故事发生在反乌托邦的未来，政府与科学家不断的寻找“创新”的办法，想要解决一项世界难题——此时的社会，每个人都变得有点自私、自我，过着不相干的生活，也没有人再养育孩子了，婴儿生下来就独自坐在那些蛋型的椅子里，只瞪着眼前的东西看。
为了改善这个孤立的社会，政府邀请了一位有名的科学家，召集了团队想了个解决办法。科学家创造出了一种“小人”当作玩伴，每个想要这种“迷你玩伴”的人都能买一个。他们站起来大概一英尺高，充满感情，但不是很聪明；不会说话但是很可爱，正是每个孤独人类所需要的：一个能疼爱的宠物。
两位主人公邦邦和金克丝都是来自这项计划的产物，他们既非人类也非动物，生来是主人们安静而爱好和平的小玩伴。邦邦和金克丝是最新“批次”的小型人，每一代小型人都鼓吹比上一代麻烦更少、个性更模糊、更区别于人类。但是，邦邦和金克丝仍然保留了一些人类语言和情感的知识，所以当他们彼此交流以及同主人苏珊交流时，他们必须要非常小心。因为这种行为是违法的，如果被当局知晓，他们的存在也会受到威胁。
他们整日收集石头、羽毛装饰他们的篮子，等着主人喂食。然而，没过多久他们生病、坠入爱河、好奇自己为什么不能用勺子吃东西，这些都令他们意识到自己跟主人完全一样……只不过身材矮一些而已。
虽然他们可以随心所欲地过日子，但还是像宠物一样依靠着主人。这是一个反乌托邦社会的缩影。小型人的世界既局限又压抑。他们没有任何责任，但同时也没有任何选择。

September 5, 2020In future, you get your own mini-human as your pet. How cute, I want one!
I stumbled upon this novel today, and the title caught my interest. It's called 'My Pet is a Human' by Amy Lilwall/艾米·利尔沃. It is a sci-fi novel which took place in a dystopian future where human adults started neglecting their offsprings in pursue of their own indulgence. The government tried to remedy the loss of parent touch and lack of companionship with producing foot tall humanoid as a mini playmate for these lonely children.
I have a strong interest in human as a pet theme. That is why I must read this at all cost. From the blub alone, I feel that this book could be what wish for such a theme and that it would be an engaging read.
