The war ended, but the challenges are only beginning.
Countless dogs are dead from Duke’s war, but it looks like things are finally settling down in Solum. Some mysteries are left unsolved, although few are willing to keep searching for the missing bodies. As the lone heir of Solum, Step intends to take over as Alpha in Charles’ absence. These plans, however, are quickly dashed when a mysterious challenger appears. Following an unforeseen accident, Step awakes to find that his challenger has taken over the pack. He is offered an opportunity to regain his title by earning back the loyalty of Solum, but there is a catch. Torn between his duties and ambitions, Step is caught up in a maelstrom of competing sides and conflicting stories. One mistake could easily turn fatal and a single slip up could leave Solum’s fate uncertain.
In all this chaos, only one thing is nothing is as it seems.
After Charles’s death, Step would become Alpha of Solum - If it wasn’t for Jack, who called himself Alpha in front of the rest of the pack and acted as of Step would have been the worst Alpha ever. He challenged Step in a game that they both acted like Alpha and whom more dogs wanted to be Alpha once they knew how they led would be the Alpha. However, we later realise Jack is actually Dew and Jack is an illusion she created that looks like her brother, who fell in the war. Due to an illusion created by Dew, Step is fooled into killing a dog of the pack and he is exiled from Solum. Ruth, an outsider, follows him.
I really liked this event-packed sequel for Raven’s call.

I give it 3.5 stars. It can get too political with speeches cause the MC and another dog are competing to be alpha although it wasn't always boring. This book is quite different from the other books cause it's actually kinda scary like a supernatural horror movie. There's a new dog with power and this power is quite intriguing and full of surprises.
