This had a really great premise, as per the description. You have Jon, a ruthless gambling addict, who loses his mind and proceeds to destroy everything around him in horrible ways to support his habit. Now I hoped to see more of the actual addiction process, and not just simple body horror here. But Jon just seems to go effortlessly from an addict to a serial killer, with no real reason or sufficient background of mental health issues. And somehow his wife doesn't know anything about their finances, despite her seemingly very reasonable and sensible. Just a lot of plot holes and missed opportunities to expand on the story itself and its characters. But from the very start, the story quickly devolves into some very graphic and grotesque scenes, worthy of multiple vomiting sessions, and the plot kind of runs off with itself. Nothing really happens besides Jon massacring everyone he encounters, and it wastes a lot of really great chances to create a more fine-tuned and broadened book. I think all the lead up with Rick was really wasted and possibly the biggest disappointment. I really wanted to see him and Jon have some special interactions together, bonding over their twisted, common issues, and then seeing a game of cat and mouse, as they try to betray one another for the sake of gambling. And then the ending just happens, and nothing felt resolved. With a character as tragic as Jon, he needed to be die somehow, culminating his journey after he went crazy and wronged so many people. But Caummisar chose gore over substance. This may appeal to some fans of splatterpunk, which I am, but there still needs to be a good baseline story to balance out the violence and leave the reader with a good experience.

This was hard to rate. It's extreme, yes, but it's not the extreme you'd expect. This involves what a crazy person would do if desperate. If you can handle gross eating habits, then go ahead and try. I dare you!

This gave me a whole new meaning to Sea sick 🤢This is the story of Jon and his cat Jax. Jon has a severe gambling addiction. He’s trying to keep a roof over his head , feed himself and most importantly feed his gambling addiction. This is one man’s story of just how far addiction can take you. I’m not new to Sea’s writing by any means. This book was absolutely vile and if not for a few hysterical moments quite sad. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for an extremely vile , violent, hilarious and just all around disturbing read.

Gross

Great read. But don't read if your squeamish or easily offended. This book has a good storyline and the characters are great especially the cat. He made me smile. But there are some gruesome parts but also some really gross parts. Don't think I'll look at gravy the same for a while. This is a typical read from Sea Caummisar she puts it all in and has a great imagination. Definitely recommend you try a few of her books as well as this one.

Jon's money is being eaten by the slot machine, the flashing lights and ringing noises mocking him, money going on groceries and home loan was far from gone. His wife didn't know how dire his gambling was. Losing his job, he is going insane so why not cook cat poo for dinner and pass it off as a gourmet meal his wife could enjoy? Jon will enjoy necro after needing food to survive. Gambling had overtaken his reality and people will be consumed to give him another day to dabble in his one and only love, winning or losing.

I could smell this story while reading it.

Very vivid details in this book, I almost puked - good job 👍
I've been staying away from the extreme gross-out stuff, so this was a fun escape from Coronageddon.
I love the cat running around in this story!

This is a wonderful black comedy horror read!
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable.
Great blood and gore with wonderful black comdey humor that adds so much to the story.
Can't wait to read more of these.

This is not in anyway for squeamish readers. I have lost track of how many stories I have read by this author but this is probably the grossest. I can handle a lot and a few parts even got to me. The main character is a compulsive gambler who loses everything. The family savings, his job, and even the money to pay bills and buy food. This causes a psychotic break. The gambler starts searching for alternative food sources and it gets really gross really quick. The part with the frying pan is one of the grossest things I have ever read. Good gravy! Fun and sick humor.

Gambling or Food

If I had to choose to eat or gamble it would be to eat. With that being said could I eat human flesh. I have heard that certain parts of the human body taste as it was prepared by a 5 star chef.
Jon on the other hand is as clueless as a rock on how to prepare sections of the human body. JON just know that marinating them in cat poo that you made into gravy is not a 5 star meal!
Make a series out of this book and make it more bloody, gory and more disgusting.

Ok. So this just gross. Good gravy! A gambling addiction. Loses everything. And I mean everything. A total breakdown. He gets creative preparing his "meals."
Comic relief. Jack the cat. Loved to hear his thoughts and perspectives. Cute.

My husband and I curled up to this audiobook at bedtime. Don't snack.......
The narrator was wonderful. Read through without a gurgle or a gag! 5 stars for him as well.

As always with this author, we get a horror story that is extreme in gore but rich in story. One of my favorite authors this author is always a safe bet for a compelling story and this book did not disappoint.

This is the 2nd book I've read written by Sea Caummisar; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

This has been my least favorite book by this author so far.

I did enjoy Jax, but I spent most of the time worried for him.

It was interesting seeing a little of Rick’s backstory, but I hated finding out that he ate his cat. It completely ruined his character for me.

Overall, I prefer this author’s other work a lot more.

I remain a big fan of Sea, though! I usually really enjoy her books!

Really fun seeing how the fictional universes cross paths (I started with the games series and wanted to learn more about Rick). This book has filthy (literally) scenes and Sea Caummisar never disappoints with the gore. Easy 5/5, and I can see why fans liked Rick

Oh goodness!! This turned my stomach. But that’s the whole point of extreme horror, to get a reaction out of you and not did this. This book will stick with me for a very long time.

If Sea Caummisar ever needs to make an insanity plea in court, this is the book that her defence counsel should submit as evidence.

Gambler's Appetite of Remorse is the story of a gambling addict running out of money and having to resort to unusual cuisine involving his cat's litter box. I think at one point in the story the cat covers his little eyes with his paws so that he would not witness the crimes committed by his owner, although I am unsure whether this actually happened or if this was just a fever dream caused by the experiencing the words—perhaps combined and committed to print for the first time in human history—

I just discovered Sea Caummisar's work fairly recently but she's fast becoming one of my top authors. I've read 6 or 7 of her books now and - while I honestly have found them all to be worthy of 5 stars - this one is my favourite yet. It is VERY unique and I found the protagonist fascinating. Gambler's Appetite of Remorse had me gripped from the first chapter and I read it in one sitting because I just could not put it down.
Highly recommended to fans of extreme horror!
