கணேஷ் - வஸந்த் துப்பறியும் 'விபரீதக் கோட்பாடு' 1976-ல் 'மாலைமதி' இதழில் வெளி யானது. கணேஷிடம் கிளையண்டாக வரும் ஓர் இளைஞன், திடீரென்று காணாமல் போன தனது மனைவியைத் தேடிக் கண்டுபிடித்து அவளிட மிருந்து விவாகரத்து வாங்கித் தருமாறு கேட் கிறான். அப்பெண் ஊட்டியில் இருப்பதாகக் கண்டறிந்து கணேஷ் - வஸந்த் அங்கு செல்லும் போது அவள் கொலை செய்யப்பட்டுக் கிடக் கிறாள். இந்தக் கொலை விவகாரத்தில் ஒரு விசித்திரச் சங்கமும், அவர்களது விபரீதக் கோட் பாடும் வழக்கில் இடற அதைப் பின் தொடர்ந்து கணேஷ் குற்றத்தின் மர்மத்தை விடுவிக்கிறான்.

About the author

Sujatha was the allonym of the Tamil author S. Rangarajan, Author of over 100 novels, 250 short stories, ten books on science, ten stage plays, and a slim volume of poems. He was one of the most popular authors in Tamil literature, and a regular contributor to topical columns in Tamil periodicals such as Ananda Vikatan, Kumudam and Kalki. He had a wide readership, and served for a brief period as the editor of Kumudam, and has also written screenplays and dialogues for several Tamil movies.

As an engineer, he supervised the design and production of the electronic voting machine (EVM) during his tenure at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a machine which is currently used in elections throughout India. As an author he inspired many authors, including Balakumaran, Madhan.

My first Sujatha book and looks like I picked an easy pacy read. Ganesh and Vasanth - the characters created by Sujatha are the Indian version of Perry Mason - with sound deduction and witty exchanges.

The case starts with a man who wants the duo to find his wife who had eloped an year ago and get a divorce. Soon enough, the investigation yield fruit and leads to a murder. The book touches upon perversions in the name of spiritualism, concepts of mind and more than a fair share of detective work for a set of lawyers.

The narrative was thrilling and the characterisation of Ganesh and Vasanth make the investigation have it's lighter moments. Sujatha writes with authority and the deductive reasoning is sound (if not show-offy). The killer was predictable though the how part was the mystery.

Loved the short read. Definitely a series for the long haul!

மறுமணம் செய்துகொள்ள விரும்பும் ஒரு இளைஞன், காணாமல் போன தனது முதல் மனைவியைத் தேடி, அவளிடமிருந்து விவாகரத்து வாங்கித் தருமாறு வழக்கறிஞர் கணேஷிடம் வாடிக்கையாளராக வருகிறான். காணாமல் போன அந்தப் பெண் ஊட்டியில் இருப்பதாகக் கண்டறிந்து, கணேஷும் அவரது உதவியாளர் வசந்த்தும் அங்கு செல்கிறார்கள். அங்கு சென்றபோது, அந்தப் பெண் கொலை செய்யப்பட்ட நிலையில் காணப்படுகிறாள்.

இந்தக் கொலை வழக்கின் விசாரணையில், ஒரு விசித்திரமான சங்கம் மற்றும் அவர்களது ஆபத்தான கொள்கைகள் (விபரீதக் கோட்பாடு) குறுக்கிடுகின்றன. இந்த மர்மமான சங்கத்தின் பின்னணியையும், கொலையின் முடிச்சுகளையும் அவிழ்த்து, கணேஷ் குற்றவாளியைக் கண்டுபிடிப்பதே நாவலின் கதை.

Intriguing and well set plot. The author doesn't drag the story into unwanted scenes and hence the story is crisp and clear. How the irrelevant components such as astrology, pop, innocence, betrayal, lust is all connected in this short book is amazing.
I think one of very few Sujata's thriller stories that has every nook and corner of the plot explained without leaving the reader into his imagination :P

சுறுசுறுப்பான கதையோட்டம். சலிப்பு தட்டாமல் பரபரப்பாகவே கதை எழுதப்பட்டுள்ளது. அனைத்து கதாபாத்திரமும் கதைகளில் ஒன்றி பயணித்தது. தேவையற்ற சம்பவங்கள் எதுவும் திணிக்கப்படவில்லை. மூடநம்பிக்கை ஒருவரை எப்படியெல்லாம் ஆட்டி வைக்கும் என்பதை திரில்லர் மற்றும் சஸ்பென்ஸ் கலந்து எழுதியுள்ளார் சுஜாதா.
