Yesterday, Reese’s country was attacked. Today, she saved the life of a stranger. Not only is West a stranger, but he is also the enemy. When Reese has to make a choice to become a prisoner of war or to make a run for it, she decides the latter, which also means leaving home without her family, not knowing when or if she’ll see them again. While on the run, Reese comes across enemy soldiers about to kill one of their own, and without knowing why—having no reason other than her heart telling her to—she saves his life. Within the next few days, Reese quickly finds out that West isn’t like any other boy she has ever met and she might even be falling for him. Torn between not trusting him and having no choice but to, Reese is determined to find her younger brother, refusing to believe he’s dead. While West draws danger to them both, Reese can’t bring herself to leave him behind, because somehow he gives her strength when there is none. But what Reese doesn’t know, is when she saved West’s life, that one selfless act changed the course of the war.

This was quite an interesting book I read years ago on Watty so when it came on Kindle, I needed to see it again.
I loved the two Reese and West. They had my heart only because Reese was not the typical "I need help" female protagonist. She didn't know everything, which is realistic, but my goodness, she had bravery and a goal. Now she did have moments where she irritated me, I couldn't fathom doing certain things she did however, they were very small and it showed her flaws which we all have.
Then we have West, who having the background he did, piqued my interest. Not only was he attractive in his uniform, but having the quest of traveling with Reese set off the romantic plotline and I was all in! There's a lot to know about him but you have to see that for yourself because it's worth it.
Now, I give it five stars because of how much love I have and have had for this book. I know there are things I wish could be improved and it did feel a bit simple in terms of the plot since there weren't many characters involved. But at the same time, many things are taken care of and these two stick by each other in ways I couldn't imagine. I wouldn't take back having read this, so I'm keeping it at 5.
So adventure, action, romance, with a lot of running for their lives, fighting off enemies, looking for family, and falling in love in a city that is crumbling. What a book!
