Amazon Top 15 Bestselling author and lover of forbidden romances, tacos, coffee, and wine, Q.B. Tyler gives readers sometimes angsty, sometimes emotional but always deliciously steamy romances featuring sassy heroines and the heroes that worship them. She's best known for writing forbidden (and sometimes taboo) romances, so if that's your thing, you've come to the right place. When she's not writing, you can usually find her on Instagram (definitely procrastinating), shopping or at brunch.
WARNING: GRAPHIC DISCUSSION OF SEXUAL THEMES AND STRONG LANGUAGE. IF YOU MIND THAT DON’T READ THIS BOOK OR MY REVIEW FOR IT.
This review is gonna be different from usual. Instead of going into every pro and con I think it fits more to go into why it could have worked and why it didn’t. However it will require in depth discussion so I can’t do it in a super fast review so here it goes!
What’s it about? Asher is in jail after murdering a man who raped his sister. So now this woman who’s attracted to him is trying to help him become a free man.
Why it could have been really good: This sounds like it could be a legal drama with a romantic element. The convicted character is interesting and the story this book started out with was too. I was also interested in the legal drama stuff and the dark themes as the memories could have led to amazing character development and depth.
Why it fails: It’s basically porn. I don’t mind sex and I even know to expect that to an extent in romance but gosh, this one borderline ignores the plot entirely just to get to the romantic elements and fucking. The dark story about how this guy is in prison doesn’t clash well with that either (don’t get me wrong, dark and violent themes work in a plot-focused romance book, I’ve seen that done fairly well at times but it just feels weird in a sex-and-nothing-else-focused romance book). I seriously began to wonder if it was a dark-comedy that was falling flat. Not to mention it’s poorly written and rushed. The whole book goes on and on about how much the woman’s vagina is getting wet or how hard the guy’s dick is but then for the court hearing it just briefly mentioned how it went. It feels like this book just pretended to have a plot to get people interested. I don’t even think there’s anything wrong with porn, I even see some real artistic value in it, but if that’s what you’re doing just go for that, don’t sit here and pretend it’s anything else. I don’t wanna get into the story only for it to be some legal case equivalent of “oh, I need to pay the pizza guy somehow”.
Other miscellaneous thoughts: Positive- At least the sex stuff was hot. There’s also a few (not sure if intentional but could be) humorous moments. Negative- The narrator of the audio edition was not good and it’s very predictable.
Overall: Came for a legal drama and/or even a violent antihero type of story with romantic elements and maybe a few sex scenes if it fit. Instead this author pretends to do that for about 10 minutes before it’s just pages of “Hard cock, wet pussy, fucking” which again, nothing wrong with hard cocks, wet pussies or fucking in a book but gosh, this execution is pretty bad. A lot (dare I maybe even say most?) of what I read (hell, even write) includes sexual themes, sometimes they’re even pretty fucking graphic but there’s also a plot and the focus on a book should be the plot first unless it’s just full-on porn which isn’t anything to be ashamed of writing but if going that route you probably shouldn’t go “Yeah this is gonna be a pretty compelling drama isn’t it, SIKE HORNY TIME!” So yeah, I didn’t care for this.
This game of cat and mouse was amazing !! There is something about a slow burn that doesn’t allow any room for the fireworks that will eventually happen. This book gave me the push and pull of the fire and desire of this couple. There lust was electric and toxic.
Asher Woods is probably the sexiest man on the world and he showed his clean test results. He will be ruining this girl who is already ruined from her past and she needs a hardened felon to give her the pain she absolutely desires.
This book is absolutely ridiculous and I loved every second of it 😍😋!!
Happy reading everyone 😉go acquire yourself a sexy book boyfriend who can blow your back out candle 🕯 style !!
I want to know more. What exactly happened to her in the past, how does their story progress, what was his life like before prison? Lots of questions and not enough answers. The build up was good and the execution of that build up was oooohhhh soooo gooooood! The narrator did a good job too, but like most of the books featured on the read me romance blog- there just isn't enough content for a 5 star review.
This was exactly what I needed! The story, the narration, absolutely great. I wish it was longer so we could find out the details of what happened in the past, and where things go for these two in the future.
❌boring ❌the h is experienced ❌so much sexual tension : verbal and in writing that it got boring ,once they finally did have sex i was bored and annoyed i almost closed the audiobook, nothing special. ✔️interesting plot, until it started to get boring. ✔️liked the H
Asher went to prison two years ago when he was 27- years old. His lawyer sucked but then Camilla and her team are doing their best to lessen his sentence.
I really enjoyed these two teasing each other and that she was able to give Asher hope. I can't deny that I found their interaction hot.
I really enjoyed this audiobook but I decided to only give it four start because while I enjoyed the whole book I also found the ending lacking? I feel like there should've been epilogue or a sequel. I really would've wanted to know what was going to happen next.
Also what really happened to Camilla? I feel like we never really got a straight answer.
I'm sure I've heard this narrator dozens of times - her voice is great and she reads well. But sometimes she drags out the last syllable of a word/sentence and it drives me crazy! The story itself was decent. However, her confession at the end was a huge let down. I thought there was a very particular reason she wanted to help him out of jail, but I don't really understand why, even after she 'explained' it to him. I feel like there was something in her past that tied her to him, but her confession was pretty bland and disappointing. Not a terrible RMR Podcast this week, but I was let down by the confession at the end and lack of character background on Camilla.
Sure, this is a hot romance but the title makes no justice to the subtle, beautiful writing of how two characters built up each other. There is trauma (not strongly mentioned, but there may be some triggers for some) almost healing in a little twisted way and two people who change each other's life. Just another proof that romance and erotica, when written well, speak of so much more than people coming together in love.
I listened to this free audio book on Read Me Romance podcast.
Asher and Camilla meet in prison when after Asher's arrested and Camilla wants to see him freed. Camilla talks of this "darkness" in her and she's fixated on Asher because she thinks he speaks to that darkness of hers. In actuality, these two are cute and sexy.
The build-up was sheer ear-gasm. I love the teasing throughout; it made the ending that much more satisfying.
Overall, loved the audiobook. Super, super hot, and I only wish there was an epilogue with more sexy times. hahaha.
Fantasy with a Felon was exactly what I needed. A short, sexy AF story about a girl who wants to prove a guys innocence, and once she does, she wants to bang him. Let me tell youuuuuuuu, QB can write!!! There was a point where I was listening to the story in target and legit started getting a hot flash because JESUSSSSSSS this book was fucking hotttttt!
I don't know why I've waited this long to read her. Now that I've gotten a little glimpse, I can for-see an obsession forming. I can't wait to read more from this super talented author that's written some of the most sexiest shit I've ever read(well, listened to)!!
Title: Fantasy with a Felon Author: Q. B. Tyler Format: Audio Narrator: Kelsey Navarro Genre: Romance, prison Standalone: yes Part of a Series: no POV: Asher, Camila Steam Level: Slow burn to toasty 4/5
I listened to this audiobook on the Read Me Romance podcast. Asher is in jail, serving time for killing his sister’s rapist. Camila is a student, studying to become a paralegal. She convinces her class to take on Asher’s case. OMG it’s hot with instant attraction, contraband love notes and sexy fantasies that continually build the tension.
Favorite Quote: I’m very fond of you but I want to fuck you like I hate you.
Let me put it this way...if your turkey timer pops up at the thought of an incarcerated badass growly hero (who’s guilty but for a good reason....I’m sure that’s a thing, right? IDK...LOL) lusting after his nubile, innocent looking (but maybe not so much in reality) lawyer, then this one is for you. Hawwt. Filthy. Kinky. Needed all the AC vents in the car pointed towards me while I listened...and I still nearly drove into the bracken. 😜😜🤣🤣
Entertaining and hot quick read! This book would definitely fall in the smutty category, but the characters and storyline were super interesting. I enjoyed how Asher and Camila got to know each other and developed strong chemistry and sexual tension. I just wished the story and characters were developed more and there was more detail. I think the plot line was great and could’ve easily been a full novel. But if your looking for something short and sexy this is definitely the book for you.
I’m not a big audio fan but I’m trying out some of the free Read Me Romance podcasts audio shorts. I liked the heroine’s motivation for going after the hero in this one and would have liked more background on that. It is essentially an instalove with lots of steam but I didn’t really feel the chemistry between them, not sure if that is related to it being audio or not since I’m new to listening to steamy books.
I listened to this audiobook from the Read Me Romance Podcast and I enjoyed it. It had an interesting plot and interesting characters. I also liked the narrator. As a whole, this is one of the better books featured in the podcast IMO. Perhaps there could have been a bit more detail about the characters but other than that, this was fun, short, steamy and with a HEA.
I liked the H. The h on the other hand, I found anoying. She came off as a immature and so hyper focused on sex it became annoying. I get that most of the book is a build up of the sexual tension between them but she rubbed me the wrong way. Plus, I think it's weird when you have a woman narrate a male characters part.
Method:audiobook Rating:4/5 stars H rating:4/5 - Asher h rating:4/5 - Camilla Drama:3/5 Thoughts:Loved this! Will be listening to more RMR podcast stories!
I really thought this would be a bit out of my comfort zone since my dad was a cop and felons are not exactly sexy to me. But what this one goes to prison for is justifiable homicide in my opinion. The scenes just might set you headphones on fire so be prepared!
Ok, the chemistry between the two leads is very hot. But I couldn’t quite get past the cliche of the sweet young heroine falling for the big strong killer. If you can go with that, you’ll enjoy this. (It's the sweet-young-thing part I had a problem with.)
