Five books and more than 1400 pages of Voodoo, Vampires, Valor, and Villainy fill this magic academy fantasy boxset.
Being possessed has its advantages...
Annabelle Mulledy survived a Voodoo attack on her family as a child—but it left her possessed by the spirit of a nearly 200 year-old-girl. This girl, however, came with strange abilities bestowed upon her in the after life. When Kalfu, an evil Loa, discovers Annabelle he hopes to use her abilities to his advantage—to escape the spiritual realm and take a corporeal form. When Ogoun, the Loa of War, intervenes he recruits Annabelle to join him as a student at the Voodoo Academy. Will Annabelle master the arts, and fend off Kalfu’s spiritual assaults? Or, is she ultimately a puppet in a battle between Voodoo demigods?
Theophilus Monroe’s Annabelle Mulledy is a snarky badass heroine with attitude. Monroe draws on the legend and myth of Voodoo lore in a way that neither caricatures the arts as “demonic” nor glosses over the dark side of the Voodoo tradition. With dark magic, dragons, vampires, and a slow burn academy romance the Gates of Eden: The Voodoo Legacy complete series has something for everybody.
If you enjoy magic academy fantasy books and occult urban fantasy, especially books with a dark twist, then you will love Theophilus Monroe’s Voodoo Legacy. Fans of authors like Michael Anderle, Martha Carr, Linsey Hall, or Ramy Vance will love this compelling coming of age urban fantasy epic. Pick up your copy today!
Theophilus Monroe is a fantasy author with a knack for real-life characters whose supernatural experiences speak to the pangs of ordinary life. After earning his Ph.D. in Theology, he decided that academic treatises that no one will read (beyond other academics) was a dull way to spend his life. So, he began using his background in religious studies to create new worlds and forms of magic-informed by religious myths, ancient and modern-that would intrigue readers, inspire imaginations, and speak to real-world problems in fantastical ways.
“ Five books and more than 1400 pages of Voodoo, Vampires, Valor, and Villainy fill this magic academy fantasy boxset.”
Well who wouldn’t want to read this? I mean a complete collection so no waiting for each book I could not wait to dive in and OMG it is an awesome boxset! Action packed and full of twists and turns, a kick ass female mc, and loads of magic and suspense I just could not put this down! The author has a way of drawing you into the story and this amazing world they have designed and I really recommend it!
These books kept me held tight to the storyline as each book progressed. With great characters and some wicked twists and turns throughout you wont want to put them down either. Totally worth picking up
Fascinating, but at first, a bit confusing.. Vampires, Loa, magica, dragon, not quite dead, two souls in one body... At times it can all be a bit confusing. But interesting stories! You want to keep reading! With lot of action and fascinating characters. With the dark past of the south of the USA, slavery, as a background. When you expect this to be something like Harry Potter, think again. There are aspects which might remind you of those books, but these stories are much more complicated! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I finished book one, and wish I had never started. It is a waste of time and money. The inappropriate sexual jokes and comments fall flat and are what a twelve-year-old attempting to be funny would say. The characters are shallow and undeveloped. Plot? What plot. The author wouldn't know a plot if they tripped over it. The book also attempts to show how wonderful the author is by introducing every minority group and attempting to make them attractive and positive. Again, the plot and storyline using the minority characters break down because of a lack of the author's lack of knowledge and experience. The book sounds like something an academic that spent their life in school would write. After getting a job and working in the real world, they may be able to become an author. Learning how to construct a sentence, and writing a paragraph doesn't a good story make.
The Voodoo Legacy Voodoo Academy - Annabelle, just a normal modern-day white girl, and Isabelle, a 12-year-old slave from two centuries ago, have their souls fused together. On the way home from a graduation celebration, Annabell, with her older sister, Ashley, in the car, hits Mikah when he steps out in front of the car. Then Annabelle is offered a spot at the Voodoo Academy. This story had me laughing out loud and has plenty of action and romance, ending with a cliffhanger. Grim Tidings - Annabelle becomes entangled in Mercy Brown's plot to seize power by stealing the abilities of both Baron Samedi and Nico. This story includes action and romance, ending with a cliffhanger. Death Rites - I laughed a lot at the interactions between Annabelle and Pauli. Five students, each from a different aspect of the Academy, are chosen to participate in three trials to honor the late Nico. Annabelle is chosen by Marie Laveau and, using Marie's book "Death Rites", she, Mikah, and Pauli figure out how to pass the first trial. This story is full of various kinds of action and includes moments of romance, ending with a cliffhanger. Very highly recommended. After facing numerous challenges and undergoing a sweat lodge ritual with friends, Annabelle's and Isabelle's combined abilities make them a powerful duo capable of healing souls and bodies. This story is full of action, ending with a cliffhanger. Very highly recommended. Voodoo Queen - The original Voodoo Queen, Marie Laveau, is now deceased. Annabelle has lost Isabelle to Hailey, but ultimately, with the defeat of Kalfu, Isabelle and Mikah are able to connect on a spiritual level and will serve as the guardians of the crossroads. Additionally, Oggie has returned! This story is pretty much non-stop action, and with Annabelle the newly ordinated Voodoo Queen, it's time for Mercy to show her true worth. Very highly recommended. The Legacy of a Vampire Witch Bloody Hell - Would you make a deal with the god of death so you could live? That is exactly what Mercy Brown did. She was turned into a vampire by a centuries-old vampire to save herself a horrible death by consumption. With training from her sire, she learns to control her hunger and so becomes a vampire with a semblance of a conscience. Bloody Mad - Mercy is trying to ignore her bloodthirsty brother. When she is distracted, he takes over her body and proceeds to go on a rampage. Mercy feels a pinprick in her back and blacks out. When she comes to, she is lying on a bed wrapped in a straitjacket. Turns out, Annabelle has put her in an asylum for the magically and mentally deranged. And the fun begins. Bloody Wicked - I loved this book. It has drama, action, witches, vampires, werewolves, Rougarou's, ghosts, witchy vampires, archangels, demons, and plenty of weirdness for anyone the Paranormal! I found myself rooting Mercy on even though she didn't mind drinking the blood of humans. Mercy was turned into a vampire by Nico. This act was orchestrated by an ancient witch who read a prophecy in a grimoire and thinks Mercy is the one it speaks of. Oh, and Cain is the original werewolf. Bloody Devils - Mercy Brown is at it again in Bloody Devils only now she has her half-sister Julie added to the mix. The trio of women call themselves the Weird Sisters and get a good laugh out of it. Mercy is suckered into helping Cain try to get the location of demons out of Asmodean who, in turn, is trying to get control of the infernal power that's in Mercy. Asmodean sends Mercy after Legion which turns out to be a trap. This book is a non-stop page-turner with shenanigans from cover to cover including some run-ins with The Order. Bloody Gods - I have no idea what is next for Mercy Brown but I'm sure it will be just as delectable as Bloody Gods! The Weird Sisters along with Sarah, a relative Mercy did not know about, and another vampire named Fred, finally send Mol and Lucifer back to Hell. And the four women will be the new Vampire Council members. I very highly recommend reading this box set!
This book follows the story of Annabelle and Isabelle as they start their training at the voodoo academy in Vilokan. There’s a lot happening and we meet a lot of new characters as well as some known ones. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next one but have decided to go back and read Druidess first so I can catch up on the back story!
Grim Tidings.
Yet another great book by Theo! I love the story as it follows Annabelle, Isabelle, Ashley and their friends. I really felt like I was a part of the story and l identified with the characters. I wish I could go and join them at the Voodoo academy! I love Theo's world building and his attention to detail and I was totally looked on this book. I was so engrossed that when I finished I couldn't wait and started on the next book straight away. I can't wait to read the rest of the series!
Death Rites.
Another triumph! I was so consumed by its action I really couldn't put it down and finished the book in just a few hours! It seems like everything is going wrong and they can't stop Kalfu, but Marie Laveau has a few surprises in store and things work out ok in the end. Again, I couldn't stop reading when I got to the end of the book, and had to carry straight on into the next book! I can't wait to see what happens next!!
Watery Graves.
As expected, I loved this book as much as the rest! There’s so much happening, it’s non-stop action from the outset that keeps you on your toes and in suspense, I love it! Everything seems like it’s going wrong and like Kalfu has the upper hand, so what happens now…..?
I couldn’t put it down and couldn’t wait for the next book, so I didn’t!
Voodoo Queen.
Wow! Yet another amazing series finale. There’s a new Queen in town, and she’s bringing it! Again this book is packed with action from the start with lots of twists. Can everyone team up together to beat Kalfu and set everything right again? You bet they can!!
I received a free copy of Voodoo Academy Complete Series audiobook and this is my honest review.
I have noticed books by Theophilus Monroe and thought they looked interesting but this was my first encounter with his writing. After reading about his history in theology I wasn't really sure what to expect in a story about voodoo, but I was definitely not disappointed. I am a Christian and I don't know much about Voodoo or Shamanism but I thought every culture represented was done so with respect. Except perhaps the chimeras.
I loved the entire series! It was great! Annabelle and Isabelle were an awesome pair, even with their differences. All of the supporting characters were wonderful. Pauli was absolutely fabulous!! Loved him to pieces! Ogoun was great as a possible love interest, but he sure cut the timing close!
The entire series was narrated by Sydney Fry. She was a great fit for the character of Annabelle, but hearing all of the characters sound like a young girl was a little much. I would have liked some variation in voices. Also, there were several words mispronounced. That seems like an editing responsibility to me, but I have no clue how that works.
To Mr Monroe & Ms Fry, thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable series and I'm on a mission to listen to more of the Gates of Eden stories.
While I have read/listened to a lot of fantasy, this was my first time in a voodoo-themed universe so I was a bit unsure about it being a good choice of book for me. But it ended up being a great choice! I loved the universe and the worldbuilding was definitely amazing: we get to see so much of so many different places! (trying not to give spoilers here...). The characters had nice and believable back stories and proper development. The plot had soooo many twists and turns that I never expected! Overall, the story was amazing!
The narrator is also pretty good. Not sure if she naturally has a teenage-y voice or not, but she definitely blew life into the main character. Also brownie points for giving individual voices to the other characters AND for using different tones/inflections throughout the narration. Oh, and for proper French pronunciation!
My only complaint is that the audio wasn't perfect. I admit I am very picky and this is the main reason why I pass on many audiobooks. This book in particular had a tiny bit of white noise in the background. It would have been perfect if it didn't. I don't expect this to be a problem for most other people, but I have a very sensitive hearing and really good audio devices.
I had yet again the privilege to be an Arc for these series and Boy was I in for a ride! It was an mindboggling, aweinspired adventure which took me on an Rollercoaster of emotions and giggles! I am quite sure people in the bus gave me weird looks but these books just did it for me! How the author came up with Annebelle and made her and the otjer characters so real! The things she went through and everytime she and her friends or even me thought yes finally she is getting there , there was another turn in the road which left everyone including me, wondering about what ifs or should haves! This author is brilliant and it you guys have not read any books of him, I suggest you quickly go buy some! I am not going to spoil anything but wow a must Read for any Fantasy fan! Lifelike characters and the settings in these series made my mind wanna say I wanna go there now and Experience everything which happen in the books but mind you that could be very dangerous so I talked myself out of it! Buy his books, you will not regret it!

Grim Tidings (Gates of Eden: The Voodoo Legacy #2), my third read from author Theophilus Monroe. Well written & enjoyable read. Next up Death Rites (Gates of Eden: The Voodoo Legacy #3).
Death Rites (Gates of Eden: The Voodoo Legacy #3), my fourth read from author Theophilus Monroe .Sydney Fry's "narration again adds greatly to the enjoyment of the book. I look forward to the next book in this series. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Watery Graves: Gates of Eden: The Voodoo Legacy, Book 4.
Voodoo Queen: An Action Packed Urban Fantasy Series (Gates of Eden: The Voodoo Legacy Book 5), I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. Sydney Fry's narration again adds greatly to the enjoyment of the book. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018)
Ok that was a miserable joke, but I will let it stand since I must also stand by that headline.
This particular 5-book story arc has so many twists, turns and convolutions in it that is almost impossible to keep track of all of them. Every step of the way, even as the protagonists move forward, Monroe pulls another shocking surprise out of his (or maybe Kalfu’s) hat that sets our heroes back at least 3 steps.
If you can do the math, I’m sure you’ve figured out that this means they are losing ground, consistently, all the way through until the end. And yet somehow, Monroe manages to salvage our champions at the last minute, sparing them an ugly fate.
It’s amazing and awesome. Grab a copy, sit down and enjoy!
What a ride! Loved everything about this series. The author has infused new insights into what are essentially "taboo" subjects and made them so very believable We all have aspects of good and bad, but ultimately, the choice is ours. This is prevalent throughout. . Annebelle is a strong character who has an incredibly strong sense of right and uses it to help save humanity. A Catholic girl, as a student in a Voodoo Academy, she embraces all aspects, realizing that all creatures are needed to bring down a great evil. Witches, Vampires, Merpeople, all allied together. Friendship plays a huge role in these books and Annebelle and her friends are an absolute delight to read about. Highly recommended
This is an amazing series, I was so obsessed and could not put it down! I was so happy to be able to have the opportunity to read the whole collection together. The characters are amazing and their growth throughout was so well written and made them feel more real. Plot in the books was also very well written and keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time you are reading. This book has lots of suspense, which draws the reader in and is so detailed and well written that you will feel like you are there in the books.

Theophilus Monroe has created an amazing and complex fantasy world within the city of New Orleans. I was entertained by all five books included within this boxset. He populated this world with many incredible characters and various types of fantastical beasts. The plot has many surprising turns and was filled with a lot of action. I liked that the author incorporated some characters from his other series in these stories. There was some foul language utilized. Sydney Fry's narration was good and kept my attention. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.
NARRATED BY SYDNEY FRY Gates of Eden the Voodoo legacy books 1 – 5 The narrator has a monotone voice talks extremely slow on the normal setting It was hard to get into these books due to that. The story itself is interesting, the teen witches working with their familiars to solve the mystery’s that are surrounding the academy If you enjoy magic academy fantasy books and occult urban fantasy, especially books with a dark twist, then you will love Theophilus Monroe’s Voodoo Legacy. Fans of authors like Michael Anderle, Martha Carr, Linsey Hall, or Ramy Vance will love this compelling coming of age urban fantasy epic.
Received as an audio review copy from Story Origin, this is and honest review. Narrated by Sydney Fry, she was okay for the story but for me didn't make the story immersive as it should have been. Despite not on board with the narrator, the story didn't lose then snarky beauty of this urban fantasy/ mystery written by Theophilus Monroe. Annabelle is a wickedly brilliant character whose life gets thrown to hell once she's possessed by by the spirits of a girl dead for 200 years; mastering the "unique" gifts that have come from the girl means attending an academy with its eccentric students is just the beginning of a wild journey that will Annabelle in every e at possible. Highly recommended.
This collection includes all five books in the new series. Titles are: Voodoo Academy, Grim Tidings, Death Rites, Watery Graves, and Voodoo Queen.
This is a gripping collection of books that keeps the action moving forward. It offers a good blend of drama, emotional turmoil and action. The author brings strong characters to life for the reader and the desire to know more about them. Grab your copy and enjoy some really well-told stories that will keep your eyes glued to the pages so that you won’t miss a thing!
Having all the books together in this collection makes it an even more enjoyable for reading because I just hate waiting :p Seriously, I do. The series had a lot of twist and turns, plenty of magic and suspense. This is what you like to call a real page turner. None of the "insta-love" "save me" type of heroine but a badass, kick some butt type of heroine. Nice world and character building also. This wasn't one great book without a mediocre box set but a great box set.

I love Theophilus Monroe books! He has a wonderful way with words and everything I have read, I have really enjoyed. This series is no exception! The characters are well developed and complex. The story world is detailed and realistic and the words just flow off the page and pull you in! I definitely recommend any book from this author!

I’m 46 pages in and I can’t go any further. Why is a white man writing as a black girl who was a slave? And, this girl is now stuck inside a white girl who’s family was the slave owners but she has no problem with that? I got to the point where he was explaining from a POC pov what culture appropriation is ok. Dude, you’re white, sit down and let POC tell their stories, you have no business trying to do it.
This was a great series. Loved storylines. Lots of humor and action that got better over the series. The characters are quite colorful and the narrator does a good job bringing them to life. Each one has their own flavor by the narrator and makes listening enjoyable. The world building is done right by author and the narrator has done a good job expressing that also. I received a promo code for this audiobook and this is my honest review.
Theophilus Monroe can sure write a descriptive story. I like how you learn “history/back ground of the story, it helps you understand the story so much more. Annabelle/Isabella have been through a lot in their “young life”. By the end of Voodoo Queen, you will be hoping for the story to continue to find out what happens with all the characters in these 5 books. I have freely, honestly give this review.
I really hate to give a 1 star review to a narrator but there was hardly any inflection and a lot of mispronunciations. She read it so slow that my mind was off in never never land. Unfortunately, I do think this story has a lot of potential. The only reason I even finished this is because I am obsessive about not having partial listens on my audible for too long. I'm afraid I missed parts so I'll probably get the books on my kindle.
The series is filled with suspense, action, mystery and drama. It's great having the books as a set for a continuous read. The storyline is well written that will grab and hold your attention for the entirety, with a plethora of supernatural baddies.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a brilliant set to read. Wonderful well written plot and story lines that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading
