This far into my magical forty makeover, I thought I’d seen it all.
That I knew it all.
Boy, was I wrong.
After I’d found my Elven grandfather, Laslow, and brought him back to the human world, I was convinced that my life was on the upswing. Things with Hunter were good. Gram’s and mom were happy. And it seemed all the fires in my life had been put out.
I could’ve left well enough alone . . . but I still had lingering questions about the hate between the fae and the witches. They say knowing your history can give you the tools to shape your future. But when you creep into the past, you’re bound to find things you don’t like.
Especially with a past like mine.
I’d never belong anywhere as long as the two parts of me were enemies, so I decided it was time to completely shake things up and defeat the evil King Inueya of the fae world and reunite our lands.
Go big or go home, right?
So now, here I am, spandex and all, in a completely foreign world while I attempt to find the true ruler of the land of the fae. If only I could go back and tell my thirty-nine year-old self what sort of craziness she was about to dive into.
This was amazing !! This series is getting better and better every single one!! When there’s a challenge you know Hunter and your girl Shannon are here to get things done !! I love this series and I plan to continue this until the very end !!
I liked books 1-4, but I might be done with this series now. While I expect some degree of cheesiness from this type of series, it was over the top in this book. The writing was awful, and multiple errors were present. The writing felt very juvenile by the end. The plot was rushed with a major part of the book almost completely wrapped up in a couple of chapters. I had to force myself to finish this one.
I'm not sure what happened with this book, but it's like someone was writing a children's story. Nothing like the previous books. And there is a glaring error on page 132 that doesn't work later on in the book. I hope that the author fixes it so Lazlo doesn't burn to a crisp.
I enjoyed these books so much I read them in a weekend. I can’t wait for more. I’m retired, so these women over 40 books are perfect for me. There are fairies, witches, fae and more. Great job and thanks for brightening up my days while I am stuck at home due to the virus
I have read all of the numerous midlife women paranormal series and along with Shannon Mayer ,Robyn Peterman, Dyranda Jones this is a favorite of mine. Fast paced with an intricate plot line and we'll developed characters that are very likeable. If you want to escape for awhile this is a great series to do it with.
Book 5 in the series. Midlife Mayhem. In this installment, troubles continues for Shannon and her crew. But in the end, they conquer the evil King but are not able to leave the Fae lands thus the next book. This series started out with a lot of interest and potential, but with each book, the writing seems to have gotten more sloppy, less crafted, and strangely fixated on random little side plots. Its main character, Shannon, is 40, but acts like a child. The plot is very simplistic, but at times still good regardless. I feel like the characters were not developed to their full potential as well as their interactions, relationships. But hopefully this will change in the next books. But on a high note, it was an intense mind trip to travel all the places that they did in such a short amount of time. There was emotional turmoil during the whole story. I am hoping the next books are better.
Was this as good as the previous books? No Was the continuing plot still there? Mostly and I’m still enjoying that which is why I keep reading. What could be better? The strength of the writing and especially the editing continual grammar mistakes are annoying. What I love well Shannon is a good character she could be better her character is a good work in progress and I’m hanging in there hoping she gets better. I’m enjoying the different worlds some of the descriptive writing is good some of it gets changed and lost.
This continuation of the story is fast paced and exciting! Intrigue and danger mixed with humor as we meet new characters. Shannon and Hunter's romance continues to have bumps in the road. Adora gets to spend A bit of time with her true love and having a Grandfather is A new experience for Shannon. A new beginning at the end and kept me wanting more! Looking forward to the next installment.
Plot keeps me coming back. Editing in this book is poorly done. It required me to go back several times to reread a sentence or paragraph to decipher what the author meant. I will continue the series and hope the her heroine does not get any meaner to her supposed hero and the plot continues to entertain but suggest slowing down to polish the final draft before publishing. Those of us who are fans of the series will wait.

Shannon gains more in power, but still sucks at control. Her relationship with Hunter has ups and downs. Why does she expect Hunter's behavior prior to learning the truth to be similar to after he found out that the controlling Council was evil? What do you do about an evil usurper King? I like the action, humor, and romance. I look forward to another book.
I'm really enjoying this series. It's been fun with all the ups and downs. I'll keep reading. I have to tell the author - it is the Winkies that have that march and song you are describing in this book. Not the evil monkeys. The monkey's were the Wicked Witch's servants. The Winkies are the guards. You're welcome, lol.
When Laslow is kidnapped and taken to fae, Shannon and the halflings follow to rescue him. They free him and find the princess, and do a spell to show who is the rightful ruler. Ethereal takes over the kingdom. When they try to go back home there is no veil, they are stuck in fae land
I like that this series moves at a rather fast pace. I like the addition of the new characters. This was a magical book with tons of creativity. Chase is a master at writing detailed magical worlds that truly bring alive the characters and setting.
Once I started this book series I just couldn't stop reading! I love reading paranormal fantasy books with mystery and family binds. If this is what you like, you will love reading this series, you won't regret it. 😊
Yep! I was so into Shandra and Hunter plus all the hafelings I wasn't prepared for the 5 books to turn into a wait get see what happens. Great story to keep you captivated through many books.
Life just keeps getting stranger for Shannon and friends. Searching for halflings, a missing fae princess and trying to stay alive. Adventure and danger. Happy for now ending. Love the series. Can't wait to read the next book.
This book was fascinating. The character descriptions and worlds was were so descriptive I felt like I was sitting on the shoulder of the main character watching and experiencing everything she was. I cannot wait for the next book.
I felt I was rushing right along by Shannon' s and the others sides as they raced to restore the fae world to its former glory. And now that they have, getting back home doesn't look like it's gonna be too easy. This series is just full of fun adventures.
It was an intense mind trip to travel all the places that they did in such a short amount of time. There was emotional turmoil during the whole story. It kept me on my toes.
I love the themes of this series which have come to the forefront in this book. These are strong people fighting - women and men, different species fighting together, overcoming inequality. It is light, romance paranormal fiction with a strong message. Loving it.
I got the audiobook for this one and Traci Odom really brought life to all the various characters. Wow, what a talent to be able to do that so beautifully. Great narration! Naturally, I always enjoy stories by Melinda Chase. Love the ending also!! Read it, or listen, to find out for yourself. ❤️
The series should have ended before now. Devoured the series and then this book became the biggest whining rehash of complaints for societal systems it became obvious, preachy, and a struggle to complete.
I love Shannon. I love how she doesn't care what has to be done, she finds a way to get it done and kick butt. I hate when the book ends but can't wait for the next one.
