Before this book was released I thought it was going to be a hard sell to get me to like Julie. She was such a bitch in Protecting Fiona that I never thought I could stand her much less like her. After reading this book though I not only liked her but felt sorry for her. That's what I get for doubting the best author out there. She has so much talent for writing that she can take a very much hated character from one of her earlier stories and totally turn her around and make her loveable! Once again she has created this hot Alpha SEAL that makes you want to grab him and lick from one end to another. The Commander is so totally hot that one glass of wine just wasn't enough. The only problem I had with this book and other Susan Stoker books is that they are just not long enough. I believe the woman could write a book with 10,000 pages and once I got to the end I would think it was too short. If you have time you need to read her books, and if you don't have time then you need to make time!!!

July 23, 2024Fan-freaking-tastic! I really had a severe dislike for Julie in Protecting Fiona, as was Susan's plan, but within 3 paragraphs of this book I felt bad for her and wanted to hug her. When I heard she was getting her own book, I just knew she would be redeemed in my eyes, because I started thinking about what could've made her react that way and how she was coping afterwards. This is now one or my favorite books of the series. Yes, I said that. It's tied for second place (Protecting Cheyenne is my #1 because...DUDE!) with Protecting Jessyka and (irony here) Protecting Fiona.
There is a reason Susan became one of my favorite authors after I first read Protecting Caroline, book 1 in the series, and this book is another brilliant example of why. She made us hate Julie in one book, then fall in love with her while crying right along with her and cheering as she finds love in this one. That, my fellow bookworms, takes natural talent which she has in aces, (ha inside joke from the series) err, spades. It's why I have devoured every book with her name on it and absolutely loved all of them.
So Julie has really grown since she was kidnapped and almost forced into sex slavery, along with Fiona. While she wasn't there as long as Fiona, she did indeed endure a horrific time with her captors. She knows she was absolutely horrible to Fiona and her rescuers and now wants to thank them for saving her and apologize for her behavior. She meets with Zane (shout out to Cat Johnson's SEAL series) and his girlfriend, Missy, who is a friend of Julie's, and tells her story. Zane sees she is sincere and gives her Tex's number. Tex! Tex! Tex! He knows everyone. LOL She then talks to Tex and is given Patrick Hurt's number, the guys' commanding officer. They talk, they meet, there's an attraction and he asks her out. Ooh yeah, that could get awkward. Does it? Does she meet the guys and apologize? Does she meet Fiona? If you're as addicted to this series as I am, you are dying to know Patrick and Julie's story. Read it!!! You'll love it and want to buy me presents as a thank you. While I appreciate the thought, no presents are necessary. LOL Happy reading!!!

This book was really short, but it was really good. I was unsure about reading Julie's. I'm glad I gave it a chance! It still had the action I love, but it also gave Fiona's story a happy ending!

Protecting Fiona was my gateway into the world that is Susan Stoker. And in PF, Julie was a horrible person! Selfish, mean, rude, just awful! And yet, because I always want everyone to be redeemed (I was rooting for Regina & Emma to be friends on Once Upon A Time), when Susan posted to her FB that Julie was getting a story... I was super excited!
Julie & Patrick's story does not disappoint! I was practically in tears through the whole thing, because the heart of Julie turned out to be a beautiful thing. Now, if you're looking for an in-depth look into the healing & how she works through her ordeal & all of that, this is not that story. She's been to therapy & she's healing from the horrific experience she'd been through. This is about her working through her guilt for how she treated Fiona & Cookie, finding forgiveness in herself for herself, and apologizing & thanking the men who saved her, and the woman she was rescued with. And it's a quick read. But, even tho she says several times that she doesn't think she & Fiona will ever be besties, because of the way the other women have been written in this series, I could see them accepting her into their fold in the future. I hope for that, because Julie has worked really hard to be her best self, and I think THAT Julie is someone they could all be friends with. : )

Julie just wants to be a better person. She has realized she was a spoiled brat and needs to change and she has. Loved this story about finding forgiveness. Loved these hot seals!!

Julie gets a happily second chance!
You first read about Julie in Protecting Fiona. I gotta say I didn't like her at all in that story But Susan did an amazing job in giving Julie her life back and moving on with someone special in this short novella.

Susan did it again!!

Ok, after reading Protecting Fiona I was pretty sure I'd never forgive Julie for how she acted. I was wrong and freely admit it. After being able to get into Julie's head and seeing how she had turned her life around, changed her attitude, grown up, got counseling, and actually took herself in hand, I can forgive her. This is not just a story of love with a SEAL. This is a story of someone learning to forgive herself as much as asking others to forgive her. I doubt Julie will ever be "one of the gang" with the girls, but I do feel that if ever she needed them, they would help. Can we tell I loved this book? Well done Mrs Stoker!

Just loved it.
Getting to see the gang again and getting to know Hurt and Julie.
She went through a lot and came out the other side a stronger and better person.
Julie also gets the love and support of a wonderful man.
Looking forward to more....now have to go back and read the series again

Redemption at its finest
First you hate Julie in protecting Fiona after Julie tried to leave her behind to save herself. Now she has redeemed herself however will she ever fit in with the girls? I loved how this story unfolded. Wished there was more to it however that is because I can never get enough of Susan's books, I never want them to end.

I didn't think I would like Julie after her intro in Fiona's story…however, Susan did a wonderful job in giving Julie a second chance. I also enjoyed getting to know Hurt after all the references as Commander in the guys’ stories. Would definitely recommend this book. It's always nice to catch up with Stoker's seal team. I can't wait to read about Tex and his match!

"Protecting Julie" is a novella that I wasn't sure I wanted to read, but I finally decided to give it a chance and I am so glad that I did. Julie Lytle was the woman that the SEAL's went to rescue in "Protecting Fiona" and I did not like her even a little bit in that book. Now she is ashamed of the way she acted and is trying to turn her life around from being the spoiled little rich daughter of a Senator, in other words a brat. She feels like she needs to talk to the SEAL's that rescued her to thank them and to apologize, but those guys aren't really wanting to that, they had enough of Julie in their previous encounter with her. Patrick Hurt, the commander of the SEAL team sees something in Julie that maybe other people have missed, he feels like she is trying to turn the page on her past and move forward with a better future. Hey, if the Commander sees something in her then there is something there to see.
I cannot believe that this author made me like a character that I loathed as much as I did Julie, but she did it!

She was shamed by how she had behaved towards another woman who was rescued at the same time she had been and further she cringed on her behavior towards the Seal's who rescued her and the other woman held there.
Julie is desperate to make amends and through a friend who also endured her own nightmare, she is connected to Patrick Hurt Commander of the Seal's that saved her life. Now she has to prove tp him that she is not the same person she was he will grant her request to meet them, but to her surprise the man makes a request of his own.
Will she be able to do what she needs to do to redeem herself, will she be able to stay with Patrick? Read to find out, its a great story and the characters are as always fantastic.

I was wondering from an earlier book if the woman we all loved-to-hate, Julie, would get her own story and in the process redemption. Hurray! She did.
Julie was kidnapped and taken to the jungles of Mexico. She was raped repeatedly and on her way to being sold as a sex-slave. There was another woman, Fiona, who had been there for months. When they were rescued by the Navy SEALS, paid for by her father the senator, (I didn't know you could pay to have a SEAL rescue you--I will keep that in mind!!) she was an ungrateful wretch. Selfish wanting to leave the other woman behind, she also got mad because there wasn't enough to eat. She put her rescuer and the other victim down terribly. They couldn't wait to be rid of her. She didn't even have the manners to thank the SEAL for saving her.
This book turns it all around as Julie has had a life-changing epiphany and meets the SEAL of her dreams.

Julie was introduced in Protecting Fiona. The Senator’s daughter Cookie rescued along with Fiona. Patrick Hurt is the SEAL Team’s commander.

Julie from Cookie & Fiona’s book moves from DC to California, looking for a new start. She opens a used clothing boutique, selling cast off designer wear with the intention of donating suits for interviews to women who couldn’t otherwise afford them.
She gets it in her head she wants to apologize to the SEALs who rescued her for her bratty behavior. She manages to get contact info for Tex, who after careful consideration gets her in contact with the SEAL’s commander. He meets her at the beach to hear her story, agreeing to ask the SEALs whether they are willing to hear her out.
In the meantime, Caroline, Alabama, and Summer check out her boutique and have a positive first impression of her. But when they come back with all six women, Fiona is shell shocked and most of the women turn nasty. As always, Caroline is the voice of reason.
Hurt who asked Julie out to dinner that first day on the beach is stood up when it comes to their dinner date. But he continues to pursue her. They are dating when Julie notices a bunch of kids caught up in a powerful rip tide. She calls Hurt who calls the SEALs for a water based rescue. In the meantime, Julia jumps in to help a struggling 5 year old.
Hurt, Wolf, and Cookie are on the boat that pulls them out. No time like the present. Cookie accepts Julie’s apology and thanks. They use Julie’s rescue of the little boy as a metaphor to explain why no thanks are necessary. But later Hurt arranges for her to speak with the whole team, plus Fiona. They are gracious with their forgiveness, comfortable enough to coexist within the same small town.
Julie’s redemption, including the beach rescue, was a nice bonus, but the romance component felt a bit forced to me. The insta-love felt off and the easy fall into intimacy a little too smooth. Julie still has nightmares, but magically has no sexual issues, despite her history.

It's funny, besides Alabama's and Jess's story, I enjoyed this short novella much more than the rest of the full length novel in this series. Julie was real and flawed. She knew it and she took responsibility for her behavior whereas all the girls in the book disgusted me. They were stuck-up, haughty, b*tches to a girl they didn't even know. I get that Fiona told them how Julie acted but they acted as if they were personally hurt. It wasn't right for them to treat her so callously, they acted just as bad as she did back then but at least Julie grew up. These girls should already know better how to treat a person. Three of them had already met her and could obviously see she was not the same girl from what Fiona had told them of her. I was extremely disappointed that Alabama turned on her so quickly because she's usually smart and level headed but she let me down. Not to mention the questionable look that Summer gave her when she talked about how she wasn't in it for money she genuinely wanted to help people. So what, every single person not in your little circle is automatically a bad person with a hidden agenda. These girls are honestly "mean girls" underneath their innocent face. They brag about their husbands being SEAL's to random people as if they're a trophy husband, they always think the worst of someone and try to warn them off of their husband's friends, and they judge and criticize people that they don't even know. Julie being younger than them and in a year and a half has become more of a mature adult than they've all been since the series has started.
I love the person Julie has become and I like her much more than any of the other girls at this point. She's doing good things with her life, she's redeemed herself by reaching out and apologizing, and even better, she has a life of her own that doesn't revolve around a man. She's come a long way and I actually wish her book was longer. She was much more interesting, completely realistic, and I had more fun getting to know her as a new person. I hope she does her own thing and doesn't get caught up in the web of the wannabe Plastics, the knockoff Flawless Four, the generic Heathers. They're fake and hypocrites with their noses and chins in the air. Becoming one of them would put her right back at square one and I like Julie as she is now.

I honestly think that should have been her decision even if he thought she needed it and it was her idea in the first place. I'm a firm believer that "you know what's best for you" not someone else. I get that he thought he was helping but I still think he should have left it alone and up to her. I also don't like how he used their relationship as a bargaining chip to get her to meet the team. Just because they're not on good terms with Julie doesn't mean she can't go to events with him. She can be included in his work gatherings and make friends that aren't from that group. All they have to do is respectfully acknowledge each other and move on. I'm sure those aren't his only friends and if his friend's wives were being disrespectful to Julie he wouldn't want to be around them anyway. Overall, a satisfying book. I won't read it again because it's more of a bonus to the series and really short but I enjoyed it.

I'm sure those aren't his only friends and if his friend's wives were being disrespectful to Julie he wouldn't want to be around them anyway. Overall, a satisfying book. I won't read it again because it's more of a bonus to the series and really short but I enjoyed it.

Susan Stoker has written an inspiring and inspirational story; she did a total 360 degree turn on Julie Lytle’s character; I have gone from disliking the woman to holding a place in my heart for the way she recognised her behaviour and worked hard to change her life. This is a story about learning to forgive; learning to forgive ourselves for our wrongs and those who have treated us badly. Patrick Hurt wasn’t a man to ever place his SEAL’s at risk or give them unnecessary hindrances; however being the kind and compassionate man he is deep down he could feel that Julie wasn’t the same woman his men had rescued. Patrick was a loveable character; he wasn’t one to play around and said upfront what his feelings were. Without a doubt Susan will have you questioning your original feelings towards Julie and have you considering your future actions towards those who have either hurt you or someone you care about. She reminds you that people can change and they do change; and we should help them on their journey of rediscovery.
I recommend reading Protecting Fiona before you read Protecting Julie; however to fully enjoy this book I would suggest you read Books #1 to #6 of the Seal of Protection series.
If you love contemporary, suspenseful, military romances you will love the Seal of Protection series by Susan Stoker.

Being captive with Fiona she had acted so despicable she now knew she had to do apologize to them but getting to closer to them was going to be tough however the only person that could do it was their Commander. But would he believe her she was not the same person?
Commander Patrick Hurt was a hardass so so that is how he liked for his team to see. Knowing his team was the best he was proud of them and being a part of that family. When he gets that phone call from Julie Lytle he knew who she was and he knew his team was not pleased with her. But what he didn't expect was to find himself attractive to her.
Can Julie redeemed herself with the team so she could moved on. How can she proved to Commander Hurt he is not alone and she finds him so attractive?
Susan Stoker has done it again!!! She has delivered one helluva book and like always this SEALS will melt your heart all over again.
We knew Commander Hurt as a tough yet understanding man but never did I realized he was this good looking and understanding. I am happy we finally see the softer side of him.
If you haven't met the SEAL of Protection guys you must do so. This group of alpha hot sexy men will have you fantasizing about them. This is a stand-alone book but we recommend for you to read the whole series for a maximum experience.

This was short but sweet. Julie, whom we first met in Protecting Fiona, wants to make amends to them for the awful way she treated the SEALs who rescued her from a sex slave ring. Them and the woman who'd been imprisoned with her. Born into privilege, she'd been spoiled, pampered, self-centered, and a total witch. After her kidnapping she regretted her behavior, was ashamed of the fact she never even thanked the men who risked their lives for her. Determined to turn her life around, she moves to California and starts a business geared towards helping others. Her plan is to contact the SEALs and apologize in person. But first she has to plead her case to their commander Patrick Hurt.
Patrick is intrigued by the young woman who calls him wanting to see his team. He decides to meet her before letting her anywhere near his guys. What he finds when he does isn't what he expected. When Julie tells him her story, stating her case, he asks her out. Surprisingly enough, she agrees. Before they can meet him, however, Fiona and her friends come in the store. Both women are stunned. Of course Fiona' s friends are outraged on her behalf and don't want to hear her apology. This convinces Julie she doesn't stand a chance of receiving forgiveness from the SEALs which tells her there is no sense in going out with Patrick. Except fate intervenes.

Loved it!
At first when I read that Julie is getting a book with Commander Hurt, I didn't like it. But Julie redeemed herself and proved that she was sorry and why she acted that way.

So what do you do to a character that was not nice in a prior book, have her redeem herself in a new Kindle world. Introduced to the Commander who has made appearances in prior books and sooo deserved his own story. Looking forward to the rest of the series with bated breath.

Unexpectedly great!
This was not what I was expecting, I am glad to say. A realistic story of redemption. Thank you Susan for being real. I even kind of liked Julie a little and your are correct...everyone deserves a second chance. Well done Susan...well done!

I enjoyed Protection Julie. It was nice to see how she realized what a terrible person she had been to the people who risked her life to save her. The realization making her want to be a better person.
