Bob finally gets his wish, a chance to make peace with the Squirrels. His friend Natti is appointed Ambassador, and things look bright. Too bad all the Squirrels don’t want peace with Bob.
I’m a house husband. I keep things together while my wonderful wife makes our living. I’ve worked as a machinist, short order cook, electronics assembly tech, and several other jobs. My hobbies include vehicle maintenance, (I’ve had the transmission out of my truck. Twice) free flight airplanes, electronics, and shooting. I was born and raised in the Ozarks, and now live in Mid-Missouri.
Here's a book that has action and humour. I enjoy the pop culture references through out the story and had a tough time putting the book down. Can't wait for the next installment.
Before starting I was getting a bit tired and irritated with the ‘Squirrel’ storyline and this book didn’t help. This book also seemed to have more inconsistencies than usual, I presume the author was trying to introduce some jeopardy into the story, but he did this by taking so many liberties it just became annoying.
I’m not entirely sure why, but at times I found this harder going than the previous books. If possible I would have given 2.5 stars.
Jerry continues to make me smile! Bob & Nikki continue to keep the Galaxy safe from the doom & gloom of US media & the left wing nut cases. I find the humor and whit in Jerry's stories good for relieving stress. You know Bob is going to win, but getting there is the fun part. Bob finally meets the squirrel emperor (oops!), but they don't look done & there's another mystery in the wings. If you want serious hard-core sci-fi drama go away. These stories are for light hearted entertainment of the best quality. CAUTION!: Do not read this book while drinking milk (or anything else) if you don't want to drown your reading device. Things all of a sudden pop up & it will be awhile before you can breathe again. It is NOT slap stick humor it sneaks up on you. I am glad Jerry is having a lot of fun writing these stories because the world sure needs them now.
Another great book by Jerry Boyd. In this one, Bob and Nikki navigate relations with the squirrel empire and once again their resourcefulness makes a huge difference. One of the things I do when I read, especially in a series like this one is to figure out why I like what I am reading. I mean clearly to have read eleven books in a series in just a few months, there must be something with which I am connecting, and there is. It might be the characters, or the humor or the action and in the case of the Bob and Nikki series all of those things are available in abundance, but I think it's something more. The Bob character is a man who is clearly in over his head, and yet he has learned to rely on the people around him, tapping into their gifts and talents as well as his own resourcefulness which are things I try too cultivate in my own life, but even more so is a guy who just wants to do good and help and bless as many as possible. Bottom line, I have really grown to love these books and I think you will too so start at Bob's Saucer Repair and keep going, I think you will be glad you did.
I like this series in general, but the treatment of Frank really bothered me in this one - in that it wasn't nearly harsh enough. Bob doesn't strike me as being written as someone who believes in expediency making right, and yet he's tolerant of someone repeatedly and knowingly over-writing sentient being's personalities, implanting commands that they have to follow, etc. The first time it happened, maybe it was out of ignorance in not viewing the bots as people, but Bob had a talk with him, he indicated he understood, and did it again.
His punishment for overwriting several personalities / implanting commands that must be obeyed was to be sent to do manual labor for a few weeks because Bob feels like he needs him.
While several other things (writing style, etc) have bothered me with the series, this was the one that just wasn't internally consistent. I'm done here.
I was sure there were 12 books in this series so imagine my disappointment when I realized that this was the LAST BOOK! Now how am I going to get to sleep? I really want to there when Nikki has her babies. Please tell me you have more in your brain and are busy converting it to your computer. If you need a volunteer reader, just ask. I will be more than happy to read anything you need correcting. While not an English teacher, I have a wonderful grasp of how things should be written. PLEASE. I need more Space Cadet and Commodore Caveman! Oh, and did I miss reading something? What happened with Lylah?
Thank you for the wonderful times my husband and I have had reading these books. Now to go see what else you have written.
As much as I enjoy this series, sometimes I’m not sure why I do. There frequently is more dialog than there should be, and following the speakers is sometimes muddled. There are frequent “magic recoveries” with newly found tech providing a necessary save. And yet ....? I like the characters and the sometimes snarky banter, I like that the good guys win. I like that losses are never ignored and yet not over emphasized either.
This has been a good series and I feel it’s not yet complete. There are developing story threads yet to be resolved so I’m hoping for more installments. Thanks to Mr. Boyd for a most entertaining journey through space!
Yet another excellent, funny, most enjoyable read!
This series is so readable I have great difficulty putting any of the books down. They also got my wife and I thinking about any sounds that we can not hear that cause both of us to tense up. In my case, I get from 1 to three headaches every day. These have been diagnosed as migraines and the Triptan class of drugs helps a lot. On the other hand, when we go on vacation, we like to camp in remote areas where there are no electronic signals because we both feel better there. This all reminds us of the 'teaching machine' problem Nikki and Bob fixed. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?
The saga continues in it's usual humorous way with Bob finally making progress with the Oak Empire only to find clues to another sentient species out there. There are the usual up and downs along the way and the usual cultural references. The good old boy continues to make his mark on the galaxy. If you've enjoyed previous books in the series your like this but if new so much water has flowed under the bridge that getting into it would be difficult.
Mistakes: I didn’t find any. I do wish that there was a title page or something to separate the start of the book from the list of characters and ships though.
Plot: Trying to make peace with the Squirrels is tough when you have to deal with all kinds of shady actions from the nut cartel.
Characters: I do enjoy the characters, I wish Bob would stop trying to solve everything with as little bloodshed as possible. Sometimes you need to just stack up bodies.
I’ve loved reading all the books in the Bob & Nikki series!
All the characters, humans, bots, Squatch, & Squirrel (well, except for Frank) have been likable, fun to read about, and have definitely been among the story elements that keep me fascinated with this series!
I quite hate that I’ve come to last book and now have to wait for Mr. Boyd to imagine new adventures for the cast and get a next book published! I hope he writes quickly!!!
I just love these books, but I notice that there are only three (3) more books, and then what? Someone is falling down on the job, and it isn't me! Mr. Boyd has an interesting mind, and a fertile imagination. There is a degree of sophistication here that I didn't think to find, but I'm happy to see it. Thank you for bringing these books to me! I definitely recommend.
The books in this series has been a rollercoaster of fun. Keep it up. When I started this series I was looking for something out of the ordinary, boy did I find it. The characters have been likable the settings have been reasonable and the plot lines have been thought out. And all I can say is keep up the good work!
Bob and Nikki's further adventures. Makes me think about going to the Boston Mountains or thereabouts in Arkansas /Missouri area to look for the Saucer Repair shop and see if Topper and his garage band would play a set for me. Bob finally gets to put on a peacemakers hat and work out a treaty or two with the Squirrels
This book was up to the same standard as all his books have been. I would give them all a High 5. I look forward to reading more.
I have enjoyed the fast pace and continued storyline. I would recommend Mr. Boyd to anyone. At 73 I suppose I am somewhat older than most of his readers.
Got your hillbillies, aliens, bigfoots! What more do you need for a space opera? Glad you asked! Add in space flying squirrels and mix well for lots of laughter and adventure. Get out your sense of fun, hang up your disbelief, you're in for a treat 👣👣👣
Ok. I cannot believe how enjoyable these books are. This is #11, and I have read each one, some multiple times because as each new one comes out, I reread the others. They’re just that good. The only quibble I have, and it’s definitely not a complaint is that there are no chapters, which makes them almost impossible to put down! Great work Jerry, and looking forward to a gazillion more!
I'm reading every book Jerry Boyd has written as fast as he is published. They're so enjoyable to read. Love the interaction with the aliens. The humour, the tongue in cheek politics on all sides. Sometimes I think he comes pretty close to reality in his personalities.
No you won't find that in the book. I just had to say it though. Another great book that kept me up all night to read it. You will love 💘 as much as me. I can't wait for the next one but I need some sleep before I think about it. I'm glad it is a Sunday. Good night/morning LOL. No I'm not going to give any hints. Read the book!
Eleven books in and almost as fresh as the first one
The humor continues, but the content is a little deeper. I still like the series, but many authors fall into a trap of repeating the past but just changing names. The author is still pushing the long negative forward without being repetitious . This is not as fresh and new as volume 1, but few series are.
Careful reading the characters intro at the start of the book as it gives away a few things in the book as the characters status is as at the end of the book rather than at the start, it had me confused as I thought I missed some things in the previous book. Still a good read as per the other books in this ongoing series.
Enfoumus monkey makes peace with the tricky squirrels
Bob has the chance to get the squirrels to realize he wants to trade with them not make war. Of course there is a group who have fixed the price on the squirrels favorite treat. They seem to be willing to do anything to stop the peace talks. Of course Bob is great at figuring out what they are up to with little evidence.
All I can say is, I'm enjoying these books and hope they never end. Its hard enough finding suitable entertainment in any form nowadays and finding these books are not only enjoyable but abundant is a pleasure to contemplate. I won't have to spent so much time in the searching for some time to come.
Mr. Boyd has a fresh style and clearly enjoys telling a funny story. I also like it that there are no major cliffhangers, yet I am always looking forward to the next tale. I hope it goes for a long while.
Bob, Nikki, and the rest of the crew are aboard the Gene Cernan orbiting Charlie’s Planet when the Squirrels attack and the trouble starts. An entertaining story.
Got tired of waiting for more fun reads,so I reread a!l the books..now that i have finished this one, would you please publish faster or add lots more chapters?Your stories keep my boat floating on Tablerock lake. Joe Wharton
How much fun can you pack into a series of novels? Mr. Boyd seems to have an infinite capacity for puns and laughter. These folks see real. I sure hope to see many more books, and perhaps even an expanded universe. More books please!
I really enjoyed this continuation of the series. It was a bit painful for me to wait for this book as the cliffhanger was well placed. I like how the story is developing with hinted at new saucer persons. I will be on pins and needles waiting for the next installment. Bob is such a AH.
