The perfect book for the kid who loves games, but the parent that wants them to be reading! What a page-turning fun middle-grade read. What kid or even an adult doesn’t want to try one more “thing” in their life. One more bite, one more chip, and for Ethan it’s inside the game world of Bailiwick. I think I enjoyed Maggie’s character the most, although all had something to offer the plot.

Are your kids plunked down in front of the TV, plastered to a screen playing video games this summer? (In fairness, it was 114-degrees by 10 am yesterday...) Slip them a copy of this gaming win: Souled, by Jennifer Gladen. It's a great, sucked-into-a-video game read!

I really enjoyed this book. It has a tight plot, is well-written and is a super-quick read. It will appeal to the young gamers in your family or classroom. It's a high-interest premise (getting lost in a video game) with a subtle message, but it's deftly handled. There's a light crush, but nothing inappropriate for middle grade.

The story revolves around a 7th grade boy, Ethan, who gets a new immersive game controller, and discovers the man who owns the company that makes the controller has nefarious plans for stealing the souls of the players and merging the digital and real worlds under his control. There was a plot twist I didn't see coming (and that's kinda rare, for me) and I appreciated how the team had to come together at the end to defeat the villain, Nith.

This was a wonderful, fun read! Very well done. Enjoy.

Souled is an exciting read and will appeal to middle graders and younger high schoolers. The big draw is the computer video game, Seeker, that not only draws the player's interest into the game, but also his soul. Shivvvvverrrrrr! But not to worry, there is a bit of romance and humor to lighten the mood.

Although I'm not a gamer, the story attracted me and I decided to give it a try. I enjoyed this book and the characters. Team dynamite is composed of a few friends who seek to be helpful to the community and true friends to each other. I loved how the different personalities complimented the team. I found a couple of parts to be repetitive, but it didn't take away from all the action and plot. I found myself inside the game with these characters. I liked how the author got inside the main character's head and sorted out natural and common emotions and feelings young people deal with. I'd like to see more of this Team Dynamite!

Absolutely Amazing

OMG, my son and I read this book together; we absolutely LOVED it!! Ethan and his friends start playing a new video game, Seeker, and get caught up in it...literally! Throughout the story, Ethan and his friends must play against the evil Lord Nith and win if they hope to win their freedom, and that of their friends, from the world of Seeker.

My son, who is eleven, is a big gamer himself, so of course, he loved the subject matter. As a mom, I loved it too because the story includes a subtle lesson about the evils of spending too much time absorbed in video games and ignoring life around you.

A well-written, thoroughly engaging story that is sure to delight children of all ages, especially those who enjoy a good video game. An easy five stars. Happy reading!
