Deadly Connection

Rate this book
Private Investigator, Reid Lucas, and his mentor, Joe Lockhart, haven’t spoken in years, but when Joe wants to meet in a small-town diner, Reid’s interest is piqued. Without explanation, Joe calls and tells Reid he has five minutes to get waitress, Quinn Matthews, and her son out of the diner before they’re kidnapped by the group of thugs about to walk through the diner’s front door. Quinn Matthews’ life is simple and safe, exactly how she likes it—until Reid Lucas walks into the diner. Now, she and her son are running for their lives, and she has no idea why. But when the father of her son shows up and dies saving them, she realizes they all have one deadly connection: Joe Lockhart. Now, she'll have to trust the mysterious private investigator to not only save their lives but connect her past to her present so they can figure out who is after them. And why. As the danger escalates, unexpected feelings arise. Reid doesn't believe he's worthy of Quinn's love--or God's. And Quinn is too worried about having her heart broken again and the effect of having a new man in her son's life. Can they let go of their preconceived notions of love and relationships, or are they doomed to just let go of each other?

Deadly Connection is one of those books that jumps right into the action and barely gives the reader a chance to catch a breath or two before it’s off again. The narrative is filled with danger, suspense, more danger, and mysteries to be solved, all blended well with a strong helping of faith and a touch of romance,

Strong characters carry the story to its gripping conclusion. Reid Lucas, private investigator finds himself responsible to protect Quinn Matthews and her young son. None of them has a clue why she is suddenly required to run for her very life and Reid is risking his life for them also. The plot is filled with enough twists and surprises to keep even the most dedicated suspense fan happy and the spontaneous romance adds a welcome break from the danger and suspense.

I like the fact that all the characters were true-to-life. Reid and Quinn did not magically escape injury and the men after her were especially shrewd. The story flowed naturally and I was held captive by it to the very end.

Brought together by danger and running for their lives, Quinn Matthews has no choice but to trust Reid Lucas with her and her son's lives, as they try to get to the bottom of why someone is after them in the first place.

I really admired Quinn for the woman that she became, she really stepped up and took responsibility when her life didn't go as planned. She is a hard worker and wants the best for her son.

There is a lot going on this book, but a lot of it does involve a lot of backstory. I liked that the characters weren't perfect, and that they had their struggles and flaws that made them feel realistic and relatable.

Overall, this was an engaging and entertaining read with great characters and plenty to unpack. There were places where I felt the pace slowed a bit, but it didn't bother me much. Great faith elements, and I liked how this book does a great job of showing that each of us is far from perfect, and we have our struggles, but God doesn't leave us there.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This story was fast-paced and easy to read.

I would say, at first, that I was confused as to why the hero stuck around. It wasn't his problem, so to speak. However, that willingness to go above and beyond is what drew me to him as the book went on and I really enjoyed the growing relationships between the hero and heroine, and the hero and her son.

I also enjoyed the red herrings as to who the culprit really was and the twists and turns.

This is one of those books that pulls you in on the first page and just won't let you go until the last word.  Of course, you're not so sure the last word should be the last word.  Maybe another book or two is needed?

This book is wonderful.  It has a lot of suspense.  There is a lot of backstory to learn, but you'll love doing that.  It is said to be a romance but ooh I loved the suspense too!

Getting to know Quinn was fun.  She's a great mom and takes care of her son while working.  When both their lives are threatened she must trust Reid which is really hard for her.  Trusting any man at all is hard for her.  And now as they navigate why she's running for her life things are getting even more complicated.

This is a great suspense book.  I feel it's suspense first and romance second.  Loved it!  Highly recommend!  Get your copy today.

Don’t let this title mislead you, this is a wonderful Christian book. This quick-read is a very suspense filled story that will keep you captivated until the end. There is also a wonderful redemption tale that is woven throughout the book.

The characters are well-written and I was drawn to their stories. Each person in the book had a background story that was told in a way that worked perfectly with the script.

The good guys and the bad guys weren’t obvious at first, so the villain was revealed only towards the end. Each dangerous turn had me anxious to find out who was behind the violence.

This book was a clean and wholesome read. The language was fine and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The various scenes were easy to follow, even though the characters were in danger. If they only knew what/who was the deadly connection.

The book, Deadly Connection, was published in 2020 and written by Jennifer Pierce. There are 132 pages in this book. The main characters were Reid Lucas and Quinn Matthews. Quinn is the mother of JJ Matthews and they are the characters who are being sought after by the villian.

Reid Lucas is the PI who is called by his friend Joe Lockhart, to help save Quinn and JJ from being kidnapped. I won’t give away what happens to each character in the book, but it is very exciting.

If you like an exciting tale with a Christian theme, you will want to read Deadly Connections.

In Deadly Connection, the author, Jennifer Pierce takes us on a fast paced, suspenseful, non stop action journey. This is the second book that I have read by this author - and I am a fan of how she writes. In this book, we meet private investigator, Reid Lucas. His former partner, Joe Lockhart calls him out of the blue and tells him he needs to help a waitress and her son out - because they are about to get kidnapped by a group of thugs walking into a diner. The waitress, Quinn is a well written female character. She likes her quiet life and has NO idea why someone would want to hurt her or her son. She knows that she will stop at nothing to protect him.

The book contains well written characters - it contains a VERY suspenseful story line. One of the things that I liked about this book is that the characters have to fight to stay safe. They can and will get hurt. I don't like when books make their characters invincible especially during a suspense book. This book will start off with a bang - and will not let up the entire time.

I received a copy of this book through JustRead tours - all thoughts are my own.

In Deadly Connection, Jennifer Pierce keeps readers engaged with high-stakes action, sweet moments of connection, and a suspense that carries its weight throughout the book.

Where Reid is competent and a protector, Quinn stands strong in her faith and the belief that even in these dangerous times, God is in control. Her love for her son is fierce, and Reid admires that in her.

I appreciated that Pierce didn’t make her characters invincible or her bad guys incompetent. Quinn and Reid get hurt (and even land in the hospital a couple times). And even though I had an inkling of who the culprit of the attempted kidnappings was, the ride to get to where I could confirm my suspicions was white-knuckled and entertaining.

One thing I would have liked at the end was some sort of explanation or apology from Joe, but it’s such a small want, I still recommend this book to fans of fast-paced romantic suspense you'll want to read in one sitting.

I think I'll start this review with a quote from the book;
"We've all got pasts. Some are harder than others, and some are darker, but it's not a person's past that defines them. It's their present. Your past may have built who you are, but it is the person that you are today that matters."
I like this quote. It's definitely true for this book. The author has it right on the nail and I think it's meant for real life people too.
I thought each character had an interesting back story. Hence the quote from earlier. Especially Reid's. His was the most interesting of all.
This story is full of action non stop and this new to me author has done a fabulous job with each character. I feel that she hasn't shorted none of the characters.
JJ stole my heart though. I felt so sorry for him. But I kept holding my breath hoping he'd make it through OK. His mom too.
I like this question that Reid asks himself because it's true for all of us. I'm sure we all ask it as well I know I do. Are we really worth of the love of God? Yes, I like to think so. So I will agree with Quinn. She's an amazing person in this story. She's got courage, a whole lot of love to give and she's determined to put her loved ones firsts. She's unselfish. I've come to know her and like her a lot!
The mystery part was awesome! I kept turning the pages within because I wanted to read what would happen next. It didn't disappoint me. Not all!
Even the bad guys were awesome and at first it was hard to tell who they were. This book was just that well written!
It made my afternoon pass pleasantly. I didn't want to return to the real world.
I highly recommend this exciting read! Five stars for sure!
My thanks to Just Reads for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Thank you for such a great and exciting read! I'll be looking for more.

A Fine Novel

With just the right proportion of romance and suspense, Jennifer Pierce delivers an almost-perfectly proofread mystery - a rarity in an ebook nowadays. I thoroughly enjoyed this adventure. Developing characters completed the goals of a good book.

Jenn Pierce takes two people nearly broken by their pasts, mixes in life and death danger, and an adorable six-year-old boy and gives her readers a high-octane story filled with plenty of ongoing action.
Reid Lucas is haunted by his past actions (no spoilers) and refuses to believe he’s worthy of God’s love, or anyone else’s love. Quinn Matthews is the single mother of a six-year-old boy whose quiet life as a diner waitress is thrown into chaos when strangers come after them to kidnap her son. She’s strong in her faith but hasn’t gotten over her betrayal by her son’s father.
I liked how the author put in realistic action with consequences, even a few trips to the hospital when Reid and Quinn were both injured. And she deftly wove the faith arc into the story with Quinn showing Reid how he could forgive himself and let God into his life in a way that wasn’t preachy or heavy-handed. The only thing I was hoping to see was for Quinn forgive Joe, her son’s father. He died trying to save them, but Quinn didn’t seem to process that fact quite enough. However, the author kept all of the characters moving at a high pace throughout the story, which is what you want in this type of book.
If you love romantic suspense with an edge of danger, realism, and a strong faith element, then you’ll love DEADLY CONNECTION.
I received an Advanced Review Copy of this book from the publisher and was not required to give a positive review. This is my honest opinion.

Deadly Connection is the first book I have read by Jennifer Pierce, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I must say I enjoyed the book very much. This is one book that delivers on the suspense and action. There were quite a few twists and turns to the storyline that kept me guessing. I love the main characters Reid and Quinn. I love seeing how the events unfolded and how that affected the characters’ development - as individuals in their growth as people and as a couple. Nice job! I also love seeing the Truth of the Gospel message spelled out - showing God’s love and grace for all of His children, no matter what their past looks like. That was one of my favorite aspects of this story because I always love to see that explored and how lives are transformed as they begin to learn and believe what God says about who they are.

I was given an advanced copy to read. My review and recommendation reflect my honest opinion of the book.

This is a new author for me, so I was not sure what to expect. Now I look forward to reading more from her. This is a fast paced, action filled, suspenseful book with romance. It is a quick and easy read.
Quinn Matthews must trust a complete stranger, Reid Lucas. When she is faced with no choice but to trust him, they must try to find out who is after them before they wind up dead.
I was given a copy of this book for my honest review.

Fast paced and a fun read

I was kept guessing to the end. I had my own hunch but didn't know who was the antagonist was until near the end. Good writing, because after reading countless books I usually can guess the basic plot.

This is the first book by this author I've read. It is quite an unusual mystery. Quinn is just doing her job when there are men trying to kidnap her & another man working to protect her. Neither of them has any idea why the bad men are after her. The ending is quite unusual also. I enjoyed this book.

Good story from a new-to-me author. A strong romantic suspense from the git-go. Excellent characterization--I enjoyed the minor characters quite a bit. Plot all twisty and turny until the very end. Sweet spiritual thread woven through. The author hit every note with sharp clarity. Great job!

Good. Kept my attention. But needs extra editing. There are parts in the end that don't seem realistic to me but overall, a good book.

Definitely a Christian romance but with a good storyline

I'm not one who tends to read Christian romances but made an exception for this one. It is a Romantic Suspense, though, and those I do like to read. Quinn & Reid both feel unworthy of a happily ever after & their relationship doesn't exactly start off in a normal way. Joe calls Reid to save his ex-mistress & son, but everything happens so fast at the beginning that Joe doesn't have time to explain before he's murdered. Having been told by his friend, Joe, that he needs to protect Quinn & her son JJ, Reid intends to do just that as well as figure out by whom & why Joe was killed. He never would have guessed the answer. By the time he had the answers to his questions, his life would be forever changed. After spending 2 weeks protecting & getting to know an incredible little boy & his mother, can Reid just walk back outta their lives for good, or is the good in them where he now belongs?

This story has a strong storyline and strong characters with many twists and turns. It has suspense, mystery, faith, and of course a love story. It kept me guessing until the end who was the culprit.

Deadly Connection

This was a good mystery! I truly enjoy it. Interesting characters and enough intrigue to keep me wanting to read more and more. I love the fact that faith in Jesus, trusting Him, is central to Quinn's life. You will love little JJ, Quinn's son as well as Reid, the private investigator helping Quinn. A really great story.
