Enter into the teaching space of master Alexander Technique teacher Tommy Thompson. With compassion and integrity, Tommy's teaching explores the ways in which each of us can belong to the moment and stop defining ourselves by our habits. With its insightful, moving reflections, Touching Presence will inspire Alexander Technique teachers, trainees, and students -- indeed anyone -- to find their own path to being more fully present for themselves and the person in front of them.
This is my Alexander Technique teacher's book, and has been a good complement to his in-person lessons for the last few months -- he describes many of the techniques of presence that he goes over in person as well. It's changed the way I relate to my own body. I am often impatient, so techniques around presence of listening, withholding definition, freedom from judgement also helps relate to the people around me. To be present, simply telling myself "this is me having the experience of x" where x is walking, talking, eating, whatever, helps me almost immediately feel more present in that action. While I wouldn't recommend this book generally, it was a particularly good fit for what I was looking for in that moment.
