I published my first book in 2004. It became an immediate collector's item. In fact I still have several hundred copies collecting dust in my attic. Critics everywhere said it belonged right up there between Ernest Hemingway and Robert E Howard—on an alphabetical bookshelf.

I write stories that are mostly humorous. Occasionally I try my hand at something more serious. The results vary. My influences include Rocky & Bullwinkle, 1950s sci-fi movies, and silver-age comics.

I live in Texas with my wife and cats. You can contact me at jamesroyhold@gmail.com.

Goodness! This one tore me apart at times and the last few pages actually sent a chill down my spine. I am so accustomed to the humor in Mr. Hold's other works that this one through me for a loop. There is a bit of humor but the story does not call for a lot of humor and this story will stay with me for a long time and is something I will read again and again.

Moving, with an ending that makes you think. Very bleak. A good rock and roll reminiscence.
