Great collection for Halloween. There are a lot of stories here: 14 short stories and an 8 chapter novella. Some are ghost stories in a classic vein, while others are hair-raising in different ways. I don’t want to spoil the surprise!
Many of these would be great to read aloud. They all share a wonderful sense of place. Not that they’re set in the same place, but the setting of each story is an integral part of it, and feels deeply rooted. Whether in Scotland’s bare moors, Wales’ rainy peaks, or deep in the Paris catacombs, you know exactly where you are.
The question is who - or what - is there with you?
This is part of a collection of stories by the same author, all reflecting different regions that he’s familiar with, and clearly enjoys. I recommend all of them!
FYI: you can also find this author reading classic ghost stories, others’ and his own, on the Classic Ghost Stories podcast.
Fifteen tales of horror are in this offering of Tony Walker's writings; good for curling up and reading on dark autumnal nights...preferably with wind, rain and a flickering fire to heighten the terror. Tales with twists on old themes. Tales that have the power to make one ponder. Tales that take off in a different direction from news stories that led Tony Walker to pen the tale. Tales with a good build on the terror levels.
Some are available for a listen on Tony's YouTube channel: Classic Ghost Stories Podcast, read or told by Tony Walker.
Mr. Walker is a very talented writer. His stories are carefully crafted. He weaves his stories with very detailed and engaging atmospheres and clever story lines.
Thoroughly entertaining read! Mr. Walker gives us a wide variety of chills and fun “why aren’t you running away?” sorts of moments! The stories are well-crafted and like all good ghost stories build from the “Hmm. That’s peculiar.” moment to the ultimate denouement of something truly awful.
Was a great lazy Sunday read. I really enjoyed the man in the tree, the woman at the door and the The lighthouse. All kept me engaged. All in all it a Good mix of old and new horror stories.
