Picture-perfect love only comes along once in a lifetime…right?

Single dad Max Beckett doesn’t want anything to do with romance. Been there, done that, still had the emotional scars to prove it. His focus now has to remain on being the best father he can be. And part of that means making sure his little girl’s education is top notch. If he has to appeal to the school board to eliminate frivolous classes such as art to improve her core classes, so be it.

Too bad his daughter has other ideas.

As it turns out, she has artistic talent and needs a teacher. She needs Amy Murphy—who just happens to be the sexiest (and most infuriating) free-spirit Max has ever met.

Amy is his opposite in every way. And still, she makes him want things—feel things—he never thought he’d have again. Not since he lost his wife. But when all is said and done, will Max be able to let go of the past and have a future with Amy? Or will happily ever after slip through his fingers once again?

Jana McKewen lives in Oregon with her husband, two kids, a homicidal cat, and a puppy who thinks she's a baby.

Before publishing, Jana worked in public relations, sales, and *gulp* taxes. But even while working in those fields, her weekends and evenings were spent writing. She can usually be found guzzling coffee at her computer while writing, editing, tweeting about writing and editing, or playing The Sims to make her characters come to life. On the off chance she's not sitting at her computer, she's probably willing her plants to grow, cooking something without a recipe, making a dent in her 'to be read' pile, watching House reruns with her daughters, or playing with her ridiculous puppy.

Jana loves connecting with readers. You can find her on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or her newsletter.

My heart... its broken 💔...

This is alittle different for me because this couple is a older couple and it's new for me to read older relationship...

It took me awhile to like Max. He wasn't a bad guy just I wanted to smack him many times.. and it had nothing to do with Amy (our h) more how he was with his daughter Harper and what she was dealing with. Yes he trying to be the perfectish dad and wants her to focus on better subjects like math and science then the arts.. and thats where he meets Amy the fun loving Art teacher and the person his daughter connects with... but that lil girl broke my heart into millions of pieces... like I started crying and YELLING AT MY PHONE!!

I just love Harper so much lol.. as for Max it still took me awhile to even like him.. since he was sorta hung up on his dead wife and his own grief..  was hard for me to enjoy the romance between him and Amy.. so Harper and Amy kinda saved this story for me..

Angst, no ow/om drama, no cheating, drama, slight secondary character, no virgins

I'm not usually one to go for a seasoned character book, but after meeting Max and Harper in Picture It, and getting a taste of what Max is like, I needed to know what he would be like in a relationship. And of course it's with his complete opposite! The sparks fly almost immediately between Max and Amy, right from the getgo. Max comes off as a stuffy, prim and proper lawyer who thinks the arts is a waste of time. Enter Amy, the art teacher who is a tornado of color passion, and 100% against his opinion and not afraid to tell him. So, naturally, the one thing his daughter excels at is art, and in order for her to keep reaching her potential in it, she needs a mentor. Enter Amy. Something that softens Max more than even he realizes is his love for his daughter, and it's one of my favorite things about this book. He will do anything for Harper... even let himself get close to an art teacher, even if he thinks she has it all wrong. But does she? At their core, they're very similar, and getting a chance to see past those differences is the driving force of this book.

Favorite scene: when they're cooking together. THE INTIMACY. THE SOFTNESS. DELICIOUS.

Jana does such a good job at building their physical relationship. It's all about the little details for me, and there are so many in this book. I loved it so much!

Also, more Uncle Tommy, please and thank you. Give me more of this tortured musical soul!

A heartwarming story in which the main characters both have their whole lives behind them and fall in love again when they are almost 50years or over 50.

Amy, a teacher, she has Max's daughter in her class and sees a lot of recognition in her. Especially the way she shows her emotions in her paintings.
Max is a man who had a daughter at a later age and almost lost her when she was in the car accident that killed his wife. He does everything to give her a good life, but also smothers her in the things she wants because he sees no added value in them. It is Amy who opens his eyes that because of this he hinders his daughter in dealing with emotions.

I love how his brain works the way it works. Through his work as a lawyer, he has learned to read people's reactions through their eyes. He will start his actions based on that. But with a woman like Amy, he has more trouble reading her because his feelings get in the way of keeping it objective.
Nice novel with believable issues that are struggled with

This is a beautiful ,heartfelt story of love between Max ,in his 50's and Amy ,in her 40's. She is his daughter Amy's art teacher. They have a rough start and I loved watching them work through the hard times and come together. It's an emotional story ,is well written and is a wonderful read about family ,love and second chances.

Beautiful story!!!

On Canvas is an emotional and gut-wrenchingly beautiful story about loss, healing, family, and opening your heart to love and art. If you read Picture It then you have already met Max and his daughter Harper. Max is a stoic follow the rules single father raising a young girl. He wants the best for her and in attempt to “safeguard” her education, he makes an enemy of art teacher Amy, who is Harper’s favorite teacher. As he gets to know Amy, his starts to uncover the extent he has guarded his heart and how unfair that’s been to Harper and himself. His walls start to crumble and Amy starts to fill in the gaps.

What I loved is that this story was real, raw and not pretty at times. Max made mistakes. Mistakes that unintentionally hurt his daughter, despite his best intentions. Mistakes that hurt Amy, someone he was starting to really care for a lot. But life is messy and people make mistakes that they have to fix. It was nice seeing characters that were human. I LOVED that Max was in his 50s and Amy was in her 40s……it’s rare and refreshing to read a romance with mature characters. How they handled their relationship, how they expressed their feelings, and how they cared for Harper was beautiful. Their love may have not have been wild fireworks & sparks flying 24/7 or sex on the table crazy (although I wouldn’t put it past that sexy silver fox Max) but it was a quiet passion that I really felt in my heart. There is a tiny bit of steam and I have to say, probably the most realistic sex scene I have ever read (yes this is only 1 and yes I was perfectly fine with that).

Overall, I ugly cried at parts, I laughed, I shook my head at Max but at the end of this story I had a great big smile on my face because it’s an absolutely lovely & beautiful story about family and love.

There was so much about this book that was absolutely wonderful! I didn’t know what to expect, i was surprised that the next book in this series was going to be about Adam’s step father instead of one of Kate’s sisters or something but it didn’t take long for this story to grab a hold on my heart and run with it.

To read a love story about a very no nonsense analytical man falling in love with a passionate and creative woman is amazing. For the man to be a single parent who is fully devoted to his daughter, and the woman to be her teacher? *chefs kiss* what a golden trope. I had so much fun reading this book. I am in awe of what an incredible character Harper (the daughter) is, I love reading about Uncle Tommy and the little glimpses of Book One’s Adam and Kate made my heart soar!

But the best part about this book? Was reading about how despite grief’s power to overwhelm and shut people down, it only takes a spark of compassion, of love to bring back the souls into the bodies that were simply surviving. A flame that was missing was reignited, these characters were in pain and now they are healing and happy and being on that journey with them was beautiful beyond compare. I’m looking forward to the next book but I’m most excited to get my hands on the physical copy of this one! Max and Amy are precious and I adore them.

Another awesome novel from author Jana Mckewen

On Canvas is the story of Max and Amy

Max has focused his life on raising his daughter Harper alone after his wifes death when Harper was just a baby, Max believes that that subjects like Maths and Science are what are important and the arts are expendable

But when he meets fierce art teacher Amy, his way of thinking is challenged

Can Amy make Max open his heart to how the arts can help his daughter express herself....and can she also open his heart to something that has been missing for a long time and he didn't know it

Can their differences be the thing that brings them together or keeps them apart

Read this fab book to find out

On Canvas is a sweet story. It is an easy read but more importantly it will stay with you. You’ll want to stay in Amy, Max, and Harper’s world. The book touches upon how grief is handled and how art can help you grieve. On Canvas was exactly what I needed. Fleshed out characters, humor, interest storylines, conflict, and of course romance.
I immediately related to Amy. I loved her character so much.
You’ll be rooting for Amy and Max from the very first moment they interact.
Jana’s descriptive writing will help you picture the characters and world she has created.
On Canvas is a perfect weekend read, pick it up!

God, this book really tears at your heart and makes you feel all the emotions.

It's so raw and real and human, its beautifully tragic with going through grief and struggling with loss but also so beautiful with the decision to move on and start living life again because life is beautiful and shouldn't be taken for granted.

The hope and the journey of acceptance in this story is so amazing.

I could not put this book down. Max has my heart and I love him with Amy and above all his devotion to his daughter is so beautiful and real.

This was a wonderful and refreshing read! You don’t see many romance novels with older couples and honestly, I am here for it. While reading, I went through the full spectrum of emotions in the best way. Jana has a way with words and characters that defies explanation. They were all so real and so human that I could just imagine them in my own family. On Canvas is a beautiful story about love, family, grief, letting yourself feel, and letting yourself love. I adore all of these characters (Harper is just so fricking precious!) and am so happy with the ending.

Max is the widowed father to his teenage daughter Harper who loves art but he is strictly against it trying to get her to focus more on more serious subjects. Her art teacher is Amy and she and Max do not see eye to eye on her struggling art department. Max is somewhat of a jerk but a lovable one and he loves his daughter but when he meets Amy he tries to resist his attraction to her. Loved this emotional story and loved how Max and Amy were able to work through their differences to help Harper. Great book.

On Canvas...

Jana's writing bring us another part of the world we first met in Picture It. I really love her characters because they feel real and sometimes you need fantasy and some days is refreshing to have a more grounded world. Max and Amy's story is just not only about finding love again. For me, Harper is the most beautiful soul and I'm grateful for what Amy's has brought to her life too.

Amy and Max's story messed with my emotions, it made me cry, laugh and look like I was bipolar while I was reading it. This is a new author for me and I loved this story, but it was a roller-coaster if emotions besides the romance and the chemistry between the two main characters. I will be reading more of this authors works.

Jana tells an honest story about finding love after loss. Harper is absolutely sassy and adorable. Max's history is heartwrenching, but reaching. The love he finds with Amy is sweet, sexy, and genuine in my opinion. Side characters like Tommy and certain comments from Harper add some much needed levity. Wonderful novella. If you haven't read it yet, do so ASAP.

This was a wonderful story that made me feel so many things throughout, from the heartache of what Max and Harper were going through to the joy of that ending. I loved the dynamic between all of the characters and it really enriched the central love story between Max and Amy. It felt grounded and comforting in a way that I really enjoyed.

The second book in the Scorching Internet Connections series by a new Author to me, I now want to read the first book. Another great story in an amazing series. It is easy to care about these characters. Even though Jana deals with a difficult matter, it doesn't overshadow the sweet love story, and a second chance at a great love. Looking forward to the next story in the series
