Liam “Southie” Daugherty grew up in the Irish working-class neighborhood of South Boston, Massachusetts, also known as Southie. The son of a policeman with a drinking and gambling problem and a pill addicted schoolteacher mother who was nothing more than a punching bag for his Pops, Liam never had the best outlook on life or love. But he was always good at one thing.
Fighting.
His love for fighting brings him face to face with the underworld of South Boston, and his natural skills in the ring catch the eye of the notorious Southie mob boss, Paddy O’Connor. Paddy offers Liam the deal of a lifetime for a young man living in Southie; in return for becoming the notorious mobster’s Enforcer, Paddy would spare his father’s life and cancel the gambling debt his father owes to the mob.
With no other choice, Liam agrees to the deal to save his father’s life.
Liam’s job as Enforcer brings him to a crossroads when he meets his childhood idol, boxing legend Roland Jennings...and Roland Jennings’ daughter, Camilla, an up-and-coming Boston photographer. Roland tells Liam to stay far away from his daughter. Their relationship wouldn’t be welcomed in the insular, working-class Irish neighborhood and them being together could put Camilla on Paddy’s radar.
When I first read the synopsis for this story ,I danced around it because I got caught up in the old stereotypes. What the writer gives us is a story that doesn't waste time dealing with life and things that can happen. We get one hot, sexy male.character that's not afraid to show his hand. I love the fact that the girl in this story,is not in fact a silly.girl but a woman who wants her man. This was just really good and the story keep you entertained from the start till the finish.
This was really good! This is the first book that I have read by this author, Courtney Dean and I look forward to reading more! I am glad that Camilla and Liam got their HEA! It was rough! They had to deal with racism and opposition and negativity as well as murder. Anyway, I am glad that they are together and it was a very nice ending.
This story is part romance, part sports story & part mob life. Liam wants nothing more then to be the best at what he does MMA type fighting then boxing. He knows this will be his ticket out of the poverty & violence he's been forced to grow up in. But in order to keep family safe he makes a deal with the devil. Yet that's okay this deal brings Camilla into his world. She is a treasure worth more then silver & gold. She is what he has been waiting his whole life for a reason to live & breathe. Camilla has been been hurt by someone she loved & trusted. Life hasn't given all the good she's given it back. When their world collide sparks fly & together they will burn down Boston to be together. This was a great story of love & in the end revenge too. It was a recommended read by UniqueWords LLC. Read it today you won't be disappointed.
This is my first story by this author. She has crafted a complex story that it’s not too complicated. The players are clearly drawn and we know exactly who Liam and Camilla are. I have read a lot of mob related stories and found the story of Liam’s struggles to escape this life style to be both heartrending and heart warming. Camilla proved to be a loyal and levelheaded girlfriend....once she got pass that whole “he is a killer” thing. The story was complete; the reader is not left guessing or making up details. I was hoping that Gerald would have his own story but I can settle for reading that he is happy and with his lost love. This is a great story!
My first book by Courtney Dean, and it was recommended by Unique Words LLC, a really fantastic read. Liam, from the project to world championship!! It wasn't easy,he went through he'll and back. Every great man usually has a great woman behind them,in Liam's case Camilla was the great woman. Their journey will be a rocky road, but with love and perseverance they will make it. Hopefully we will get a chance to follow Gerald and Anita's story.
What a ride this book had all of my favorite genres. Inter Racial, Sports and Mafia. All of that and it was a romance filled with true real life struggles. Two people that came from entirely different upbringings . A well written emotional roller-coaster I plan to follow and read more Courtney Dean. Read this book you won't be disappointed
it was good just wished the book would’ve focused more on domestic scenes and playing into the secret romance aspect of their relationship, a little less time jumps and more development would’ve been nice. Walked away from this book not knowing the likes or dislikes of the characters but their chemistry intrigued me and the plot was interesting. Felt rushed toward the end tho
This book was oh so good. I can't give enough high fives and thumbs up. I loved the characters and it was really a believable story. Great job Ms Courtney!!!
Hi reviewing another book by Unique Words LLC. This book is about a awesome young fighter named Liam. Liam didn't have it easy growing up with his parents who had their own issues. What he did have was the love of his grandmother. Liam story is interesting it did hold my attention. It started to wane a little for me when Camilla came into the story. I felt that things dragged a little with her for me. I must say seeing Liam and Camila finally get the happily-ever-after that they deserve can't help but cheer for this couple 💖.
We can't choose our parents or circumstances of our childhood, but we can learn from it and move forward. That's what both Camilla and Liam did. Liam, born to middle class patents with addictions so bad, they lived in poverty. Camilla, born into wealth, but because it wasn't old money, was shunned due to classism. They meet, sparks fly and the love story is born. Through all obstacles, they fought and had TY heir HEA. This book was recommended by Unique Words, LLC.
This was my first time reading one of Courtney Dean's books and it didn't disappoint. Liam was a very determine young man who didn't let the world he was raised up in stop him from reaching his dreams and goals, especially when he could have given up plenty of times with the parents he had. Once he met Camilla, his determination grew even more because they both refused to let their circumstances and other people stand in the way of their love for each other. There’s nothing better than witnessing the underdog win! Liam had a very rough life from the beginning and even as a kid he was a strong man because all the sacrifices he made for the people he loved.Camila was his haven his refuge and I was so glad she was able to look placed the life forced upon him .I was heart broken about at what Sean did. There was no real reason for it.I know love is a very powerful thing but I would had to rethink staying with Mr.Daugherty
I'll start with a slight *spoiler * as this book should come with a TW for physical abuse (which occurred in the past) though not a predominant part of the story. But just an FYI for anyone that would like to know up front.
Now, the chemistry is hot between our leads and refreshingly they work to get over their issues rather honestly. There's a moment where our heroine flees but it's understandable given the circumstances. This story has lots of action, suspenseful moments sexy times and sweet romance. I enjoyed it a great deal.
Courtney Dean can do no wrong with ✍ novels ; and this is hands down one of the best sports mafia romance , I have had the pleasure of reading😘 Both of the main characters had to overcome significant challenges in life and was just perfect for each other despite the glaring differences in their backgrounds. Liam is is MMA fighter, turned professional boxer and a lethal mafia enforcer and will unalive anyone who threatens his sweet lady love Camilla. The epilogue was a chefs kiss - just beautiful👐💃
Oh my, we have an Alpha Irish Man that loves to box and get's caught up in the game. Until he sets his eyes on Camilla Jennings. His former boxer hero's daughter. Camilla running from an abusive past gets drawn to Southie. Several people told them it wouldn't work. Classism, Racism, Violence, Mystery, and a love story all in one novel. Definitely a page-turner. Bravo... This was recommended by Unique LLC.
This was a fun book. I really liked Camilla and Liam. Camilla was innocent but still had a backbone which is important to me when it comes to a heroine. I just wished that we could’ve seen more of their relationship. I don’t have a problem with an insta-love story but with this one I wish they would’ve spent a little more time together. Overall this is was a fun world and I was interested in all the characters and their relationship with the hero and heroine.
I started this book once before and put it down. I’m so glad I picked it up and finished it. I love the story and I love Liam. Watching how he grew up and wasn’t really raised by his parents. Camilla was as broken by life and choices she made. Their meeting was meant. There were large hurdles. The twists were well placed and I didn’t even know they were coming! Loved them and Frankie, well you’ll see. Very good read.
You don’t always have to accept things as they are. You can always do better, and Liam did just that. He found the love of his life and left the life of crime behind. It wasn’t without a price, but sometimes it takes tragedy to make you change your lifestyle. Enjoyed this book.
Liam and Camilla had some demons to battle through. But love won out! You find yourself feeling for Liam for the life he was forced into, but at the same time glad he was that man so he could protect Camilla. Only thing I would have loved included was a blow by blow on him dealing with Franklin Scott .
Few editing issues but the characters were well written. I actually would like to read Gerald's story. The ending was a little rushed to me. It went from killing Paddy to six years later. I would have liked more detail about what happened during that time. What was their wedding like? Finding out about their first child, etc.
This is my first book by this author, and I enjoyed it. Liam's life growing up was SAD! His parents are the worse! He was forced into working for the Irish mob to protect his sorry parents. Camilla and her father moved to Boston for a fresh start after the death of her mom. The story moved at a nice pace. The sex scenes were good. The suspense and drama was believable.
I enjoyed this, Liam back story & life is interesting. Camilla is just like all the other female characters this author has written. A DV survivor, a damsel & boring. Drywall has more personality than Camilla. I'm not surprised because I read some of her other books & all her heroines are the same. Dry & uninspired.
The story line was good, a nice love story however the author could had developed and add more to it by removing all the repetitive dialogues, honestly I don't want to read two or three times what happened one time is enough, then I feel the end was rushed, it would had been nice to see more to the characters relationship after everything was sorted out.
I love the battle the couple had to fight in digit and together that allowed them to be to be a couple. I love the females ability to be honest about her feelings while being unsure. Great read define will recommend d this boom to others.
I had a hard time with this read in the beginning. But as I continued to read, it got better and better. These characters are both interesting and likeable. The drama, secrets, and lies all came to a happy ending. This book was recommended to me by UniqueWords LLC.
Unexpected....but a really good boy meets girl story. Liem knew what he wanted out of life and did what he had to to get it. Camilla born into a good home but made one bad choice which almost ended her life. Falling for Liem was her second chance at a happy ending.
When Liam met Camilla under usual circumstances, their chemistry was jumping off the pages. They love each other no matter what anybody else said about their relationship. Southie handles his business. Overall, this is a good book to read.
