Are you hurting or suffering in silence? God has a purpose in your pain.
Many people in general, and even Christians admittedly avoid the subject of pain almost as much as they avoid pain itself. But once you understand the purpose of pain, you can make the most of the painful experiences in life.
In The Furnace of Affliction: How God Uses Our Pain and Suffering for His Purpose, Horace Williams, Jr. tackles this challenging topic. Based on the Word of God, insights from other leaders, and his studies, he addresses several key points, including:
How pain develops our faith How pain determines our path How pain delivers comfort, joy, and peace And how pain deepens our commitment to God.
Packed with personal stories and scripture to support his points, Horace shares his insights on the problem of pain. His candid and straightforward communication style engages the reader as he addresses this critical topic for the body of Christ today.

This book, by far, was the best book which I have read in 2020. While my personal circumstances greatly differ from that of the author's, there were so many parallels in each of our journeys. The number of takeaways from this book is great in number. Much of what I read will stay with me, will support, encourage and inspire me for a very long time to come. Loved the reflection questions as well. Cannot express my gratitude enough to Our Heavenly Father for guiding this book to me. Everyone who reads this book, will have no choice but to be blessed.
This book is a must-read for every human on planet Earth, especially those who believe in God!
It has a powerful, faith-filled message from the author that will touch your heart and strengthen your resolve to trust God no matter what you may face in life.
The author's storytelling style is fluid and power-packed with real-life examples and includes Bible-based solutions to the fiery trials of life.
I enjoyed reading this book in one sitting! I kept turning the pages until I reached the last one.
And when I did reach the end, I felt inspired and encouraged in my walk with God.
*The author provided me (Alexis A. Goring) with a complimentary copy of his book "The Furnace of Affliction: How God Uses Our Pain and Suffering for His Purpose." My opinions in this book review are my own.
What a powerful message! I related to almost everything in the book. I have been through a number of painful events which God has used. This book would have helped me through a number or trials I have gone through. It is good to know that someone else has felt many of the same feelings as I have. I strongly recommend this book to everyone!
If you are looking to read an encouraging, spiritual, account of one mans journey through pain, suffering and sorrow and how, using God’s Word, to get through those times, look no further. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book as it came at a sorrowful time in my life, but though God’s Word, prayer and this encouraging story life was a little easier to go though in my sad times. A true blessing to have been able to read this with an advanced copy. My review and opinions are mine alone. I guarantee you will enjoy this amazing book! Consider grabbing yourself a copy and one to share with a friend
I agreed to review this book because of my own journey with pain. What a great reminder of the reasons God allows pain and suffering in our lives. Just as we discipline our children when they veer off the path of righteousness, God also loves us enough to direct our path on the straight and narrow. All of us will at some time, experience a bit of pain and suffering. That is when it is time to remember that God is with us in the Furnace of Affliction and it is for our good.
received an advanced copy from the publisher and leaving my honest, opinions about the contents.
What I loved most about this book was the hope it offered for those who face trials and personal suffering. The book is full of scripture to lead you closer to God, but also to help you understand the purpose for your suffering. When facing trials and personal suffering that feels too heavy to hold, knowing there is a purpose in all of it for your good and God's glory fuels hope. Through sharing his personal story of suffering, Horace traces God's hand through His own life, but at the same time you feel he is showing you the way through your own suffering. He shares both testimony and scriptural direction with humility and yet confidence, because you know he has been where you are. It has a solid biblical foundation, while at the same time being filled with compassion, hope and even joy. I don't remember the last time I read a book on suffering that left me so encouraged, strengthened and full of hope.
In times of suffering, we don’t need to hear clichés; we need to hear the truth. Through the lessons he’s learned through difficult times, Horace is able to draw from God’s Word and use the truth of scripture to speak into your pain and bring encouragement and hope.
My favorite quote so far... "Exquisite faith is living in obedience without any doubting—a faith with full confidence in God, no matter our circumstances or our feelings. When we give ourselves over to our feelings and follow them, we usually end up in trouble. It is a constant battle for me to not live according to my desires."
This is a great book to read if you suffer any kind of pain, physical, emotional. I first became interested in reading because of emotional pain I suffered growing up, as you get older if you don’t deal with it, it does become physical. I strongly urge anyone who suffers from any kind of pain to read this book.
This book is a must-read for anyone who suffers or suffered any form of pain; physical or emotional. It is well written and includes many Bible verses that will help to strengthen you as you go through difficulties in life. I definitely recommend reading this book.
