SECONDS (The Salvation Society Series) by Freya Barker is a new book in Corinne Michaels’ Salvation Society world series featuring multiple authors. This series is filled with Navy SEALs, CIA operatives, strong heroines, suspense, action, romance and so much more! Each romantic suspense in the series stands on its own.
Reagan is a smart and determined criminal defense lawyer. After leaving a large firm with her paralegal, Sally, she is now building her own practice from scratch. One bad decision she is working to overcome is an ex in the prosecutor’s office, who has made it his main objective is to defeat her every time they sit opposite each other in court.
Reagan’s office shares a building with Callum McGregor’s Bail Bond office. Cal is the boss in an office of bounty hunters, Reagan’s landlord and her older brother’s friend. When Cal finally meets Reagan, it is an irresistible attraction. He knows the code of not touching a friend’s sister, but he is 45 and has never felt this attraction with any other woman.
Cal may be an alpha bounty hunter, but he needs Reagan’s professional expertise the moment he returns from returning a skip and run who accuses him of sexual abuse. As Cal and Reagan work together to uncover the reason Cal is being set up, they do not realize that another danger is waiting for the chance to destroy Reagan.
Once again, I can state that I have never read a Freya Barker contemporary romance/romantic suspense that I have not loved! Her mature characters are strong, accomplished and ready for that perfect mate and their HEA. Cal and Reagan spontaneously combust no matter how hard Reagan tries to remain professional and I loved it. The romance and suspense plots are perfectly balanced and intertwined and kept me turning the pages.
I highly recommend this book and author! I am looking forward to checking out the other books in the Salvation Society world.

With each new book by this author, I am renewed with the conclusion that she can do no wrong. She writes the characters I love, the stories I’m engrossed with and the endings that leave me happy and content all while I’m dying to get my hands on the next book. Seconds is another perfect example of her talent and ability to give me everything I want.
I enjoyed the fact that Reagan, being a lawyer, was not a hard-nosed professional as many lawyer heroines are usually shown to be. Instead, she has a sweet nature about her, a love for her friends and family, and is more than capable of taking care of business and being the tough guy when required without being tough all the time. I like a heroine who shows both sides and Reagan did so with shining colors.
Even as I enjoyed Reagan, I fell head over heels in love with Cal! He’s everything I love in a hero! Despite his protective streak, he loves watching Reagan take control when her job demands it. After meeting her he’s pretty much on board all the way and yet this didn’t have an over the top insta love feel to it. He also brings the steam to this relationship to a level that had me flipping the a/c down a notch. Gah! This couple together were the very definition of hot!
While this is a relatively short read, it’s filled with everything needed for an incredible romantic suspense. I thought for sure I’d guess who the bad guy was but nope, not a clue…until it was revealed and then I was smacking myself for not having figured it out myself. This also had a cast of characters that I’m dying to meet and praying this author gives us more of. I usually do not like a series, but I’ll read anything Ms. Barker publishes as quickly as I can without question or with no need to read the blurb.

I think this is my new favorite couple from Freya Barker. I LOVED Cal. He's exactly what I envision for the male MC. I like that he is a bit rough around the edges, he had the right amount of male dominance about him, and the best part, he was a guy who thought he would be a bachelor until he met Reagan. This guy is 45 years old. He even says himself that he's old enough to know what he wants and he recognized right away what Reagan could be to him. That's my kryptonite. If an author would ask me what kind of guy I want from appearance to behavior, to his pursuit of the heroine, it's Cal.
I usually focus more on a hero because that right guy is why I read romance, but when a heroine has likable qualities, that just elevates the book for me. Reagan fits this. I truly liked her character. She was respectable and I really liked how good she was as a lawyer. She may have had a lapse in judgement concerning her ex, but that ex is why we had a pretty exciting plot to the story on top of the already exciting romance of Cal and Reagan.
This is more of a novella, but the author packed so much into Cal and Reagan's story that you wouldn't know it. I felt very satisfied with this and how everything ended. Seconds is so worth the read!

Seconds can change Everything..
An Amazing Read with Mature Main characters, Suspense, Dangers, Finding Love, A killer twist, AND A Deserving HEA!
DEVOURED this in 4hrs, Loved Reagan & Callum! The Cameos by Jackson were Fun😍.
#My 1st By Freya, totally gonna read more!
Reagan, Kickass Lawyer, is Jackson's Sis [Salvation Series]. She's Smart, Fierce, Confident.
Callum, Bounty Hunter, is Jackson's Friend. Reagan's his tenant. He's Badass, Sweet, Funny!
(FYI, Both R+C are in their early Forties.)
Maybe it was fate, but even after knowing Reagan from Jackson's talks, Cal 1st meets her here.
That was Real Fun! Their Attraction was evident😍.
AND, When he's taken away on False charges, she steps in to help him.
As the two spend time together, gathering evidence, Talking.. They grow closer.
Love Blooms.
She was off-limits by Bro Code, But.. She's Cal's Dream Girl.
Before Reagan, Cal had made peace that he would be alone Forever. But now? He knows the two of them are meant to be, AND he's determined to make it Happen.
It feels Right. Worth it.
Personally, in their Relation, There weren't any problems. If it came, they faced it together. I liked it! They're mature, know what they want and go for it. (Even had Jackson's Blessing! That Talk was Amusing. *Chuckle*)
But The Case? Trouble.
It had seemed like a farce from the start, So easily over, But.. As new Truths get Revealed..
Her asshole Ex-husband's connection, A Fire, A Dead body, Drug Angle..
The Dangers Grow ever so Close.
Waiting to Strike..
The Climax was heart Racing!
I'm so Glad that Cal saved her In Time.
The last piece of the puzzle finally known..Such a Twist!
The ending was beautiful. Cal+Reagan in love, Life moving forward😍. Future Bright!
P.s. Jackson being a protective Bro was Cute! He was also helpful in finding info.
I loved the other characters! They were All Awesome❤.

Right from the very first scene in Seconds, I fell in love with Reagan. She is full of sass, independent and smart. Then we meet Callum McGregor, or Cal for short. He is not only the landlord of the building where Reagan’s office is, he is also an old military buddy of her brothers.... making her off limits according to the “guy code”. So of course he is going to be drawn to her. I love Cal, just everything about him, protective, sexy, and confident. When Cal is arrested for a crime he didn’t commit, in steps Reagan as his lawyer.
I love a good romantic suspense and this book does not disappoint on either! The story keeps you on your toes with one turn but has you swooning on the next. However, there is one twist you won’t see coming! I love it when a book can catch me off guard and this one did! Good job Ms. Barker!

Freya Barker is one of my favorite authors and each one of her books leaves my feeling so good after I finish them.
Seconds is a beautiful book. It’s my new favorite of her.
Cal is my new favorite male character of hers. A sexy bounty hunter that gets into trouble and needs a lawyer to help him.

Freya Barker is seriously an author who can not write a bad book. In almost every book I’ve read by her I am instantly drawn into the story and fall in love with the characters. In Seconds, it is no different. Right from the very beginning I knew what an awesome heroine Reagan was going to be. She is a defense attorney who decided to go out on her own after some run ins with her ex-husband. Unfortunately the ex did not stay away. The hero in this story is Callum McGregor, a bounty hunter, Reagan’s brother’s buddy, landlord to her office, and now client when he is accused of a crime he did not commit.
Even with only one meet before, Reagan automatically knew Cal was innocent and she was determined to prove it. But along the way their mutual attraction for one another became unavoidable.
Not only is the chemistry between Reagan and Cal fantastic, the twists and turns with Cal’s case kept me turning the pages. I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend it!

Page 1...that’s right from page 1 I was fully invested in Raegan and Cal’s story. Raegan’s character was so bada^^! Her intelligence and ability to pull the mask on and focus on her job...Perfectly bada^^!
Then there is Cal; can I just say I loved his take charge attitude....well, I guess I should say his ALPHA-tude was everything Raegan needed.
I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I read Seconds. I would put it aside to go do something and immediately finish what I had to do and got back to reading because I needed more! Ms. Barker continues to write heroines/hero’s that her readers can relate to; I become so entrenched in Raegan and Cal’s story, that I felt as though I was right in the pages with them.
As Seconds is part of The Salvation Society, I felt Raegan’s connection was absolutely spot on!
I’m going to leave you with one of my fav quotes:
“Probably, but the only rules we need to live by are those we set ourselves. Everyone else can f^ck off.”

Want a healthy dose of suspense- you wouldn't be disappointed when reading this then! There is a huge amount of who-dun-it while an awesome romance is happening. The author wraps you up in the story and characters (which are wonderful) and you can't help but just follow along the ride.

All in all, I hadn't read this author before, but I was really impressed with all of it. If you want a romantic suspense that will have you guessing what is going to happen next, you should totally check this out! 4.5 outta 5 stars from me!

Seconds by Freya Barker, a novel in Corinne Michaels’ The Salvation Society, tells the story of Reagan and Callum. Reagan is an attorney and Callum is a bounty hunter. He is a friend of her brother, Jackson, from the Salvation series, and her landlord. When he finds himself in trouble, she decides to help him. But can they figure out what is going on before its’s too late? Cal is protective and an alpha and Reagan was strong and determined. They shared a strong chemistry and I loved watching them work together. Their story is full of twists and was captivating.

For a quick read this story was brimming with tons of passion, heart and soul. Well paced and flawlessly written the insta attraction between defense attorney and a bounty hunter was unputdownable.
These characters, really came to life as their story unfolded.
There was a heartfelt and poignant reason for this title. Seconds, sometimes that’s all it takes!
Finding out the what and the why made this book another winner by this author!

After reading this gem I realise I’ve not read enough of this authors stories as this was a great read.
Callum and Reagan- eekkk I love these two. Reagan is a successful lawyer. Cal is a bounty hunter- a very sexy one. I love we get glimpses of other characters we may have met before.
This was an excellent read. I absolutely adored it.

Freya Barker has shown us once again that you can find excitement, steamy moments and love at any age! Seconds is the perfect combination of the mature, memorable characters that we have come expect from Freya, within a storyline that will keep you engaged from beginning to end. This book is an action packed story and a steamy romance wrapped together and it will keep you on the edge of your seat guessing who is the cause of all the chaos in both Cal and Reagan’s lives.

I think it might just be me, because everybody and their best friend seem to love this story. It didn't engage me all that much, the mystery was easily figured out, and the characters read like white bread. (Somewhat bland and boring). Hero was true-blue, insta love, which was nice. Heroine wasn't annoying.

Holy Hotness! Cal and Reagan are like puzzle pieces that slot together perfectly. Loved their story!
What I liked:
* Reagan: intelligent, professional, on top of her game, excellent lawyer, good friend and at the right stage of her life to meet Cal.
* Cal: savvy, professional, leader of men, owner of his own business, physically fit, great friend to Reagan’s brother and almost immediately knows that Reagan is the one for him.
* Jackson: Reagan’s brother and Cal’s friend from SEAL training ~ always there when needed
* Sally: Reagan’s legal assistant, mother of pre-teen son, excellent friend, organized and interesting ~ wonder if she will end up with Mark?
* Mark, Pooja, Dean and Aaron: work for/with Cal and should each have a book to tell how they find their HEA.

* Felt I was there…wished, in some scenes, that I had been

“Slick.”
Who wouldn’t fall in love with Callum McGregor. He’s super hot and sexy. Oh yay and he’s a bounty hunter.
Reagan is a Kick a** lawyer. Strong and independent. From the very first page to the crazy twisted ending this story is full of romance and suspense.

OH wow. I haven't read a Freya Barker book in a while and this one just captured me from the start till the end.
Reagan was an awesome defense attorney, so you knew she was going to kick ass. She decided to work for herself after she had some issues with her ex husband. Then she meets Callum McGregor, a bounty hunter. Man even his name is awesome. And you just know his going to be a alpha hot hero.
From the moment he meets Reagan, Callum was totally enamored. He even told her.

This book was Hot. I loved Callum. He was totally alpha over Reagan and I loved it. Their chemistry was awesome and you just knew they were meant to be with each other💖

Marrying the Salvation series with Freya Barker’s writing is as perfect as apple pie and vanilla ice cream. Jackson Cole’s sister, Reagan and his old friend Cal are a match made in Heaven.
I managed to read this book in a day. Not my day off. A day I worked. I started waaaay too early in the morning and stayed up waaaay too late the same night. But I couldn’t stop reading. It was that good.
I want more!!!

I freaking loved this story! Freya is so great at writing romance stories with suspense mixed into it!
These two essentially meet, become lawyer/client, become friends and fall in love.

I think this may be one of Freya Barker's shortest stories, but that doesn't mean it didn't rock! This was such a good read, some really awesome drama, danger, a bit of violence, and an alpha male that knew what he wanted and wasn't afraid to make that known (super hot). This story started jumping from the first chapter and didn't slow down. I give Cal and Reagan 5 stars.

Freya Barker has long been a favorite for me when it comes to romance and suspense. I always know I'm going to get an amazing story when I pick up one of her books. But not one thing could have prepared me for how epic Seconds is. This book is Freya at her absolute finest. It's like she took her self to the maximum level on everything. Maximum romance. Maximum Suspense. Maximum Action. Maximum swoon. Seconds is a book that will keep you not only on the edge of your seat, but also steal your heart at the same time.
Emotion, true to life characters, everything just comes together to make you fall completely in love with Reagan and Cal. There are so many layers to this couple I can't even begin to fully describe how wonderful they are. From their immediate chemistry to their love that is so beautifully written you can practically feel it wrapping around you as you read, there wasn't a single thing about this book that I did not absolutely love.
Emotion, true to life characters, everything just comes together to make you fall completely in love with Reagan and Cal. There are so many layers to this couple I can't even begin to fully describe how wonderful they are. From their immediate chemistry to their love that is so beautifully written you can practically feel it wrapping around you as you read, there wasn't a single thing about this book that I did not absolutely love.

Cal, a bounty hunter, who is always best friends with her brother has been accused of some crime that he may or may not have committed. Feeling he is innocent, she decides to take his case but she was not prepared for the turn of fates when while fighting his case she losses the battle of hearts to him. As if the drama wasn't enough, His past is back haunting their life.
First timer for this author's book but believe me it's not my last. The dramatic sequence...the action...the suspense really shook me to my core.
Ms. Barker writes to possess the mind of the reader from page one and won't leave you to rest until you are left wanting for more of her characters.
Although I have read many books with lawyer heroines Reagan was really a badass strongwilled character with a sweet demeanor. Cal ....oh man...no one who has read this book will be able to resist his charms...This was really a real-life Romance with mature and realistic characters.

Second that is all that Reagan felt in her life. She always has come second to the people in her life for the last few years and she isn't taking that any more. She made a stand and got rid of the baggage that tied her down. Until she meets Cal and gets caught up in a whirlwind of suspense when her world is threaten once again
Reagan is tough and it not just because she is a lawyer. She has been forced too because of the way things have turned out in the last year. She doesn't except to find love given the number her ex did on her and the fact that she is constantly remind of him thanks their professional careers.
Barker hooked me in with the opening chapter that set the tone of the setting and the characters. She didn't allude to what she had in store and that was charming as it allow the story to develop the plot at different rates for the mystery and the romance.
Barker is methodical in her mystery. The pieces don't come together until the very dying moments and the chase is thrilling. It ties well with the romance between her and Cal. He is a bit rough around the edges because of the nature of his business and is the perfect other help for Reagan as they both need to take some trash out of their lives .
Cal was the man she needed even though he came into her life because of interesting moment and stayed around. He older and wiser and wasn't afraid to get dirty. This was the right balance of inspiration from Salvation world with Barker's own spin on things. I do hope that there more books by Barker in her piece of this world.

What happens when a fave Unicorn author writes a book in ANOTHER Unicorn author's world??!! ABSOLUTE MAGIC!!! Seconds is just such a book! I ADORE Ms. Barker's writing style and it fits PERFECTLY into Corinne Michaels Salvation series world....my only issue? I didn't want this story to end!
Reagan (Jackson Cole's sister) is a lawyer. Not only is she a lawyer, but she's a dedicated, tough-as-nails opponent in the courtroom...and she's smart, sassy, independent and isn't looking for love! Cal is an ex-Seal, one of Jackson's best friends and a bounty hunter. Every time i read a book of Freya Barkers, i find she never fails to surprise me with her wonderous stories and her great characters.
In this lovely and surprising story Reagan, a lawyer, is a beautiful and smart women, but those who look at her wouldnt think she was so smart, that is why when i started reading this book i thought i wonder what sort of person this lovely lady would have matched to her. And to Freyas credit she created Cal, and omg i loved him and his personality, he takes everything in his stride, even when he is first the target and Reagan helps him, it is Cal who comes to her rescue and really steps up to the plate when she is targarted.
This book is a must read oh and just on a side note, i do love it when a author is writing in part of another series so its great to be able to recommend other authors, so after reading this i fully intend to go searching Salvation Society World and see what comes up!

When you pick up a Freyya Barker story you know you won't be disappointed--
She loves being her own boss in her own private practice. Her ex not so much, especially when she beats him as he prosecutes her clients. Someone who does like her at first encounter is her landlord, a Bounty Hunter. Callum knows she should be off-limits as the little sister of his best friend.
Their occupations cross when she becomes his attorney. Of course, he is innocent, right?
The rest of the story involves an enemy or enemies after one of them. The question is which one. Fighting for his freedom and their lives doesn't stop the heat developing between them. Now they just have to figure out who is the target and who is doing the targeting.
I love their relationship as fortyish professionals can they have a future together? Their colleagues
/friends and family along with some good and not so good police make for a nonstop story you won't be able to put down. Add heat and a relationship with no petty conflicts. The story moves right along.

Freya Barker has gained another follower for life with her newest wordy creation, Seconds. Seconds is amazeballs all around! I was hooked from the very beginning and could not put it down until I finished.
Reagan is headstrong and I knew from the beginning I liked her! I see a lot of myself in her so what’s not to like? She is very opinionated, determined, selfless, and witty. She is everything I like to see in a heroine when I read a book. Then you add Callum to the mix and you have dynamite. Callum is a walking dreamboat and is so perfect for Reagan.
I loved that there was not any unnecessary drama between Callum and Reagan. Everything that transpires throughout the book is completely necessary. I loved that there was a bit of mystery added to the book and it definitely will keep your head spinning while trying to figure it out.
I cannot say enough good words about this book.
