This collection has its strengths and weaknesses, but I appreciated the wide variety of cultures and tale types that were included. The stand outs in this one are: “Sun, Moon and Talia” (early, Italian version of Sleeping Beauty); “The Snake Prince” (India); “Whanawhana of the Bush” (Nee Zealand, Māori); and “Orpheus” (not the Greek myth, but a tale from the Cherokee Nation).
Absolutely wonderful book. Some stories more familiar than others, some new stories. Great read. SO GORGEOUS PICTURES. I'm in love with those illustrations. Really beautiful addition to my book collection. (:
Gorgeous, simply gorgeous. From start to finish. Beautiful pictures, splendid translations, some of them of lesser known fairy tales... Just excellent.
