarily bad. It simply just wasn't amazing. I realize the main characters already had their time to shine and would need to take a break but it just didn't satisfy me as much as the other two books.
The only thing I didn't like about this book was the abrupt way in whoch it ended. This book is a TBCer (To Be Continued). This book is a tad graphic so it isn't for the faint of heart.
