Waking Up: The World Was Gone

Rate this book
Christopher Turner has woken up in terrible situations before. A veteran of both war and a frat house, he’s used to waking up at the drop of a hat, to something he didn’t fall asleep to and some place he didn’t fall asleep in. But this — in the middle of an otherwise empty forest with only the clothes on his back, half of his memories gone, and a panicked, twitchy civilian — is definitely the worst way he’s ever woken up.

Turner doesn’t know where he’s at or how he’s gotten here. He doesn’t know if he trusts Ambrose, the rugged, sarcastic, and petrified passenger on this trip from hell. But the one thing he does know is that he’s going to figure it out — and he’s going to get home to his daughter. As the mysteries of the forest start to unveil themselves, and Ambrose becomes more and more intertwined with the answers, Turner’s got a lot to figure out and not a lot of time to do it.

Follow Turner and Ambrose on their journey to the truth — and to each other.

This queer paranormal suspense romance is about finding the truth, and a reason to live, no matter the cost.

I’m left a bit confused if I have to be honest. The last part of the novella deserved to be longer and was instead rushed.
I loved the premise and the idea behind this, but I’m not sure I’m a fan of novellas yet, I always feel like something is rushed and I wanted more.
Nevertheless, super sweet, weird read!

Turner And Ambrose's romance was ... interesting and unique.
The Waking Up series is a very unique series. I've never read anything even remotely similar to this concept.
Imagine this; You wake up in the middle of the woods. You don't remember a damn thing... You're confused... you're frustrated... and you can't figure out what could possibly be going on. As you continue, memories slowly come back to you.. and you realize juust how much you miss the important people in your life. That pain hits you so hard in your heart... and yet you're stuck in this strange place with no clear answers..... BUT you're with some stranger that you feel immense attraction and emotions for. You start falling in love over a DAY with this stranger, and you can't deny your feelings... is that possible?

In the Waking Up world it is. And you, as a reader, don't know who these strangers are until the end.

I hope there will be more to this series!!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I absolutely loved this short little novella. I really enjoyed the the story and how everything was fleshed out. The story is told from the perspective of Christopher Turner, a veteran who has woken up in the woods and doesn’t remember how he got there. He meets Ambrose who also has woken up in the woods. Throughout the short novella, the readers begins to learn what is going on along with Christopher. This is a great love story and the ending was very satisfying for me. I will definitely be picking up more books from the author in the future.

There’s literally nothing better than listening to IMT’s soft queer romances while walking my dog. I have no thoughts really. This was just very beautiful, as always.

I don't even know how to put this story into words without giving any spoilers. I loved it. After a few chapters, I thought I had an idea what was going on but I was only about half right and yet not really at all. There are so many twists and emotional moments. I had to take a break at one point because I wanted to cry (okay maybe I was in fact already crying). I really wasn't sure how it would be able to have a happy ending. But oh, it did. That ending was the cherry on top of it all. Definitely need to to save this one to listen to again eventually. I am looking forward to checking out the next book in the series

I listened to this as an audiobook and it was great! I see a few reviews that say the ending was confusing, but I didn't get that at all - I really enjoyed the concept of this story

This was not the story I thought it would be. Really different from other works of hers that I read. This one is a strange mystery, intentionally disarming and confusing. It's not bad, but not what I was looking for. And a bit triggering because it deals with a topic that can easily get me into unhappy brain spirals. The characters are wholesome and it's a good story, but not right for me.
